...... he’s not exactly captain material.Maguire
Wow against Perth !! That’s it then he’s our natural leader ha ha ha ha !Pogba Looked and played like a captain today
It does not matter who it is against. He looked the part todayWow against Perth !! That’s it then he’s our natural leader ha ha ha ha !
Yeah agree mate, Pogba captain incoming hahaI'd probably go for De Gea too! He's at an age now where the captaincy hopefully could be the push to develop himself a bit more in terms of organizing and leading the backline.
Think you need to read my original post and the come back to me, for reference:As far as I see it, Lindelof has had a good 7/8 months, nothing spectacular, just solid. That’s great to see, in that he’s improving - but I would want more than that from a Captain. I don’t particularly see any leadership traits - which are clearly absent from the majority of our players! But to make him captain above our best player 5 out of 7 seasons or someone who is our longest serving player we need something more from him than: he is not as bad as Jones, Rojo or Bailly!
I wouldn't hope much.Ole said:CAPTAINCY TO BE CONFIRMED
“It hasn't [been confirmed yet]. We've got quite a few possibilities there and when the season starts we'll announce. We'll have a good assessment, see how pre-season goes and there we go. But as you saw, Ashley Young will wear it [for the time being] when he's playing.”

I think it's more or less confirmed Young will be club captain, only thing that should be decided is, who will be on field captain as Young will be a back up.Slim chance there will be new captain (not Young).
I wouldn't hope much.
Lindelof has not been consistant for 12-18 months. Am pleased for him, and it’s good progress, but to suggest that’s captain material is jumping the gun.Think you need to read my original post and the come back to me, for reference:
DE GEA would be first choice but if he does not sign a new deal and is looking for a move next summer then Lindelof would be the next best available choice. Also, 7/8 good months? Would personally say 12/18 months, by far and away our best defender and IMO was by far our most consistent performer last year.
You think he hasn't, I think he has, personally think since January 2018 he has been very consistent, you disagree, happy days.Lindelof has not been consistant for 12-18 months. Am pleased for him, and it’s good progress, but to suggest that’s captain material is jumping the gun.
Really? What makes you say that? Nice people tend to be respectful of others but who knows.I get the feeling Mata, although one of my fave players over the years, is more of a sycophant than a driven leader. This was a reply to "jmack1234", sorry if it looks out of place.
It’s a sad state of affairs - I think we can all agree on that! You think he hasn't, I think he has, personally think since January 2018 he has been very consistent, you disagree, happy days.
Bar my first choice De Gea, who are the candidates:
Pogba - Christ No
Matic - No
Young - No
Smalling - Haha behave
Jones - No
Bailly - No
Mata - No
Running out of candidates here, if De Gea goes or says he wants to run down his contract and leave next summer, who do you suggest giving it to?
Agree that it is a sorry state of affairs, personally think it is a bit harsh on Lindelof to say he has only had a good few months, I think that is selling him very short but against just my opinion mate. It’s a sad state of affairs - I think we can all agree on that!
The problem I have with Lindelof, along with my opinion that he’s done well for only just a few months, is what happens if/ when he hits a dip in form and/ or becomes mearly a squad player - which is far from an unlikely scenario. Especially with Maguire likely to come in and actually add some competition - a Smalling/ Maguire axis is a realistic option. We then have to take the captaincy off of him, we do t want to put a player in that position. What if a really good leader emerges over the next 12 months that is genuinely worthy to be captain - again do you take it off of Lindelof?
Personally (and this would be an unpopular decision!!!) id give it to Young.
Not because he’s our best player, or our most influential player - but because of the amount of change we are going through, it allows another 12 months for the right player to emerge. That may we’ll be someone like Maguire, it might even be Pogba if he decides to commit to Utd or DDG if he signs a new long term contract. It might even be Lindelof Who after another 12 months may emerge at a leader (which I don’t think he is at the moment). Taking it off of Young in 12 months time (whether he’s here in some capacity or not, will not be a big deal) and allows time for someone to step up.
