There have been reports all day of a loan with an option(obligation if spurs qualify for the CL) to buy

Not 3rd party ownership.
Translation problem? Probably means Betis have a 20% sell on clause?

So as I mentioned yesterday, both United and Chelsea will go in to this season with managers that have limited experience at this level, will depend heavily on youth, and will have large voids at the #9 position.

As we did with the Morata & Lukaku summer, we'll probably be battling for the same strikers next summer as well.

I would say you are in a worse situation than us. Small mercies.

Doubt it.. If the MD article said 20% then it could have been a translation error.
The article leads with 80%.

Doesnt seem like a translation issue.

How so? I'd say our squads are very comparable. We lost our best player, you've lost your best goal scorer. Your defense is probably a bit better than ours but our midfield options are far superior.

I think we'll finish pretty close to one another at the end of the season.

Lost Gueye.. proven premier league player. Replaced him with Jean-Philippe Gbamin (no clue) and Delph, who is average at best.
Gomes was already there.
Got Sidibe at RB. Backup for Coleman I suppose.
Replaced Lookman with Iwobi

Got in Moise Kean. a 19 year kid with potential.

Is that it?
The improvement overall to their team is much better than ours.

How one of the world's richest clubs is so poorly run is beyond me. Six transfer windows of duds and not one person from the non-football side of things gets fired. Unbelievable. You can only deflect the blame to the manager and the players for so long.

Don't you have performance targets as an exec at Man Utd? How do you keep your job while failing continuously?

I am not sure about that.

We finished 12 points ahead of them last season.
Lets see how this goes.

I'll have my money on us extending that... not that it says much.. we are well off where we want to be.. but we have addressed one of our biggest concerns .. Everton have moved sideways

How is Pulisic doing, people on here were creaming their pants over him a year or so back.

Whatever the sides picked I never have confidence v Chelsea. I'm going for a 2-2 draw.

OGS spoke about youth last season and didn’t even play them till it was pointless games to play for.
Gomes and Chong won't get a sniff and I doubt Greenwood will get as much game time as people are thinking. Mata, Lingard and Sanchez being the big obstacles and Ole will always go with experience, just like last season.

Because the narrative coming out, with his support, is that he's happy with the squad and convinced the youngsters are ready to step up and replace those that have left. We'll see if he follows through with this belief in youth, or whether we'll be seeing the usual suspects doing feck all, all season long.

110% yes. If, after the first 10 or so league games, we are seeing less of Mata, Jlingz, Youngy, Matic and co......and the likes of Gomes, Greenwood and Chong are getting healthy minutes on a fairly regular basis (doesnt have to be every game), I'll happily take my licks.

However. If we're still seeing Mata coming on for Lingard (rather than Mason or Gomes), after 10 games or so - will YOU and other (insert the name you lads hate) fans do the same?
Saying you’re happy with the squad, even if you aren’t, is a totally standard and sensible thing to say for a manager. It’s also standard to big up our current players and youth players going into the season.

From that you’ve invented some sort of social contract between the fans and Ole that he has to play our youth players by a certain date, or he’s somehow betrayed the fans. You’re also quite gleeful about the prospect of this happening, so you can score some imaginary points against rival fans on an internet forum.

Each to their own, I suppose.

People need to grow up. Always something to moan about instead of looking at the positives. Day the transfer window opens it is all 'Why haven't we signed anyone yet? This club is a joke', a week in to the transfer window it is all 'Still not signed anyone, club is a joke and will leave it to last minute'. Then people like you moan we dont panic buy at the last minute too. Would hardly call announcing someone they have been linked with all summer, 20 minutes after deadline closes as getting a deal done competently.

Like it or not, we have had a successful window. The team will now be able to play with much more freedom in attack, which will undoubtedly bring out the best from the lads.
Yeah thanks for the essay and all but no I haven’t moaned all summer. No we haven’t had a successful window and no we won’t be able to play with freedom if we don’t have a midfield capable of keeping the ball unfortunately.

I didn’t want a panic buy, I wanted us to identify targets for key areas which needs improvement. Then identify back ups if those targets were not obtainable - and then go out and get them.

Don’t you dare throw accusations about my character based on what? A one line opinion about how I am jealous of another teams ability to sign players they need? Jesus Christ.

Ole, the team and the supporters have been let down majorly and not for the first time. You might be happy to accept years and years of not challenging and eventually fizzling out a la Liverpool but that’s not for me.

They may have announced him late, but hey they got their man. We are going into the season without a recognised goalscorer, because we sold him and didn’t replace. Half a midfield because we sold them and didn’t replace. A much better defence, which is good but we aren’t going to make top 4 with that.

Now, you’re clearly deluded if you think everything is hunky dory at our club, but people are allowed to be upset. Yes I see some positives such as great up and coming youth players, and our team is not awful. But it is not good enough for the stature of club that we are.

So clubs have until 7pm to conclude, meaning announcements can happen all night/tomorrow morning?

I totally agree. He would come up with the excuse these guys needs the minute to keep the match sharpness, it will be unfair on them or some shit.

I have to say I'm fecking gutted that we did not manage to sign a replacement for Lukaku. I sincerely hope the Lukaku sale does not go into the Glazers piggy bank and it's to be used in January's warchest.

Nevertheless, excited for the season to start. Game on!

Not sure. Kean and Iwobi (I really rate Iwobi) up front will be something else. Can they get the supply they need will be the key. We on the other hand have weakened considerably in midfield.

Greenwood will get chances but I think Gomes and Chong won’t get a look in ahead of Mata and even Sanchez when he returns.

If you assume Lingard, Rashford and Martial are our first choice front three, and assume three spots on the bench max to cover these positions, then you have James, Mata, Sanchez, Greenwood, Chong, Gomes and even Dalot all competing for these spots.

Also worried Axel won’t get much time ahead of Jones and Smalling.

Realistically Ole is going to have start leaving senior players off the bench, which I don’t thing he will.
