I see The Salty One is in the studio today. I was hoping we'd seen the last of him where United were concerned.
    No such luck.

At least we're guaranteed some drama with Jose, Carra and Neville in the same studio at the same time. A free fireworks show is not be be sniffed at.

I'm so pumped for the start of the season after watching this video. Come on United, let's show the rent boys what we are all about!

I went with that team minus Matic.

How Matic starts ahead of Fred, Periera, Gomes or even James Garner is a mystery to me.
Matic is better than Fred and Pereira. Gomes is a no.10 and Garner played for under 23s.
I've no problem with Garner jumping ahead of all 3 for the next game.

If we had strengthened midfield and attacking options to the same extent as defence, I'd be vaguely hopeful we could challenge for top four. As it is, not a hope in hell. Chelsea are in same sort of boat so either side could win big or lose heavily today. I just can't see where are goals are going to come from

I think Ole will be all about movement and endeavour. I think we will be involved in some high scoring contests this season. 2-2 I predicted for today

Feels like a massive game, which is ridiculous this early into the season.

Really need a positive result to lift the mood, or all the talk will be of a club plunged in to crisis etc etc

It would be incredibly odd if we play 4-2-3-1 reasonably successfully all pre season and then liked up 4-3-3 in our first competitive match.

Odd and a backward step, especially as we are the home team and Chelsea are dealing with a few injuries.

    At The Lowry

The following players were pictured at The Lowry Hotel:

Goalkeepers (3): De Gea, Romero, Grant
Defenders (9): Wan-Bissaka, Dalot, Lindelof, Maguire, Jones, Tuanzebe, Smalling, Young, Shaw
Midfielders (5): Pogba, Pereira, Lingard, Mata, Gomes
Forwards (5):James, Greenwood, Chong, Martial, Rashford

Fred, Matic and McTominay weren't pictured but are expected to be in the squad.

What does Matic offer that Fred or Periera could not provide?
A very good anchor for the opposition to play around..

In all seriousness, hearing the arguments that Matic somehow provides any sort of protection with or without the ball better than our other midfielders, reminds me of the many 'Lukaku as target man' arguments while he had a 5 m control radius and would get shoved off the ball like a boy playing against men. I really hope he's not in the starting 11, if anything his presence unbalances the whole team as the rest of the midfield and defence spend time worrying and covering for the spaces that Matic cannot physically cover.

That’s exactly what I selected in the prediction game yesterday.

I knew Ole would bottle it and not go 4-2-3-1.
That can easily be a 4231

Played that formation most of pre-season, no reason to do that if you don't plan to use it in the first match.

All 3 aren't good enough. Matic is the lesser of 3 evils. He's better defensively, better in possession and better for set pieces. We should get rid of Matic for someone much better. That isn't Fred or Pereira.

    Goosebumps.
One can only dream that somehow we could bridge the gap with fairytale movie endings.
Real life prefers to kick us when we down.
But here's to hoping for a Leicester season.

This is what I've gone for. Would have prefer matic out, but don't see that happening.
Lingard Greenwood and Mata will come on as subs I think.
