I hear what you are saying, but Barca want him and they are head and shoulders above us. We may, however, be able to offer him a bigger salary.
Barca are La Liga centric though. Depends on how much he values La Liga titles. They're not as good or even as big as we think they are in Europe anymore.
In money terms Barca don't offer big money for contract renewals for defenders when they do buy somebody. If he takes a cut here he's taking that cut for the entirety of his Barca career.
Offer the massive machine that we are world wide and promises of what we can become rather than what we have been and we aren't as far down the pecking order as we think.
We may not get him but this notion of missing out on big signings due to lack of Cl football will be blown apart if we do get him. Our dire situation will have put this to the perfect test and our biggest signings willhave been made with no Cl football on offer. Thats how big we are

Would obviously be a sensational signing...What a defender he is. I reckon he would be perfect for our dressing room as well. The type of guy who will slap Martial, Rashford, Lingard or even Pogba if they're doing shit. A born Leader.

I dont want to get my hopes up to much...(which i'm already doing deep inside:wenger:)

Doesn't Sport tend to make stuff up?
It's not just Sport.es, but also Cat Radio saying similar and they're a very good source for Barca. Oriol Domenech who is considered extremely reliable for Barca news has also reported the same.

Rewind 10-15 years and there's no way we don't sign this player! Today I'm just not convinced! The sort of signing that will get us back on track!
Really?

Ten years ago this summer we decided to sell the world’s best player to Real Madrid and replace him with Michael Owen and Gabriel Obertan. We weren’t signing the best young defenders in Europe either; merely pocketing the cash to front interest.

Of course, this lad would go a small way towards improving our defence.

This would be the equivalent of us signing Rio Ferdinand back when we signed him. He would be the foundation of our back line for the next decade at the minimum.

I'm still gonna dream we can pull this off.

He has the potential to reach Vidic and Ramos level heights of greatness. I'd offer him whatever he wants. Even though, that'd really feck up our wage structure.

My lord 70 mil for de ligt is just too much of a good deal.

Even if he uses us as a stepping stone I really wouldn't care for that price - we could even make a profit on the lad if we wanted to.

SAF didn't exactly need world class players to win though did he. We made world class didn't buy them ready made.

This was two days ago and Domenech was saying Barca were still optimistic. But since then we've had news that Barca have lost control of the transfer.

He bought players of De Ligt's profile, for big money, numerous times. Keane, Rio and Rooney being the obvious ones.

To be honest even though he wants to play a pivotal role somewhere I’m not sure there’s much else we could offer him, especially for next season. That, and he’s only 19. I’m sure he’s happy waiting at Barca for that role.

Sorry to be so negative, normally try not to be, but really can’t see this one happening.

That's the 2 day old comments, but where is Domenech saying Barcelona lost control of the transfer since?

Sport said Barcelona lost control this morning.

I think it was Sport.

I'm sure we are more financially committed to De Ligt, but I still think he goes to Barca at the end of the day. De Ligt is one who I just don't think we have enough of a lure to be able to bring him in. Would be a dream signing, but its nothing more than a dream.

I mentioned in the post they were two days old.

Sport are saying they've lost control and they do have some very well connected journalists.

Ah, ok.

Ultimately I think he will still end up at Barcelona. I know he's a terrific talent but I hate his agent so much, it's never good for stability to indulge in his clients anyway.

His agent is Barry Hulshoff. Raiola is just acting as the broker.

The problem is that you're always aiming for the most shiny toy available when there's loads of other players out there which would cost half of De Ligt's fee, who'd actually want to play for United and who would also instantly improve your starting XI, probably quite a lot at that.

The players who started Liverpool's transformation were the best player of a mid-table PL side, Hoffenheim's striker and a winger from AS Roma who had a good, not great season. You obviously need some luck as well but it's just not necessary to buy the biggest, greatest, bestest talent out there every summer. If I'm not mistaken, Chelsea opted out of the Shaw deal because of his insane wage demands and I don't think they've regretted it for a second ever since, even though he looked like a world beater at Soton aged 18.
Mostly agree, Shaw aside. The lad was absolutely flying before his horrific injury and showed some signs of getting back to business this year.

Out of the two Raiola is the one with the real influence it seems. His commission among other things is what's holding up the deal and he's very impressionable on players.

What shenanigans do they have to preform to afford him?
They already have by far the highest turnover to wage bill ratio in European football.

This is Woody’s time to shine... you know he’s just waiting to bust out the $$$.

That’s because Raiola was hired specifically for this one transfer.

Also on the Raiola ban: source in the netherlands said he will just use one of his assistents

I think if De Ligt does end up at United, then Raiola will have played his part in him coming to United.

The issue I have is Raiola has an existing relationship with him. Whether its him just acting as a contractor for this move is immaterial because when the time comes, in 2 or 3 seasons he will be in his ear again to pitch brokering another move to Spain.

I'd still take the player here, but any player with relations to that slime ball is not good for future balance.

One more positive report in our favour and we'll be in gif territory. I hope Olly is still around.

If this player comes to United it will only be because Raiola has convinced him / pushed him to come over to make more money. The agents are disinterested in the future of the players, the sporting project, the evolution of their career and their interest. How an agent can convince De Ligt to come here and not go to Barcelona? It's crazy!
I still think he'll go to Barcelona but Raiola wants to get a better offer and wages.
This would be the apotheosis of the art of these greedy agents who are far too important nowadays.

A 19 year old defender shouldn’t be that good at defending.

He’s like a legend in a FIFA game who’s regenerated into a youth player again but kept the same attributes.

He plays like he’s played the game for decades.

Whoever gets him - have a hell of a player on their hands.
plus he has this in him as well

Marcel Van Der Kraan of the Dutch daily De Telegraaf said on April 17th that De Ligt was surprised no English club had made a offer. @Ajaxsuarez did allude to this too.

Looks like we've knocked on the door..

Some posters too, sadly.
There’s no need to shoot the messenger. If you disagree with what I’m saying just explain why you disagree. Or you can also ignore the message. BTW, I didn’t come up with the policy of buying 2nd division players, it’s a ridiculous policy for a club like MUFC.

Yeah that was a shocking moment for me personally didn’t think Pogba would come. Thought he was too good, he has been your best player since he came to United and you guys haven’t won nowt noteworthy so when he leaves I’ll still like him so there’s that. But I don’t see De Ligt coming to United this time and if he did we will all know why .
I don't understand this. Liverpool pays shit loads of money in wages. Difference between ManUtd and Liverpool is 30 million. It's just how media reports the wage is a difference. Liverpool paid 44 million in agent fee and no club is anywhere near that, but somehow it's Klopp factor and no one takes about the huge agent fee they are paying.

It's same with any player. If they are signing, it's because they are paid shit loads of money.
