Trump tried to bride Zelensky (Ukrainian President) to go on cnn and announce a fake investigation into Joe Biden. In return trump would give zelensky a white house meeting and stop holding up the military aid (that Congress had already passed for Ukraine) as ransom.

He's been caught in a transcript saying this, diplomats in Ukraine have seen it happening, Guilliani basically said this was happening and Mick Mulvani had his " A few good men" moment and admitted it at a press conference

The hearings aren't a waste of time. It has to be done even if the Senate acquits him. Congress has a constitutional duty to keep the executive branch in check. This gross abuse of power and criminal conduct needs to be fleshed out.
Trump tried to bride someone other than his daughter?

Can someone summarise this chaos in a couple of sentences.
Is it a massive waste of time and money or is he in trouble
It’s a good move for the Dems. Their own supporters would not have easily forgiven them for not trying. There’s an (admittedly small) chance that it works. It also makes public a lot of criminality and potentially fecks a number of other high profile GOP figures.

The only risk is that Trump manages to convince low information voters that acquittal means innocent and they buy into his witch hunt bullshit.

Still worth the gamble for me.

Sanity aside. Donald trump i bet is the best thing that ever happened to some countries. Russia, china, uae, israel and probably many others would love him for the 2nd terms. He did afterall sabotage us from the inside better than anyone else.

A trade war with china is inevitable, they're so glad it happens under trump. The less said about russia. I never thought the day would come when i root for putin ahead of a POTUS.

So what happens if the Senate doesn’t vote for impeachment, if illegal activity/ bribery is quite clearly proven? Are there any other avenues that can be taken?
i Think its time for Republicans to stop arguing that he didnt bribe the Ukrainian president. They have a better chance of just saying he did it but so what.
They already seemed to be following that line. The argument that some on Fox and Friends we’re making were that as the bribery wasn’t successful (I.e. the US didn’t stop sending aid to Ukraine, and nothing has been released on the Bidens), none of this matters for much.

New York are sitting waiting to feck him on state charges after he leaves office if that’s any consolation.

I wish someone would bring up his cover up of what was going on while he was an Ohio St assistant coach while he is shouting about whatever it is he wants to shout about that day.

They knew about and covered up Michigan State style team doctor stuff and he has the nerve to act all high and mighty on everyone.

Next time he demands Hunter Biden be called as a witness the Dems should say ‘ok, and we call the Michigan State guys’.

repubs now using semantics to fight Trump's case. No witness directly said "bribery" so there is no bribery

And that right there is exactly why this is such an uphill battle for those who want to call Trump out for what he is. The voices who have everything to gain from Trump further leading this country into weakness are probably using every tool in the book to try and convince the Rs (and probably some of the Dems) he needs to stay where he is.

The feck!
Intimidates witnesses, tweets out conspiracy theories and memes and even after all that, the republican voters act like it's no big deal, it's just Trump being Trump. It's like this is the new norm. As John Oliver said, next year is going to be even crazier when Trump is going to be even more unhinged and the country is going to be even more divided. Although it will be great to see him lose, there's a part of me that worries about the fallout.

Volker trying to "threat the needle" to mentally separate Burisma and the Bidens to justify his actions as appropriate is pathetic. Rudy digging for Biden dirt in Ukraine was known in May. It's not credible that someone as experienced as he is didn't connect the dots between the two things, given he knew Hunter Biden had been on Burisma's board.

Neither Morrison nor Volker have been beneficial witnesses to the GOP case, despite both being GOP witnesses.

How will Fox and hate talk radio spin that testimony?

Just ignore it? Not like their viewers/listeners will search for it.
As always it will be either to ignore the finer details like Repub defense right now like Trump was concerned about Ukraine corruption ignoring he was only worried about Biden, Trump had negative view of foreign aid/he wanted other to share the load ignoring that he conditioned this aid on that Biden investigation and 2016 election conspiracy investigation.
Or go full blown stupid saying no witness literally said "bribery" or "quid-pro-quo" so there is no bribery or quid-pro-quo like Nunes was blabbering in the morning hearing.
or straight up attack the witnesses like they always do.

Consistent GOP angle:
Trump was concerned about whether or not Z was the real deal and hence held back the aid for 55 days. The reason he was concerned? Rudy Guiliani's negative input from second irregular channel, thanks to being influenced by corrupt prosecutor. No evidence of 'bribery' or 'quid pro quo'. The process has been a sham and is a mockery of democracy. The witnesses are just stating their opinions and the President decides final policy anyways. Asking about Bidens? That's just because Biden Jr is part of the corruption. Let's focus on that, now.

It might just work given 40% voters are insulated from facts and the gerrymandering adds electoral college votes anyways.

Now they've very conveniently thrown Vindman under the bus.

"Didn't follow protocol. "
"May have leaked info"
"Felt frustrated because he wasn't being involved"
"Poor judgement"
"Wasn't really involved"

Trump ain't going anywhere. Impeach or don't impeach, he's got a new strong card to play now.

Am I incorrect in understanding that the majority vote didn't reflect in the electoral college result for Trump because Republicans' successful gerrymandering over the years?
Fraid you’re mistaken on that one. Gerrymandering is for state elections, in the general each state votes as a whole so there can’t be gerrymandering.

Trump won because in the US you win based on a total of votes accorded to each state. In California for instance the Dems won by a vast margin, but it doesn’t really matter because even a narrow win there would have given the same number of electoral votes.

It’s a shitty system.

Seems obvious now that you say it. I stand corrected. I'm getting too involved in this, like a reality show. Someone needs to tell me when to stop making a fool of myself.

Not surprising to mix up a few details here and there, it’s a complicated and arcane system. Like the way 2 states actually have a form of proportional representation. Just 2 out of 50. And the little fact that in many states electoral college voters don’t technically even have to vote for who the people voted for.

It’s an outdated mess.
