Is this meant as a joke? Because obviously when we're losing so many constituencies in the North we have to look at why and they'll tell you that New Labour did feck all for them.

I live in the North. Whilst New Labour weren’t perfect a lot of people appreciate the amount they did and the amount they invested in public services. No government is perfect and they should have done more, but there’s a reason New Labour won 3 elections in a row.
I'm not of a mind to ignore that. Corbyn clearly was a huge failure this election and people voted specifically against him. But if you don't think people's memory of what a Labour government actually does is relevant then you're being silly.
Would be farcical if Corbyn does not resign now.
He's already confirmed he'll stand down before another election.

Does reaffirm my view as a minority travelling around the UK - there's a lot of xenophobic views towards migrants/minorities behind the pro-Brexit vote. I've always felt a lot safer travelling around Spain than the UK, where a walk down the street in smaller white towns has often led to racial abuse.
Not helped at all by the Daily Mail, telegraph etc spewing their usual tripe. You see it with Maeghan Markle - nothing wrong with her but she's the absolutely detested by readers of the mail, victimised purely because she's a bit foreign. I guess that's what you get in a country where the sun and the daily mail have the highest readership, in the millions - the country overwhelmingly backing Brexit and a buffoon in Boris Johnson is no surprise.
Its not the sole reason for the election result but the trend towards the right and nationalism throughout the world does leave me uneasy.

the bleed-off of votes started in 2001 (2.5%), was massive (5%) in 2005, and reached its nadir in 2010 (a further 6%, down to 29%, far lower than today's figure). accompanied by a steady decline in turnout.
thatcher, the other 3-termer, did not lose votes in a comparable way, and with her union-busting and houseownership, laid down the foundations for repeated wins, and for generations of committed voters.
i've already said that corbyn should resign (i said it in july when boris became leader - https://www.redcafe.net/threads/jer...you-say-epstein.409447/page-353#post-24483376). i've also said today that i'm skeptical that any momentum candidate can do better next time around with the stigma of corbyn.
the other parts of the party should similarly introspect on the lost votes of 2005 and the further lost votes and the lost elections on 2010 and 15.

He’s built a party no one likes full of politicians no one likes, pushing ideas and economic policies no one likes backed by unions and movements no one likes and it appears no one likes him either. Impressive and focused work.
It will be very interesting to see what Labour do now. Hopefully ridiculous and unsuitable creatures like McDonnell and Abbott are swept away and consigned to history along with Corbyn and a modern and realistic Labour Party emerge that really represents the working classes and are not just a Union / Momentum mouthpiece. I really hope they get it right, the country will need a strong and capable opposition now more than ever.
So what happens next? What do we think the tories are actually gonna do?
