Yep. As Mijatovic put it, we're signing bench players

Hazard the only starter so far. That is worrying...
I think Militao has incredible potential. He could be a new Pepe for you, minus the temper.

Solid rebuilding from them. Guess they’ve been saving money (relatively) for a while now.

A centre midfield and a Mbappe (highly unlikely) will win them the CL again.

Looks like they know exactly what to do. Can’t help but feel envious of their management.

They don't mess about. The inflation will continue and in 5 years time we will be left wondering how they got these all these great players for only 300 mill.

Eeeh. So far we got mendy to rotate with Marcelo and Jovic to rotate with Benzema, an 18 year old wonderkid and a 3rd choice CB

Plus Hazard. Ultimately we're still largely banking on the same underperformers to stop underperforming...

I see they didn't take the United method of letting a shite season turn into 6 years of relative mediocrity whilst coupling it with piss poor acquisition with little to no long term thinking involved.

They did the same last summer as we are trying to do now! Buy young players that can potentially replace the marcelo's etc. They signed oRdiozola, vinicius junior and Brahim Diaz. They had also just won the Champions League. 2 disappointing managers later, they realised it was never enough! Hence the big spending this summer.
And we think signing young hungry players will take us places. Can't believe the Alexis Sanchez transfer, one signing changed our whole outlook on transfers! You cannot rely on youth alone! Not even the class of 92 would have been able to do that without marquee players already in the side!
Some on here want to sell Pogba! For the love of god.

Di Maria, Falcao, Zlatan (despite his goals, we finished 5th), Schweinsteiger. All big names, highly rated, have generally failed here. Zlatan was the most successful of them.

Isco=70?
Bale=50?
Borja Mayoral=10

I’m pleased you’ve said this because I had a similar feeling. Militao isn’t likely to get in ahead of Varane and Ramos. Mendy must be some sort of player if he’s to displace a left back as good as Marcelo. Jovic isn’t exactly what I’d call a superstar in the mould of an Aguero or Kane, albeit he may improve upon (a forever) underestimated Benzema.

Hazard is obviously a brilliant addition and helps plug the Ronaldo-sized hole in the team, but I can’t help but think that, for £300 million, there isn’t actually that much improvement to the first team.

That may change as these players develop, of course, and become a better investment over time. But I wouldn’t be too quick to use Madrid as the yardstick from which you denigrate United. Madrid have made mistakes, too. This isn’t a pop at you, by the way; it’s directed at those mouth-breathers that get all worked up over United and its transfer business.

Vinicius was signed years ago, and it wasn't in the plans for him to become a first team player last year, but he found a spot due to circumstances.

And Brahim was a January signing. As you see we literally sold Cristiano and signed no replacements, our net spend has been like Getafe level for a few years now, as the management felt that why change it if we're winning CL after CL.

But after the disaster that was this season, and with Zizou's reappointment, Perez is convinced that it's now or never. And fair play to him as he has almost wrapped it up this early, with some (generally) sensible signings.

Can they afford this 300 million outlay without selling anyone?
Their spending the last 3 seasons has been relatively modest considering their turnover. I think they can do this no problem even without selling. If they go for some big stars from now on, they will need to sell.

Please tell me you are joking. The window hasn't even started yet and we've already bought 3-4 players we needed ffs.

It's really no surprise some people call us spoiled fans.

Jovic will bench Benzema in a second. Basically, you have one of the best young strikers at the time when strikers options are very thin. Also, one of the most exciting players in the world in Hazard. Some potentially great players as well..

The midfield will be next with Eriksen being most likely.

You greedy bastards.

Bale and Llorente stood out the most.

As for the others, everyone knows you need to sell (even if not for the money but just for squad size) which always means you get less.
Llorente has caché in Spain, but yes, Bale is the problem if he doesn´t lower his salary a little.

Schweinsteiger and Falcao had pretty serious injuries before signing for us. They weren't the same players when we signed them! Zlatan was a great signing considering his age! Had the utd character in him! Alexis Sanchez had scored 30+ goals for Arsenal 12 months earlier, as a striker! Yet we signed as yet another left winger! 500k a week for Sanchez has seen us change transfer strategy. Either that or Ole the manager doesn't know how to handle big egos, and can only probably handle the Dan James's of this world!
Don't you think that our 6 years of obscurity has been down to neglecting the right side of our non functioning system? If we had a better balance we would be all the better for it!
Bailly, Lindelof, Shaw, Martial, Dalot were young when we signed them. Rashford is young, so what we are saying is, they are not hungry!

Madrid transfer strategy has not changed. The problem with United has been for me that I have not seen a clear transfer strategy.

These players that are bought is in line with RM transfer strategy.

RM has tried to find the next big name(buy players u23) and occationally buy the big names who has 1 or 2 years left on their contract. Believe it or not the RM cannot compete with the crazy amounts these days.

So all the players that are bought Vinicious, Rodrygo, Militao, Odriozola, Ceballos, Theo Hernandez, Brahim Diaz and now Mendy, Luka Jovic are all in line with our strategy. Hazard cost 100+addons because he had 1 year left. Otherwise Chelsea would ask at least 200 million.

Some of the young players will make it big and some will fail, but I am happy with the strategy.

And as far as whether the players will walk into the playing 11. I know we have had a poor season, but most of our players are generally world class. Ramos Varane - you cant find a better combination of central midfielders. Varane has had an extremely poor season. Mendy is there to compete with Marcelo. Carvajal/Odriozola is as good as they get. Carvajal was among the very best on his position, but this season he was extremly poor.

We will add another midfielder to Kroos, Modric and Casemiro to juice up the midfield. Pogba will be great addition.

Upfront we added Jovic, Hazard and Rodrygo an 18 years old wonderkid. Their President said recently Rodrygo is the best Santos player after Robinho and Neymar. Those players added to Vinicius who was our best offensive player last season. At only 18! Yes he is a shit at finishing, but if he improve that he will turn out to be among the best. Benzema had a good season personally. Asensio also had a poor season, but will get 1 more chance to show he can play at RM. Isco is on the brink. Brilliant player, but was our worst player last season along with Marcelo. Might be sold.

James, Bale, Vasquez, Kovacic and Mariano must be sold. Does not have a future with the new arrivals.

While that theory is true on paper, we did manage to sell Di Maria, Ozil and Morata for good money, although everyone knew we were going to it anyway.

As long as the club is patient, the desperate clubs will come.

Have you seen Marcelo last season? Possible that he gets his shit together again, but if not he won't be hard to displace.

At the moment our team for next season(excluding the players who appear to be on the out) is courtois, dani/odriozola, varane/militao, ramos/nacho, marcelo/mendy, case/valverde, modric/kroos, isco, hazard/rodrygo/brahim, benzema/jovic, vini/asensio

Other than Hazard, every other player was signed to cover a hole in the squad rather than improve the starting XI. We're banking on a number of young players having a big impact and the old underperformers of the last two seasons to get back to their top level...

Getting Pogba and/or Mbappé would obviously paint it in a different light, but we haven't. Yet.

6th actually and it wasn’t even close. We finished 6 points behind Arse in 5th. You’re thinking of the season before.

Still not sure why so many regard that as successful. While Kane got 29 in the league, Zlatan got 17. And that’s with prime Pogba feeding him.

Your summer would be very good if Barcelona weren't buying De Jong, De Ligt and Griezmann. Spending nearly half a billion euros on new players in one window only to see your main rivals buy the better players is hardly ideal.

It looks like Jovic will share minutes with Benzema, Mendy will share minutes with Marcelo, Militão will share minutes with Varane, Rodrygo will probably play very few minutes... Hazard's the only one that will be an undisputed starter from the get go. You're betting on a few players to pass expectations if the plan is to win the league next season. Madrid should go for another star, Pogba instead of Eriksen would make sense.

Oh yeah, you're right.

I don't regard Zlatan as a complete success, but he got 28 goals in total I think, that's not exactly bad.

We would definitely be better, but I don't think it'd have been a magic fix. Our biggest problems have been mentality and attitude I think.

Bizarre comment. First season in a new country, mid-30s, adapting to completely new culture and team-mates, and he did what he did? Ridiculous achievement, I don't see anyone else at Man Utd taking advantage of *prime Pogba* with similar numbers.

Ibrahimovic was a proper Man Utd player. The fact he was able to be one in his mid 30s only shows how sad it is not to have had him years earlier.

That's debatable, we won't find it out until a couple of years later as some of these acquisitions are pretty young. Like in 4 years time Militao might prove to be better than de Light, or Jovic do more good than Griezmann. Or they might have been sold.

I think Griezmann won't be a very good fit for Barca as he mostly occupies the same position as Messi. A wide player who is actually available -unlike Dembele- would've served them better.

Think he's correct for most.

Can see Isco fetching 70m, James could even go more than 40m, Kovacic looks ok to me at 40m. Ceballos and Lucas can fetch around 60-70m for both..

You are right for Llorente and Bale, but still they can find some idiot to pay 50m EUR for Bale if he lowers his wage demands.

They can also offload Mariano at around 25-30m. They have options to sell.

Decent... You have to give them credit, they had a shite season, they had an aging squad, they lost a legend last summer, and they go out and spend what's needed to have those players at their squad. It might not all hit, it'll take a bit of transition, but they're going for the top younger players who are ready now to go in and rebuild them instantly. And Hazard who is the player they needed to sign for years.

They have done a great job. With Hazard, Jovic and Rodrygo, their front line has some life brought into them. Hazard is world class and the other 2 are super talented.

Militao and Mendy are also giving depth that was missing in defense. Reguillon and Nacho/Vallejo are not up to the task. Their biggest issue was if someone injures himself at CB or LB, they were fecked. Militao and Mendy are great prospects at their respective positions, excellent business.

They need another top midfielder IMO, Pogba or Eriksen, and their summer will be done.

On paper, these transfer may not look super impressive, because outside of Hazard and Pogba/Eriksen, no star signings. But thats because you cant buy 5 star players in 2019 anymore. So their approach was also to buy some talents that can step up and performed great last season. Real need players to immediately jump into the first eleven, but also players to push the established ones and/or take over from them. And they have done that.
