It's better to keep the money saved for Longstaff and Jason Sacho next year than to risk it on expensive risks, like Bruno Fernandes, Milikovic-Savic etc
Why is everyone sure we will get Sancho and how the hell is Longstaff not a risk? I'm expecting wonders from this kid based on everyones high praise on here.

Hopefully but I reckon we need to get realistic and lower our demands. He IS worth that in this climate but we are probably not going to get 25m, especially now that we're only talking non-PL teams. If I recall correctly, the only teams in for him before were Turkish and they are not going to offer over £10m and that's probably generous to them.
It must be odd at Man Utd seeing some of these guys, when you're coming in to do your job and trying to get that intensity going, and then on the side, "Oh, there's Darmian doing a bit of painting decorating", "Oh, Rojo's got a new hair cut I see". Just weird they're still there.

This sudden wave of disappointment in the caf is just pessimism. Atleast look at the fact the club only bought players that were 100% improve our squad, I feel quite excited because barring Pogboom, the midfield position would be up for grabs. Seriously hoping Fred to come good finally having shown glimpses as an engine in midfield, or a slightly attacking option in Gomes.

If they come good and United hopefully wins Europa league/finishes in Top 4, I am sure the next summer will be different as we will again be an attractive proposition to play for.

Appreciate the philosophy from Solskjaer even though don't know if he strictly wanted the players mentioned in the past 2 days.

Keep the money saved for Longstaff next year when he will cost even more? And there is no guarantee that we will be able to get sancho, especially if we finish outside the top 4 or if bigger clubs come in for him like a Juventus, real Madrid, barca, man city, hell even liverpool unfortunately.

This is killing me as well.

The first one didn't want to join us this year why should he next year when there's every chance we won't make top 4 again.

And this Longstaff obsession by some on here is baffling as well. Guy had a serious injury and 9 PL games....

I think we might go after Chiesa next year. Would be perfect for us on the right wing.

would probably cost less than Sancho too I think.

Yup, no point in too high of a price, just sell him to a 1st bidder.

Surprised Everton aren’t more desperate for a centre half considering they let Jagielka go and Zouma left. Mina didn’t really deliver for them either, think not they could regret it if they don’t bite the bullet and pay up.

I can't believe we haven't lined up a replacement for Lukaku. If Rashford or Martial get injured do we even have enough attackers to play?

Because the narrative coming out, with his support, is that he's happy with the squad and convinced the youngsters are ready to step up and replace those that have left. We'll see if he follows through with this belief in youth, or whether we'll be seeing the usual suspects doing feck all, all season long.

110% yes. If, after the first 10 or so league games, we are seeing less of Mata, Jlingz, Youngy, Matic and co......and the likes of Gomes, Greenwood and Chong are getting healthy minutes on a fairly regular basis (doesnt have to be every game), I'll happily take my licks.

However. If we're still seeing Mata coming on for Lingard (rather than Mason or Gomes), after 10 games or so - will YOU and other (insert the name you lads hate) fans do the same?
Of course they won’t. All blame to be deflected away from Lil Ole and onto the board.

I disagree. You’re confusing their first team and their squad. There squad last season was relatively poor in depth, they resorted to playing their youth players quite regularly in midfield. Skipp, Winks etc. and they really benefited from the minutes they were given.

This year they’re doing good work to add depth in midfield just as I expect us to do next year.
But Winks and Skipp were the only really young players from their Academy they had to rely on. Apart from them, they used Lloris, Rose, Davies, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Foyth, Sanchez, Aurier, Trippier, Dier, Dembelé (until January), Wanyama, Sissoko, Erikssen, Moura, Son, Kane, Llorente. Those two players were well surrounded by more seniored players. And Winks was already into his 3rd season in the PL, having played more than 50 games, even being called up with England. He needed some time to develop but he's 23 and the same age as Alli or Sanchez.

The one really coming through the ranks was Skipp, but he only made two starts in the PL (Burnley at home and Leicester at home). The only other minutes he got were 3 min vs Southampton, 11 min vs Everton, 13 min vs Bournemouth, 14 min vs Cardiff, 1 min vs Chelsea, 16 min vs Huddersfield, 13 min vs Everton, for a total of... 71 minutes as a sub, mostly against mediocre teams apart from Everton.

Can we wait and see if we get top 4 instead of basing our future business outside of it?
Credible sources claim we were nailed on to sign Sancho if we got top 4 last year. We'll be amongst he favorites for him next year if we do get there.

We should hope Greenwood is the real deal, our strikers are Rashford/Martial/Sanchez/Greenwood

It's a head scratcher for sure!

If Sancho continues his trajectory he will have a choice of the best clubs in Europe and us. Tough decision that.

Longstaff, is it because he is English and Carrick likes him or something? I will certainly eat my own words if he turns out to be a top talent but I don't see it personally.

They will pay up. They have the money

Keane and Mina are the senior defenders. Holgate is around. Anyone else?

I said they used their young players in midfield specifically, I didn’t mention any other positions. Skipp was used sporadically but Winks was used quite a lot.

I would very much like to suggest that Ed Woodward begins negotiating with clubs for next summers underwhelming transfers at 17:01 today to ensure we do not find ourselves in this situation again. Seriously you would think he would learn.

SURELY if Axel isn't going out on loan, he must have reassurances of some game time meaning we must be confident of shifting Rojo in this window?

It is absolute MADNESS how many CBs we have got and even madder how incompetent most of them are.

Sure, I wasn't the one claiming we should wait for him when there's every chance he won't join us again. Basing our transfer business next year on an outstanding season this year is just as, if not even more stupid than basing it on an average to bad one.

We can sell Rojo abroad still if the Everton deal doesn't work out. We'd probably accept less from a team outside the PL as well.

I expect Darmian to go too.
