How much would people be happy to spend on Eriksen? I'll be honest I'd be more than happy to splurge the entire fee we get for Lukaku on him even if he does only have a year left on his contract.
As it's not my money I don't care one bit. However, despite him only having a year left on his contract, I don't think anyone could look badly on us for spending up to £80m - he's world class and from a direct rival.

He can do something that most of our midfield can't do. Turn defense in to attack with one pass instead of safe pass and sideways. Only Pogba can do that when he turns up.

People are actually concerned that one of the best players in the league at 27 years old is in his peak... God forbid we sign a top player in his peak.

The concerning part is that this isn't going to happen.

Well not anymore. Maguire is capable and McTominay has shown glimpses that he's capable of doing this on tour.

I read earlier in this thread that his pre-season performances have been of a player who wants out/thought he'd be gone already. What have you made of him?

Maybe in his head he thought he'd be gone from Spurs now and doesn't want to wait a year?

I still dont think this is on btw, just playing devils advocate :)
Oh we have heard hes sucking like a bitch cause Madrid didn't come calling.

He's played a lot of games. I'd still take him obviously, but I don't think his performance last season was as good as they have been. But he could be better this season. If you watched him, you'd know what I mean. I think Spurs fans would agree he wasn't always his best, but it could simply be a form issue.
I have watched him numerous times, he's a player I've wanted at the club since before he joined Spurs - I don't think he was at his absolute best last season but that's just the standards he set the year before. It doesn't mean he's on his way down, he just wasn't as good as the season before :houllier:

He was bloody outstanding at Old Trafford last season.

I would be surprised if it happened but I think it’d be a great signing. He’s a good player, at the right age in terms of immediate impact without needing to replace him in 2 years and he’d weaken a potential rival. Plus he loves hitting the first man from corners, so he’d fit right in.

The train I was talking of goes 6 years into a new contract. Kane and co signed new deals after the stadium was done, didn't they? I was under the impression that Eriksen is the odd one out amongst a lot of players committing to the club.
Oh I meant in football in general not just with us..... I hope anyway.

To be honest you couldn't find a worse example than Alexis, to prove that stars join us not for money :D
I never said that he didn't join for the money.

Money is the ultimate lure for a professional footballer, we all know that, and United can afford to meet their expectations more than most. Thus we still an attractive proposition for anyone.

That and we're one of the biggest, most supported footbll clubs in the world, with a history few clubs compare to or ever hope to replicate.

Bold prediction (or not depending on your view).

If (and that's a big if) we sign Eriksen, I'm going to wager that we sell Lukaku for more than what we pay for Eriksen.

Shock horror.

Id like to see how that would go.

Levy - "we want you to bid for Eriksen"

Woody - "Ok, £10m"

Levy - "we will only accept £80M"

Woody - "£8M"
Where have you pulled that from? We have shown we pay the most for players in this country. Thing is it will never be enough. We would offer 60-70m, but your guy Levy would demand 160.

I'd go the other way and say if we sign Eriksen we'll be even more desperate to sell Lukaku and take a loss on him just to balance the books somewhat

We are not singing him, no chance. Imagine wrapping this deal with 2 days left. And that too when the other club is Spurs.

Madrid bound on the cheap as soon as they understand that they can't afford Pogba. More chance of Dybala happening!

It's possible as I think we'd be selling Darmian as well to probably at least even it out.

Basically it'd be getting Lukaku & Darmian out of our squad to bring Eriksen in on a free (roughly) and probably be on less wages than those two combined as well.

Would be such a big win when you look at it that way.

Levy has been phoning Ed and trying to use reverse psychology.

"Bet you can't bid for Eriksen. You say you can do things in the transfer market that no one else can, but you can't even bid for Eriksen."
