Ravel was seen as a talent who could "make it on the world stage". So was Pule. Neither did.
It pains me to say it, but being the best player in SA isn't really an achievement.

Julio Dely Valdez and Dario Silva, fantastic strike partnership for Malaga when they got promoted to La Liga in 1999.
Dely Valdez played for PSG between 95-97 which I didn't realise (they were pretty good in those days aswell and actually won a european trophy) and scored 23 goals in 64 games to them.
He first moved to Real Ovideo in 1997 aged 30. Over next 6 years he scored 80 goals for them and Malaga in just over 200 games.
Now Dario Silva had very interesting life.
Was at his peak v Malaga, scored 36 goals in 100 games. While not in class of Cavani or Suarez also played a very important role in getting Uruguay to 2002 WC, their first in 12 years. Scored in play off v Australia.
He also scored at Maracena in qualifiers and celebrated by making a phone call in telephone booth by side of the pitch.
Just as he was about to retire in 2006 he had a car crash, survived but lost a leg.

Pretty sure he was highest paid player in world football at one point! An enigma for sure and was at Inter for years, think he was Moratti's favourite players so would get contract extensions when he wasn't regular in team. Wonderous left foot.

Yep, also played for Barcelona and Lazio.
His first season at Barcelona under Robson he played well, but under Van Gaal he struggled and he almost lost his head with him. I mentioned him because everytime someone mentions Portugal during the 90’s beginning of 2000’s Figo and Rui Costa are always mentioned and he doesn’t get the credit he deserved. Was a true leader, but too aggressive and less technical than Ricardo Carvalho.
To be fair, Figo was a perennial Golden Ball candidate, and Rui Costa might have been one too if he hadn't spent the bulk of his prime years at Fiorentina. As good as Couto was, their level he was not IMO.
