Why can't we join the race? Gueye instead of Longstaff, and offer them Darmian at cut-price too.
Why instead? £28m is a good price for Gueye and if Longstaff is available for similar, get both. Sell whoever is surplus to requirements next season. At these prices we'd pretty much be getting our money back as long as we're not sticking them on ridiculous contracts.

Gueye and herrera for 28m. Great business puts us to absolute shame

Cliche but if we wanted him he costs £50m.
This is bollocks …. and smacks of a "victim"/woe is us/whining mentality.

He was sold for £28m. If United had offered £29m Everton would of course have taken it. Or do you think they'd give up £1m for no reason?

I hate to be the conspiracy nut but I just don't believe that Everton have sold Gueye to PSG for £28m.

They don't need the money and don't need to sell. There are back channel payments being made by the likes of PSG and City that would make your eyes water.

He is 30 in september - if we would sign him he would cost more than £28 million. Would Everton even sell to us ? And why would a player from Senegal choose us over PSG where he will win titles without breaking a sweat

Its definately whining, but its not bollocks. PL to PL transfers carry a premium, also everyone knows United are desperate so again extra premium

Herrera was demanding double his true salary value. If Scott McT started demanding £300,000 just because some team in Mongolia was offering him that, then you wish him well.
Idrissa Gueye is awesome but doesn't fir our age profile for new signings. Getting 10 good years out of Longstaff is better business than 2 good years out of Gueye.

Let's hope we get longstaff then

Maybe you miss understood me. I said if we had wanted him not if we bid. If we bid now Everton would obviously accept. But we clearly aren’t in for him which is why the price doesn’t match what I claimed. It’s not hard to understand. It’s been highlighted many a time one example being Longstaff.

I’d rather give a chance to McTominay and give Fred the benefit of the doubt rather than sign Gueye for 30 Million.

Fred will be like a new signing this season IMO

Not for no reason. Tue reason is they'd strengthen a domestic team and by doing so widening the gulf between them and the top teams. That's probably not something they want to do.

Hardly.

2 good players towards the end of their careers. I don't see either really making them better either.

Imagine the scenes here if we signed a player who will be 30 in September.

And gave them huge 4 year contracts. It’s not good business, especially when the players are a long way off being WC.

I'd much rather get Longstaff than Gueye, considering the way Ole is looking to rebuild the squad and considering they'll probably cost about the same.

PSG hire Gueye and gave him that contract mainly because he counts as player formed in France, which is very handy for UCL roster.

I agree that for us it would’ve been more like £50m. Still think we should’ve been in for him (Gueye). With Herrera and Gueye, PSG are building their squad smartly, if they actually managed to swap Neymar for Coutinho and Dembele, I’d say they look much stronger than last season, but that’s probably far-fetched.

Because he didn't sign a player we didn't want .

I swear our fan base needs to get a grip .
So as much as i love just having a go at Woodward, I actually do have to note with seriousness here that "player we didn't want " is disingenuous. It has been very apparent over the Woodward tenure that many signings are HIS list and preference rather than the managers. Likewise, many players crossed off the list because HE didn't fancy them.

If someone's dog shits on my floor I'm not going to kick the dog. I'm going to tell the owner to feck off. That's the point I'm at now - our managers are pets for little big man. So feck him. And feck anyone that thinks he deserves even an ounce more of patience. :)
