Can't wait for this game, absolutely buzzing for the season ahead. Don't care about the transfer window now, just excited to see some youth blooded in the first team this season.

Pre-season would have led some to that conclusion. As it went on and Martial and Rashford spent more time together on the pitch that is how they were deployed.
Aye, I think it’s pretty clear that Martial is going to be the preferred central attacker.

Can't wait to this line-up. Hopefully the manager and the coaches are brave and drop Matic to the bench.

Sticking to 0-0 but the closer we are getting to kick off, the more weird optimism is creeping in. Probably just excitement at the season officially starting.

If we win, I'd say it'll be 2-0. Rashford and someone unusual like McTominay or a substitute, maybe Pereira.

Hope they play with no fear and play attacking football, win or lose is secondary.

No more defensive and negative football like last year.

I loved the AIG years. We were one player away from dominating football for a decade. :( Feck Real Madrid.
Not a chance in a million years we ‘dominate’ a decade of football against that Barcelona team.

Watch this to get you in the mood before Chelsea...my personal highlight is the editing of 'A-holes' to be timed with some certain characters on video...

Awesome video. But then I saw Pogba and I just don’t see the United blood in him. I just feel he’s not United, out of place, just can’t help it. :(

If we can get a good start and an early goal I feel we'll win this 3-1 but if we start off slow and take our time getting to the game we'll draw.

The only change I could see is Pereira over Fred, one them will start just for the mobility they'll offer us.

He’s more United then many of us. He wants to win.

Lingard performed quite well in pre-season, to his credit, but I do you think he'd be more benefical to the team starting ahead of both James and Greenwood?

I'll be amazed if any of Tuanzebe, Gomes, Chong, or Greenwood start. I can see Greenwood coming off the bench, but I actually think the rest probably won't even be on the bench to come off it!

De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, McTominay, Pogba, Lingard, Martial and Rashford all to start. Barring any unknown injuries or a reluctance to throw Maguire straight in, these guys all start today IMO.

The final decision is dependent on which formation Ole is going to trust. If we go 4231, then I think Dan James starts on the right. If we play 433 or a 442 Diamond, it'll be Matic.

I'd put my money on Matic. Not a exactly what I want to see either, but at this moment I think it is significantly more likely than us seeing a plethora or young kids against Chelsea in the first game of the season. Mata, Smalling, Fred or Pereira would be selected before them even.

Wow - wonder how you will watch this season if you are already thankful that you are missing the first game!

I'm super excited by this game. Our first team looks good, and we have a new playing style. Looking forward to seeing how the team has changed over the preseason. Are we going to make average players look better than the sum of their parts (like the SAF years) or make the sum look worse than the parts (Jose years!).

If our squad performs at par, then we get into top 4. Don't see how you don't even want to watch a game to educate yourself on this, but you'll come on here to moan if the result is anything but a 3-0.
Why would I be mad it's not 3-0 when I predicted 0-0? and I don't give an opinion on a performance if I don't see the game, lastly I don't expect anything from this team or this season, so there's nothing to moan about in regards to any failures.

I have a weird feeling. I'm not feeling optimistic about the forthcoming season. Normally that would bother me, but it doesn't because I'm more excited to see the way we play.

If we get 6th by playing some good, fast, attacking football, then I honestly wouldn't mind. Get 6th via route one/lump it forward shite football, then yes, I'd be bothered. Guess it's just a pleasant expectation of seeing something to build on with this young team.
Honestly, I feel this is impossible, an inherent contradiction. If we finish 6th, the football we play won't feel like "good football", regardless of the manager's philosophy. Unless we are somehow outrageously unlucky/profligate in most of our games.

In the big games I do, he's great at leading the press and his overall game is nowhere as bad as it is made out to be. I expect he'll start all of the big games out on the right hand side for United and be moved into the centre behind Martial in the games we're expected to dominate with one of James or Greenwood out on the right.

You're dead right. This more or less happened us in 16-17 and Liverpool at times in 11-12 and we both considered them to be shite domestic seasons. Considering 6th place usually means 40 odd goals conceded and no more than 60-65 scored it never correlates with a great footballing team either

After all that PR stunt about Greenwood, I'd expect him to feature in this game. Starting or from the bench.

Transfer window and the disappointment has to be put aside now.

Really looking forward to this match and this season.
Optimistic for a top 4 spot, but if Arsenal's signings do well, It'll be a struggle and would be a disaster for us.

Midfield as weak as it is looks even worse if Matic and Fred are missing. Hard to pick a starting line up. I'd probably take the risk and go with
    McTom - Pogba
    Lingard - Gomes - Rashford
    Martial
As much as I'd love to throw Greenwoods name in there, it'd be a bold move to play two of them in one go.
With the centre as weak as it is right now, it does leave the door open for Gomes to be given a chance, but it's such a big game, so would Ole risk it.

We need a win here. Anything less and an already upset fanbase will just erupt I think.
We could actually see 5 at the back due to the injuries, but considering we haven't used it in pre season, is it worth it?

A front line of Lingard - Martial - Rashford could work if Martial gets involved with the pressing side of the game, which is essential to Ole's system being a success. Rashford works his socks off all game as does Lingard, as you say, but Martial has to step up his work rate if he wants to lead the line for United under Ole. You'd have to assume he's worked on that over the summer since he's been given the number 9 shirt. Also, we need to keep Mata away from that right-wing spot at all costs.

Greenwood and James could function as impact subs I guess, especially the latter with his lightenig pace.

I hope we can pull out a result and a good performance.... it feels like we need some positivity and confidence

we will definitely play 4 at the back - we have all Summer. I hope Matic doesn't play but I fear Solskjaer will give players an opportunity

    -------------------------DDG------------------------
    AWB-------Victor-------Harry--------Shaw
    ‐------‐-----------McTom---Pogba-------------
    Greenwood---------Lingard-------Rashford
    -----------------------Martial--------------------------

obviously fluid between Rashford/Martial. I think Greenwood will have earned the start. I can see him putting Lingard on Jorginho.

    1 nil United
I'd be happy with that, even though Gomes would be in my best XI in place of Lingard. Greenwood has earned a start for sure, he was our best right forward in preseason and the attack was more creative and unpredictable with him in it.

We're probably going to need his work-rate. Will give us more legs in midfield and also help with pressing Chelsea's back four, who aren't all that convincing on the ball.
