I'm not sure, Maguire you should get 10 years out of but is he as good as Luiz who has won the CL and multiple league titles in 3 countries? Obviously Luiz has a mistake in him but his ball playing abilities are world class.
I'm just wondering if you're sure yet?

They are one injury away from a true crisis. Emery with each game looks a clueless coach. Nothing special so far I have seen from him. Big season for him. Top 4 or bust.

Exactly

We will.. in time. Football moves in cycles, Wenger had his opportunity in 2016 when Leicester won it, and it was obvious that we were at the end of his cycle in 2018. There was no way Wenger was winning the title in this cycle with Klopp and Guardiola around, and Liverpool/City playing like invincibles. Now that we've come to that conclusion its logical to get someone else in and give him a chance of starting a winning cycle which will peak next season. Last year and even this year our aim is to get back into the top four. Next year should see a title challenge, or at least getting close to City/Liverpool. If either of those two don't happen Emery will get the boot, we don't have any sentimental ties to him.
I know football fans are great optimists, but there's no way in hell you'll be anywhere near competing next season, unless you have some sort of miraculous transfer window, and City and Liverpool either change manager, or have really unexpected issues.

Emery might hit his peak though, but that'll probably be competing for 4th.

Bellerin doesn't win the ball back as often as Wan Bissaka but he got 5 assists off 18 games last season which is a very high attacking contribution

Shaw vs Tierney? Hard to say as Tierney is new to the league but he looks a top talent

Sokratis/Holding vs Lindeloff/Smalling - I really don't know about your 2 as I don't watch them often enough. Sokratis is a solid no nonsense defender and Holding looked very composed before his injury.

Arsenal's main defensive weak links were 1 Mustafi - cost us countless points 2. Kosceilny - solid servant but his legs have gone a bit 3. Maitland Niles - like you playing Young he's not really a defender

This season we'll have 5 defenders we didn't have for much/all of last year: Luiz, Tierney, Holding, Bellerin and Chambers
Are you really suggesting Luiz is better than Maguire? Jesus wept.

Not too sure what Emery was smoking when he signed Luiz but I’m certain that it was a variant of crack cocaine.

I said when they signed him that Luiz is a clown. He’s always a disaster waiting to happen unless he’s next to a commanding CB like Silva. He’s better than Mustafi but Arsenal should’ve aimed for higher than ‘better than Mustafi’ imo.

Emery’s tactical set up doesn’t exactly do much to protect the back four though tbf. Having CB’s like Sokratis play out like that is daft. I remember when Rodgers first came in at Liverpool and tried to get Skrtel to play out like that and it never suited him. Some CB’s simply aren’t able to play that way.

Shots only tell half the story. I remember there was a stats piece in the Times years ago explaining how Arsenal (admittedly under Wenger) were starting to let teams shoot more 'on target' but the efficiency of their attack meant they would score. It's a risky strategy, but what's different between then and now is they have Xhaka who is a dreadful midfielder.

They can't control a game for toffee, still are rubbish away from home and a good counter attacking side will get the better out of them. Their home form, Auba, and full backs still to return are probably the only reasons for optimism.

A lot of my Arsenal supporting mates have had enough of Emery. That performance seems to have done it for them.

But yet the Arsenal fans on here - for the most part - get upset when people say he’s a-bit shit. I called him a-bit shit the other week and @Mogget had the temerity to call me a “WUM”. I was so taken aback I couldn’t even respond to him.

Emery's Seville teams had an unreal record at home and an unbelievably bad away record, this was consistent over 3 years and seems to be continuing. If he maintains such poor away form (has done for 4 years now) he will be in real trouble and no chance of improving into a top 4 team

Tierny hasn't even played a game and is not preferred to Kolasinac, is he injured?

Also, Arsenal like a lot of the teams below the top 4 are just overrated.

I've never called you a wum because you called Emery shit. I call you a wum because you're a well known wum. Although I suppose even you're right every now and again

They are in a for worse situation than Utd or Chelsea right now.
I dunno, the one thing they have in their favour is that they will always score goals such is the quality of their strikers. All it then takes is the lesser opposition to not take their chances which is always likely because they're lesser opposition for a reason and they'll get plenty of results

What I will say and what I've said all along is that they're no better than they were under Wenger and Emery is nothing more than a yes man and an quite 'average' manager

You had a fair bit to say in the Pepe thread as well. It's still open if you want to revise anything.

I mean, I can be a bit of a cock to posters who I perceive as being cocks, but in footballing discussion I can’t really say I wum. You may not like my opinions but hey, we can’t always agree. The only real interaction I remember with you was you trying to tell me Welbeck was better than Giroud. Guess that’s two things at least, that I’ve been right about

Really? Seems mental he would accept a two year deal and not have a renewal after the first season.
Nah he was damaged goods after PSG, he needed a big job ASAP whatever the conditions

Doesn’t seem like a glowing endorsement from the Board to hand him a two year deal. So yeah, barring a very unlikely drastic change of events, he’ll most likely be gone this summer.
