Did I say he joined because of Kovac?
I'm merely pointing out the change of player types found in Bayern's midfield. Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Alonso and Thiago are/were completely different player types than the ones Bayern signed in recent seasons (Goretzka, Tolisso) /are rumoured to sign (Can). And it's no secret Kovac prefers the latter type. So yeah, Can would be a typical Kovac player.
A midfield of Coutinho, Thiago and Martinez for example is hardly a big problem for any manager who follows Kovac. Goretzka as an option is obviously also nice to have considering we signed him for free. With Sanches gone, what's the big problem? Sell Tolisso next summer, sign a replacement that fits into the ideas of the next manager and pay up for Coutinho, if he plays well. If anything Emre Can would be a typical (and probably useless) Hoeneß signing. Not sure if there's a typical Kovac signing, it's not like he has a real identity. He's simply a pragmatic coach who is way out of his depth.
The big question isn't about the type of player but if those hyped up, clearly talented midfielders finally start performing like some of the leaders of the past did. Thiago continues to be a player who is beautiful to watch, but ineffective in many key moments. Coutinho even in his peak Liverpool form is nowhere near the matchwinner Robben and Ribery were. He needs to step up similarly to how Robben did in 2009 (in terms of impact, not necessarily in terms of playing style) to convince the board to pay that kind of money for him.
What's really fascinating is how underrated that Bayern squad has become. While it's obviously nowhere near the quality of 2013, it's still the best squad in the league. Bayern easily destroyed the league in the second half of last season despite Kovac. And while Hoeneß embarrassed himself again and convinced the media (thanks to his idiotic comments, which raised the exceptations) that it was a shit transfer window for Bayern, the team actually got stronger over the summer. You don't even need an elite manager, just get rid of Kovac and wait until PSG wants to get rid of Tuchel.
