James already has 1, only 4 left to go.
When I was typing it, that was my exact thought.

Greenwood will score goals, I reckon around 8-10 goals this season if given enough mins.

Chong / Gomes, I'm unsure. I don't look at them and think, nope no way can they score 5 goals.

You won't win with these guys mate. They think that we can keep losing players and play kids instead with no repercussions whatsoever.

We might as well let DDG leave and play Henderson instead, Matic can leave as we've got Levitt while Pogba can be sold to make space for Garner. The funny thing is that our u23 is a bit shit while the u18s ended 4th last season (North only) and were humiliated 3-0 by Shitty in the youth league cup semi final.

But hey they are ready to take the world.
Imagine comparing a liability to De Ge, Pogba

Also using U23 team results to rate individual players. Pogba must be shit too considering we finished 6th.

Same shit every year...we don’t need quality signings because *insert latest wishful hope* is coming through. Then when they inevitably don’t turn out to be the reincarnation of Best, they just move on to the next person and repeat the process because ‘we believe in youth’ and there’s a chance the next one will be good, despite statistically it being miniscule.

Just reading the James Wilson thread should make people be cautious...some of the predictions in there are laughable and the inevitable ‘he can replace Hernandez’...now he’s been released. And there are countless more examples.

Why people talking about those lazy leeching pricks like they won PL last season, we were 6th with that bunch followed with at least 20 of some truly awful performances, some are even in games we won.

Yea like we would sink any lower if he sell Matic and introduce Garner for example, give me a break. Dunno why putting Pogba and DDG in a mix, when they arent group targeted for ultra under performing, good try thoo.

Worth noting that James Wilson had a better United career than Sanchez has.

He's an absolute write off. I'd rather watch Greenwood be given a chance and fail than have Sanchez here distorting all contract negotiations and transfer negotiations. His presence is an absolute cancer.

Considering against Chelsea we started with 5 academy products, I don't see how our faith in our youth is misplaced. Only problem we have had with *insert latest wishful hope* is that they have not actually been played, to make room for players like Sanchez.

Some players playing like shit for years and they got new contracts and new chance to prove themselves.
Alexis had bad games but also he had huge bad luck with injuries. Transfer i do understand but loan?? Ridiculous. Give him another chance and loan/sell him in january. Not now

So playing and winning one game is proof this is the right way to go? People are in for a bumpy ride this season...

Sanchez has been a disaster for us, no doubt but it’s more a general comment of youngsters replacing experienced pros - this is a guy that’s won numerous trophies across some of the best leagues in the world, so some top teams with individual honours too, and at one point for Arsenal was possibly the best player in the league...expecting youngsters to come in and replace these players easily (Fellaini, Lukaku and Herrera too) is a big stretch.

Exactly. 1 week and Daniel James has more memorable moments than Sanchez as ManUtd player (obviously exaggerating), but shows how useless Sanchez is for ManUtd.

All 4 of our goals vs Chelsea involved a youth player, same goes for pre season as well I believe.

Not every player will make the cut at a club like United but it doesn't mean we just give up and close the youth set up.

Genuinely, one of the worst comments I've read on any United forum on social media in years.

Manchester Uniteds history is proof its the right way to go.

Sanchez has already been replaced by Rashford and James on the left wing btw.

I don't think Sanchez has suddenly became shit nor that he s a world beater at the moment.
At times the most viable option is for club and player to part ways and accept it didn't work for him over here.
He might come good elsewhere but it s very difficult for him doing it here.
Seria A would be great for him I think.

I’m not saying shut down the youth system...but of course you know that. It’s the attitude that you don’t need seasoned, experienced pros because you can just insert any youth player and not experience any form of drop-off in quality/performance.

We have them!

We've a world cup winner ffs in Pogba! Premier league winners in De Gea and Matic.

Some of them might not be the players the once were but they still are experienced pros and have played at the top level and more importantly been successful.

The huge problem that you and a number of others don't seem to take into account is that the likes of Sanchez, Lukaku and to a lesser extent Fellaini don't just play badly themselves. They actively make the team as a whole play badly. They make it more difficult for our other players to actually perform. I might be a bit harsh there on Fellaini as over the years many of our best runs of form included him in the team, but there's no doubt that it's true about the other two. Sanchez in particular tends to destroy the form of our two most talented players (Pogba and Martial) as he constantly gets in the way and just drags everybody down.

As such, all we need from the youngsters (all of whom are down the pecking order so it's not like we're expecting them to be in the starting 11 every game) is to gel with the team better when they do get to play. If they also outperform the players who have left on the individual level, which is exceedingly easy to do for Sanchez, then even better.

Obviously Herrera is a different situation. A real shame he left.

I shit on their experience when they perform 2-4/10 week in week out, moving and turning like Titanic, not being able to track their players in the box but instead stand there or jogging while thinking "Once upon a time i was able to do properly my job"

He’s staying. Just like Rojo, too expensive to complete.
Scenes when Sanchez is here next year after the window has closed and Gomes has left on a free transfer to Juventus. :P

I think the recent problem in this thread is two groups of people arguing at cross purposes. I don't see anyone genuinely arguing against needing senior pros as 'we've got Greenwood/Garner/Laird etc.' and that in the specific case of Sanchez we'd be better just to cut our loses as soon as possible, even with a bad deal on paper that sees us paying wages for a player we can't use. Equally there is logic to the position that getting rid of a player and paying his wages outside of our transfer window is foolish, we may as well get Sanchez to fitness and give him a chance than literally paying to get nothing, and this stance does not mean someone massively rates Sanchez and is confident he'll deliver for us this season.

My personal view is more towards the first option of cutting Sanchez loose; I think he's finished and his presence at the club is more likely to be detrimental to the dressing room and the playing squad than any kind of positive and at this point anything that gets him closer to being off our books is a goer, but I can see the other side and don't think the arguments are actually that far apart. We all recognise we've got a shitty hand, we just differ on how best to play it from here.

Greenwood isn't replacing Lukaku.

Lukaku is being replaced by Martial and Rashford stepping into his role. Greenwood is then just moving up one place in the pecking order behind them.

A bit harsh. If all Sanchez wanted was money he'd just sit on the bench collecting his wage and show no interest in leaving. Instead he seems to want to leave even though he'll certainly have to lower his wages if it's made permanent.

If it's a full transfer, yes. If this happens and Inter do end up making it permanent he'll certainly have to drop his wage then. But for now it'll only be a loan so his current contract has to be honoured.
It's really not. He's taken enough cash and given nothing back and now people at the club who pay his wages (and the manager) are making life difficult for him so he's cashing in and moving on.

I would guarantee that if we were a club with lesser ambitions and the scrutiny wasn't as harsh he'd gladly stay and take more.

What happens if one of either Rashford or Martial gets injured? We’ll have Greenwood starting matches and no substitute. Im all in to ship out Alexis but the window is closed and it’s only a loan option while paying a huge part of his wages, doesn’t really sound that attractive to me.
I wouldn’t want to see Sánchez starting for us in that circumstance. Just my personal opinion! I think he’s shot.

To be honest there isnt much to discuss here, Sanchez clearly want to move himself. And in addition to all the questionmarks regarding his potential benefit to the team, if he doesnt want to stay either its a no-brainer.

Usually, you would be right, but those seasoned pros you covet so highly haven't contributed much to the club in recent years. This new policy of promoting/buying young, hungry players and integrating them into the first team is a step in the right direction in my opinion.

Based on his form for United over the last 18 months, I see nothing in Sanchez that Greenwood, Rashford, James, Lingard and even Chong could not also provide.

It is a bigger risk to give Sanchez minutes in front of unknown talents like Greenwood & Gomes. Hell, Chong might even prove to do better than Sanchez.
Your last sentence is probably true. You need to cut cost where it isn't being used for something good in order to continue to spend for upgrades. Sanchez & Lukaku out eases up a lot of our wage-budget.

I still think the only outright bad move by the club this summer has been to not sign a couple of midfielders, or at the very least a defensive midfielder
.
But you say this like it is a minor issue, it is a major issue, and could well be the difference between us getting top 4 and us not, I just don't get it, the money was apparently there, the wages were freed up, and the players were available.

Personally I doubt the club has a grand plan in place to free wages now for the future, we just don't operate like that, so I see no upside to Sanchez leaving now at all.

You really are a sensitive soul aren't you? What is it that angers you so much about someone's opinion on the internet?
Now you are imagining I'm riled up
You have issues:lol::lol:

Anyway I'm well aware of what Sanchez used to be and where he played and truth be told I want nothing more than that Sanchez at old Trafford. But fact remains he's been utter dog shit and provided us with nothing near his best. I don't doubt that Gomes wouldn't even come close to being a replacement of the Sanchez of old (something you think he still is), but replacing the dross that he was last season is a different matter.
It really isn't 'another matter'. Kicking out Alexis just to have another "useful body' in the squad ranks is not sensible. Not when we play a 3 striker system, will be left with just 3 on the books, yet 2 are regular starters. Whilst their back up is 18 and as of last season injury prone. In spite of how talented he is

If you continue to try and argue with me like you have some sort of god given right to be condescending, because you believe your point is the only point, then don't bother pal cause I'm not too fused.
Clearly its you riled up.
And for the record it is you who was acting condescending implying I don't read properly. If you can't take it don't dish it out....

I think it's crazy from the club if this deal happens. Send him out for loan, and pay his wages when we only have 3 forwards in the team, including a 17 year old kid. However crap he's been for us, I think that we need to keep him this season.

We have 6 forwards in total; Rashford, Martial, James, Lingard, Greenwood and Chong. We also have Mata, Periera and Gomes to cover them if need be.

I want Sanchez gone but feck this loan to buy stuff. If he's going it needs to be permanent. If the buyer can't afford him this window, he should only leave under the assuarance that their is an obligation to buy. We're not skint and taking the risk of loaning him with no obligation to buy him just isn't worth it, if he fecks up in Italy it's going to be even harder to offload him when he's inevitably sent back to us.

Sanchez in isolation, yeah, he’s been rubbish for us and a disaster. My points have been in general - we’ll have lost Herrera, Fellaini, Sanchez and Lukaku. I’m not saying they were all brilliant but continuing to throw kids in and expect improvement is not going to fix anything.

Also the growing attitude on here of ‘we had a couple of big signings that didn’t work, so let’s abandon trying to sign them’ I just can’t fathom. It’s like fans have been sold magic beans and are waiting for some miracle...apart from the Leicester anomaly, pretty much every league is won by teams that spend big money on really good players.

It seems so obvious to say but United will be fighting for 4th whilst the teams with stars and who’ve strengthened with quality are going to fight for the league and CL. If we want to play lots of youth players, are happy not to challenge because of tradition and an enforced ‘British Bilbao’ type situation but we have a pride of blooming youngsters etc, then fair enough but let’s not kid ourselves and claim it’s the beginning of a master stroke to get back to the top again. I feel a lot of the fans think it’s going to work and it’ll kick off in a few months when it falls apart.

Alexis is as useless as a condom with a hole in it getting rid of him is an equivalent of making a new signing by giving those minutes to the more deserving young lads

No, we have Rashford, Martial, Lingard, and Mata, the rest are totally unproven at this level, so we are basically one injury away from Mata (who no one wanted to stay) coming in, or trusting that these unproven players are seamlessly going to step up.

I fail to understand what upside a loan with an option to buy would have for us? Especially if we're going to subsidize a portion of his wages?

We're ridiculously light in attack as it is. Bunch of kids have been promoted and are expected to step up straight up at the higher level, the 'experienced' pros up top are Martial and Rashford who are basically kids themselves. I think it's ridiculously naive to think all of this will click without a hitch. Before anyone jumps at me, I'm not endorsing that Sanchez is essential to our squad. In an ideal world where the club was competently run, we would've sold both Lukaku plus Sanchez and signed a proven replacement with kids from the academy forming a queue. But, we didn't do that.

Unless it's a permanent obligation at Inters' end at the expiry of this loan, we shouldn't sell. He maybe over the hill like Rooney/Torres were but he's still an option in our current state of squad which is barebones in attack and midfield.

Is that not what this club has always been about? Since when did we start fearing putting trust in our young players?

I agree with you here, but there will be a tiresome counter that Sanchez is "done at this level".

Could it be that there are plans to sign new players in January. So from now till January we give the youngsters a chance and then we bring in reinforcements in January.

We've tended to balance experience with young talent. If Rashford and Martial were experienced, established strikers it wouldn't really be an issue to see them blended with Chong and Greenwood. But having just them and not an option for a fit Sanchez (for example) would mean our attack may be too raw to see us through consistently over the course of a season.
