Constantly at the STD clinic.
i genuinely wonder about people who dont get this. im not even talking about raoul because i know lots of people who think the same way. they cant comprehend what student debt on this scale means. they cant comprehend that the united states is now basically a service economy and good jobs with a pension that you can keep for 30 years and then retire from dont exist anymore. they cant comprehend how lack of healthcare kills 50,000 people per year. and even when one of these things happens to one of their children, they only understand that on an isolated level. theres never a moment where they put it all together, its just "wow textbooks are expensive these days. someone should do something about that".

That's not true.

Prayer, Politics and Power: ‘The Family’ Reveals Our Insidious American Theocracy
Based on author Jeff Sharlet’s book of the same name, the Netflix docuseries highlights a secret (homoerotic) Christian cabal that you’ve never heard of

The Fellowship, also known as the Family, is a highly secretive group of evangelical Christian men who meet for Bible study and prayer meetings; it’s best known for serving as the organizer of the National Prayer Breakfast, an annual gathering of diplomats and world leaders in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1935 by a man named Abraham Veride, the Fellowship initially arose from Vereide trying to arrange a meeting of business owners to crush laborers’ attempts at organizing. Over the course of the past 75 years, it has evolved into what some have referred to as a secret theocracy, or an underground movement of prominent Christian men who exert their influence not just in the United States, but abroad as well.

Welcome to 1919....
The bit about pregnancy was literally a grievance of workers during the Russian Revolution - so push that back to 1917.
In the city women worked long hours for less pay than their men, concealing their pregnancies until the last moment. Years later an old worker remembering these conditions told how as soon as anyone was pregnant they were sacked on the spot:

The women workers used to hide it until their mouths foamed and the child was born at the bench. And after the confinement – back to the bench. What could be more terrible than for a mother not to be glad to have her child? And there used to be many women workers who cursed their children.
...
The Decree on Insurance in Case of Sickness, 22 December 1917, was the first of a series of protective measures. An insurance fund was set up without deductions from wages and workers’ wives were covered as well as women actually in industry. In January 1918 the Department for the Protection of Motherhood and Infancy was officially organized and functioned in close connection with the department of social welfare. It secured sixteen weeks’ free care for women before and after pregnancy. Expectant mothers did light work and could not be transferred or dismissed without the consent of a factory inspector. Night work was prohibited for both pregnant and nursing women.

If Trump was to get a second term, there’s no way he would see it through without the next big recession kicking in.

It will be the usual cycle though, Democrats get in and have to deal with the recession. Get denied funding for social causes in favour of fiscal responsibility and austerity. When the country finally recovers, Republicans will get back in and it’s TAX BREAK TIME! Corporations and mega rich will loot the country once again and the cycle starts again.

Recessions are the fundamental breaks in history where you get to re-order society. Capital is disorganised and people are angry and willing to go in various directions.
FDR seized his chance and his legacy lasted half a century. Obama flubbed his and his legislative legacy was over in 2 years.
It is critical for me that Bernie is in control during the next one -- because the other example is that Hitler seized his (similar) moment too.
