Ole: “Axel is the future of this club".

Perhaps we aren’t going to increase our offer for Maguire?

Thoughts on the Tuanzebe - Lindelof partnership?

Thought it was just me that noticed this. Much as I love Axel this would be a bad decision IMO not sure how he can handle the pressure in the more tougher games plus he's poor in the air as well

I don't think it's a sign that we aren't signing a CB. Tuanzebe is undoubtedly very talented, I think it's more a problem for the likes of Bailly, Rojo and maybe Jones. I'd play Tuanzebe over all of those, honestly.

Lindelöf-Maguire as starters and Smalling-Tuanzebe-Jones as backups sounds pretty good to me.

Or this is a negotiating ploy for Maguire. Any leverage you can create helps in negotiations.

Totally fine with it if we use that money to strengthen another position.. a top right winger or a midfielder and I'll be pretty happy .

Tuanzebe is the future but it doesn't necessarily mean we won't sign a CB for now

Worrying/vulnerable on crosses especially with De Gea in goal. They looked good other than that

I am not convinced that Lindelöf is Tuanzebe's future partner.

The question is if Maguire is so much better than Lindelöf or Tuanzebe when the latter has reached his potential that it justifies a world record offer?

We play two centre backs. I don’t know why people think Lindelof is such a guarantee for his place.

Most likely a negotiation tactic. I’m pretty sure that every man and his dog knows that we need a CB. We’re so close to getting a solid back 4. Can’t see us not signing a CB.

Shit at setpieces. That much was already evident in this match. We'd concede tons without an authoritative aerial presence.

Tuanzebe can be the future even if we sign Maguire. If anything, I see Axel + Maguire as our preferred pairing if we make the signing. They cover for each other's weaknesses far better than any other twosome.

Lindelof + Maguire could work, but lacks pace. Smalling + Maguire could also work, but hurts our ability to play out of the back like Ole wants.

I doubt that it was a hint, we'll probably still sign a CB. In any case, I think it's still too early to expect Axel to be a starter for us.

Ole aint a dumb dumb. We would like an upgrade however our defense isn't a total shambles. Leceister might like to make Mcguire the most expensive defender in history but I don't think the big clubs are willing to bite.

Because he’s our best defender these days? He’s 24 and he’ll definitely get better. Lindelof is here to stay.

Still need one, I'm not going to be fooled by pre-season. Axel def is the future but another season on loan at Villa in the prem will be good for his development.

Looks like the club don't want to overpay on an CB. Maybe they deem what's available to be not much better than Jones/Smalling/Lindelof/Bailly. Maguire is good, but is he really worth 80-90m no way.
Tuanzebe is really gifted technically, he is definitely one for the future.

If the choice is spunking £80m up the wall on Maguire, or giving Axel a chance, I'd take it. In an ideal world, we'd bring in Koulibally for Axel and Lindelof to learn from but Ed has well and truly fecked this summer up.

It wouldn't surprise me if Leicester has tried to include Axel in a deal for Maguire, it is certainly their type of signing. Obviously that wont ever happen with these comments.

We need a leader in defense and a natural team leader so Maguire and Tuanzebe are two different stories.

Both of them are greatly needed.

I think it's important to send a gentle reminder that we're still United, the biggest club in the world, and the place where players dream of playing and performing in front of a full house at the theatre. The days of us being rinsed by two bob clubs are over.

If Maguire wants to take his career to the next level, he'll probably need to join us in pushing the deal over the line. The chance to play for United will never come around again for him.

Axel is fine but we fecked ourself when we give Smalling-Jones that fat contract. Cant sell when literally no one wants them and cant buy because we still have them on book. We have the number but quality isnt there obviously.

For better or for worse I think our business is done for this Summer.
Starting to look that way. Leicester won't budge on Maguire, and you can't blame them. The asking price is mind-boggling and there must be cheaper options, even short-term ones. From what I'm reading, it's Maguire or nothing, but that would be a crazy strategy.

it is one game, Inter didnt do much to be honest.

They arent leaders or strong with headers. De Gea isnt helping them either. You know when the season starts and PL players throw everything in every cross and dead ball situatuon to score a goal, i can see trouble looming.

A new, more experienced CB with good heading and on the ball ability is a must for me, so Maguire fits the bill nicely. Every year in pre season, people think we dont need a new CB, but mid season, a new CB is first on the wishlist. It will be the same if we dont buy a new one now. We have 5 or 6 CBs, but only 3 of them are useable, the rest are simply not good enough or injured half the time.

Future could mean anything, though. Is ready now? I don't know. Would need to see a lot more of him. Against challenging attackers, too. Time will tell, but if we don't buy a centre back this summer, despite the lack in quality, we certainly have enough quantity wise.

My problem is if you put some of all our CB's attributes together, you make a really good one. Problem is we can't play all 6 of them at the same time. It's nothing we don't know and haven't seen in some of them for nearly 10 years that they cannot be trusted over the course of a season. It will unravel very quickly if we don't sign one.

Yeah, Garner and Gomes might be the future of this club too. But they won’t be first choice anytime soon.
