Should teams be rewarded for hitting the post?

If the ball hits the post and then goes into the net, it's a goal and a half

Still we would have lost to Palace anyway yesterday

Great idea- It should be more points for how fast the ball is travelling due to the increased difficulty.

Serious question......

Is there anything to said for a team to be rewarded a "half a goal for hitting the post"

Would make games more interesting and rewards players like Rashford for hitting a worldie off the post.

In most cases hitting a post is harder to do then scoring a goal. Anyone who has attempted the crossbar challenge will agree with this.

This is when you wonder if the world would be better without the Internet

I've reported your post.

May I remind you of the rules. I have said my idea is not solid - but as you can see the vast majority are up to exploring the idea.

Maybe if you gave the forum a reason why you are against the idea instead of looking like a DciK

Rules to remember: no adult images or videos; mind your language; criticise the post not the poster; remain respectful to other posters;

I agree with everything. Hitting the post in injury time should also add a multiplier effect due to increased dramatics. Perhaps even an automatic win.

What about if they used the kind of goals you get at fun fairs and summer fetes? The ones where they have holes, and the smaller hole you get the ball in the more points you get.

They could be used for the whole game or maybe just for during penalties and free kicks in the initial stages.

A bit unrelated, but I’d love to see teams have a designated kicker to take all set-pieces, a player who doesn’t play but only takes set-pieces. That’d be fun!

I think that you should also be awarded an extra goal for scoring a penalty with your weaker foot. And being deducted one for missing a pen. Make it a double edged sword.

Also, implement that hockey thing where a team takes off their goalkeeper temporarily to field and extra forward. And conversely sacrificing an outfield player for an extra keeper. Especially handy for those low crosses to the near post. Or keepers who have trouble picking sides when stopping a pen.

If you catch the golden snitch it’s 100 points to Gryffindor and you win the house cup.

No doubt this is inspired by Rashford's pk miss. Embarrassing thread.

I like it.

What happens if you hit your own post? Do the other team get rewarded? I guess they must.

Only when it's Man Utd and it's the Rashford penalty you just watched?

Maybe they add the crossbar challenge into the game somehow. After five penalties in a shootout, if it's tied after those, then go to the crossbar challenge. If you hit the underside of the bar and it goes into the net it counts as two, whereas if it just hits it normally and bounces off it's just one.
They should replace penalty shootouts with this altogether. What takes more skill, scoring a penalty or purposely hitting the bar?

Bar all day long!

May I include the idea of rewarding the distance it was kicked also? From outside the box adds 0.25, so hit the post from 16 yards is 0.75 goal.

I love watching that belter of 0.75 goal.

Or we can use equation, such as goal = distance:2(2+2).

If the score is still 0-0 at 70 minutes, then the value of substitutions is changed. Instead of subs being used to replace players, they are added to the game after every five minutes instead, up to a maximum of 14 players per side. If a goal is scored within this time-frame, then this sub rule ceases to come into effect and the game carries on as normal. If a goal is scored in the 81st minute, both sides will have 13 players and can just carry on that way until the game ends.

After 90 minutes, the goals should be extended to be twice the size that they currently are if the game is still 0-0.

Players who have scored a hat-trick will be forced to use their "weaker foot" for the next game.

A great idea and worthy of it being explored further. My own thoughts that natural instinct will make it impossible to stop. How about if you score a hat trick you have to play the next game in a pair of actual ski boots

tbf the ones that end with a goal are not as exciting. would only give 0.9 for them.

This is really what is really wrong with football. Not VAR or diving, there just isn't enough maths.

The 0.612 Goal of the Month competition will be hot as hell. Looking forward to that.

I also think that the distance that away teams have to travel to the home stadium should also be added into this formula or at least taken into account. Maybe increasing match time by 1 minute for every 13 miles travelled.

You are probably right, but I'm thinking maybe some more of a really, really tight bib instead, so that the player is more uncomfortable than usual, therefore putting them at a clear disadvantage. Or maybe they have to wear their boot on the wrong foot instead, so that their stronger foot has the weaker boot and vice versa.

Extra half goal if the supporters chant really enthusiastically.

"Well done the referee, well played the opposition" etc..

I think a overhead scisscor kick should count for 3 goals.
