The Glazers have spent £0 since taking over yet have saddled us with debts and taking out millions for themselves.

Don't let them kid you they have invested, the money United have spent is money the club has generated itself.

They are a disease.
I don’t know enough about the Glazers or our in depth finances, nor do I prefer them as owners, but the point you’re making - isn’t it kind of the point of any sporting institution or business - to spend their own generated income?

Hence FFP? I mean the model you’re criticizing is probably the most common one out there in the world? Outside of sugar daddy clubs, maybe fan run ones like Bayern (not sure if anyone gets paid a dividend there).

At the end of the day, I guess I don’t know enough about the club to really form a strong opinion (i.e what is the dividend yield now versus the yield before the Glazer takeover), and obviously outside of media narratives likes we have the second highest wage bill in Europe and the second largest transfer spend in England over the last 5 years (or however long it was). My limited info says we have spent, but we have spent poorly.

Sorry, not having a go. Was just wondering what the options are - outside of the Glazers and the only people who could afford us would have to be a sugar daddy. At the prices being floated, any investor seeking a return would probably need to tighten the purse strings even more. (I guess if they were mildly competent, it could actually mean us spending efficiently). Oh well.

I think the point they're making is not just that the Glazers don't spend any of their own money. It's that they actively stop the club spending ITS OWN money. I can't think of any other owner in the league that has taken this approach outside of maybe Blackpool's former owner and maybe the bandits that destroyed Coventry City. For this to happen to a team like Manchester United is unprecedented. Since taking over, the Glazers have taken 1 billion pounds out of the club. Meanwhile City's owners have invested 1.8 billion. That almost 3 billion pounds is the difference between the two clubs now.

True. But nothing will get rid of them until somebody comes up with an awful lot of readies. Not the slightest bit of interest from anybody so far. We are stuck.

Yeah bud, like I said, I actually have way too little information on the topic to have an opinion. I’m in finance, so I understand the numbers pretty well but what I am getting at more (I guess) is “what other options are out there for us”? Are we talking completely about a sugar daddy buying us out?

I guess in an ideal world, you’d not want any interest and loan repayments saddling your club (as this could be money going towards players/transfers). But say we’re the second highest spenders in both wages and transfer fees....how much more spending do we want or need before that is drastic improvement on the field? My ignorant view seems to point me in the direction of “structural problems” over money. And for sure, the Glazers are ultimately responsible for appointing Woodward and co. but i tend to feel like we have spent (sure we could have spent a bit more), but we have also spent poorly.

But anyway, I’m not even trying to come across like I’m defending them .

Pretty much to the bold point. Only other option is to tender the shares at current market value, plus a premium, which I guess the market wouldn’t go for as the shares are priced where they are for a reason.

Yeah I think we’re well past the point of other investors will buy us out. It will have to be a sugar daddy or well probably be stuck in the same loop of dividend and interest repayments.

Unless we have fans that can buy us.

Of course they will. But trending on twitter will last a day or two. They’ve still got lots of positive PR too. Shares jumped on Ole’s appointment, season tickets sold in record time, new buys on the transfer market etc. Besides, even the sponsors will know, this is a futile protest.

They are definitely not going to make a knee jerk reaction. Anybody who thinks this sort of campaign, or previous ones, will lead to the Glazers quitting are sadly misguided - for the simple reason that they can’t, unless somebody comes up with the dosh.
it reminds me of the lakers fans protesting when they botched the head coach hiring. a bunch of crybaby kids came all over to staples to whine and moan to for the owners to sell, fire the front office, and which coach to hire. the lakers responded with a new hc, lucked out on the lottery with a high draft pick and traded for anthony davis. All the fans have shut up now.

nothing is going to happen. the glazers are probably crying in their summer mansion in some remote island wiping their tears away in hundreds and drinking well aged single malt scotch as they read nasty comments from @spoofexreddititkgoat2003.

Why would they care what a few hundred people protest. The club is and will be financially strong going forward. They can draw sufficient funds to cover their personal financial needs. The clubs valuation means they will make billions if and when they ever decide to sell.

Unless there is a massive family crisis or he accidentally runs over the Queen they are going nowhere

Unless you want the Saudis or equivalent to buy United, you are not going to find an owner who does not want to take money out of the club. Most people don’t buy an asset for 10 figures without needing/expecting a return. The issue in 2019 (now the brutal wealth extraction period of the buy out is long past) is lack of strategy and waste of money. For some reason the Glazers seem content to keep Woodward in place despite the continuing underachievement on the pitch. The reason must be (I guess) that the sponsorship money is still rolling in on the basis of past glories and the owners are looking short-term because they want to sell.

They could just save face, let Ed in his position but he's not allowed to interfere with contracts or transfer dealings. Get in a DOF, then proceed with a future plan on where to go.

Really depends on how long people go at it. If we have a bad season, I don’t see it stopping. And if that momentum continues, it could evolve into something more drastic. I’m not counting on it though.

I find it strange that some want to focus more on Woodward. Don't get me wrong, I think he's completely and utterly incompetent. But he's working on their behalf. I don't think they give him a carte blanche to do whatever he thinks is necessary. Everything that is wrong with the club is because of the Glazers. Focusing the fan hatred in that direction is the only sensible thing. I hope this escalates furiously.

It’s definitely wrong to say it is only because of the Glazers. I highly doubt the Glazers are “active” owners - meaning I’m certain that they delegate a significant portion of responsibility and decision making to Woodward.

The Glazers are at fault for not, at this stage, becoming more involved and fixing the fact that Woodward, whilst successful as a business CEO, is useless as someone in charge of football. The Glazers should be forcing a structural change, and executing good governance to challenge the results of the people they appointment in senior positions. I’m not sure that’s happening.

Woodward, however, is responsible for pretty much all of farce that goes on with transfers and the like.

Ultimately in short, Glazers can be blamed for not governing a strategy and implementing an appropriate operational structure (or at least challenging the CEO to do so). Woodward should be blamed for the decisions within the role he’s been set by the Glazers.

Nah. The Glazers are guilty of serious under-investment since they came in. Then when the miracle worker left they've been responsible for one bad decision after another (including terrible mismanagement of transfer recruitment, contract negotiations and transfer spending), whilst not preparing for SAF's eventually departure. Meanwhile, our rivals were building sensibly. Like I said, Woodward is grossly incompetent, but that's been obvious for many years now. So, ultimately, that's on the Glazers. As is everything else.

The rot will not stop with one Glazer stooge replacing another. They have shown no desire to run United as a football club.

Nor any interest in our future, evident in their lack of investment in the stadium

Typical responses from some of our fanbase.

Can never pull together, whereas when Liverpool had shite owners in Hicks and Gillette there was a united front to oust them and along came Henry who has been great for them, not just in terms of investment but in terms of the infrastructure and who he has hired to run the club and oversee transfers etc.

Manchester United, in name only it seems.

Things won't change until we get the owners and Ed out.
Our fanbase are more concerned with calling themselves Top Red and shooting down any protesting ideas. No wonder the club is in this dire state, yet owners can just casually ignore the fans, because we are all trapped in our own bubble.

It’s one thing saying the Glazers are ultimately responsible (absolutely agree 100%) and saying the Glazers directly made the poor decisions in the areas you’ve listed (incorrect).

Like I said, Glazers are responsible for lack of investment, lack of structure, lack of strategy, lack of planning. But absolving Woodward (or, if not absolving, at least assuming a quality replacement CEO wouldn’t address a number of our problems) of things like recruitment, contracts, etc. is just false.

Let’s not kid ourselves into thinking it’s all the Glazers. You can have more than one rotten egg at a club.

I know it's a bit selfish, but I would love it so much if the local fans start putting pressure on the Glazers on a regular basis during the new season.

They must either:
  • restructure the whole club, provide short-term and long-term plans for the development of each vital aspect of Manchester United, ensure that adequate investments will be made into our already aging facilities and get rid of the constant underperformers both inside and outside the football pitch;
  • or sell the club.
It's evident from our consistent collapse in the years after the retirement of Sir Alex that these people either have no idea what the feck they are doing or they don't have the motivation to actively seek solutions to the problem, and have left it all to Woodward and all his cronies that are mostly clueless about football.

We can do all the worldwide internet social media protests and demonstrations we want, but the most effective way would be to show it in Manchester and at Old Trafford. Have a few televised games where more than half the stadium is empty, everyone around the club will be up in arms, from sponsors, directors to owners.

Not to mention that the Premier League will stop broadcasting our games if something like this happens, further hitting the Glazers where it hurts them the most, whilst also showing just what the United fans think of them.

When someone you are directly responsible for shows their ineptitude on an annual basis, creating more and more problems, you ultimately have to look at yourself. If they had fired Woodward in '14 or ´15 or '16 or '17, you could say they finally got the message. We're in 2019 and this fool is still fronting things on their behalf. The whole football world knows we are run by mugs. Ultimately, it is on them. And no, that does not excuse Woodward one iota.

Hey guys. Please sign this petition to get the Glazers out http://chng.it/WKYTSdXFGd It has all the ManUTD sponsors tagged. The Glazersout hashtag on Twitter was great but unfortunately, like most twitter trends it gets replaced by another trending subject.

There was a petition to remake last season of Game Of Thrones which got about 1.6 mil signatures. Manchester United has over 300 mil followers globally. We can easily get to a million signatures. If we have million plus signatures the sponsors, media and Glazers would have to take notice.

The only way this works if we all sign and then share. Please retweet on twitter. If someone has an account on Reddit, please share it there. And also share on all your social media and or any other forums you are on. Maybe this doesn't catch fire but it's worth a shot. It takes less than a minute to sign the petition and less than a minute to retweet or share on social media. Thanks
Well done. Keep it up. Ignore the RedCafe Trolls.

Excellent point. The TV companies are a huge part of the jigsaw here. Used to be United were the big pull. Its like boxing; there is gravity around a big name, bums on seats. So that should be a big part of the opposition to them

I think this is so positive. Great to see #GlazersOut on the Caf, at long, long last. It might just be an expression of fan sentiment and frustration. And - as we see every time in the matchday thread - there are a lot of smart people here (No, seriously, I do think there are clever people, just not so much in the matchday thread). Hope is important for Manchester United supporters. Ideas will come, and one or two of them just might start something.

Absolutely. JFC it only took 10 seasons for the Caf to get as angry as I've been since 2009 and that Ronaldo window. This was the start. This was the time when the Ronaldo money went to pay off the debt. If we had just spent the money then we would have had a far better team. No we need to fight back. I don't care if we have to miss games. Have to turn out back on our favourite players. Have to demonstrate outside old Trafford and around the world every game this season. We need to get the owners out. Let's come together and reclaim the club.

Woodward is a Glazer man and makes them shit loads of money. While the Glazer’s are here he’s going nowhere.

In fact, I’d argue that Woodward should be kept around for the commercial side of things either way. Just get him the feck away from footballing matters.

I don't like the way people look down and patronise those who are trying to make a difference. Fair enough if you're cynical and you don't think it stands a chance, but there's no need to act like you're better than those who want to give it a go.

I have to say, spamming the likes of AON and Chevrolet on Twitter with #GlazersOut tweets is a genuinely effective move. Proper good idea that.
