Ole should pick up Haaland and his teammate Hwang Hee-chan (#10/ACM) on cheap release clauses from Salzburg. Also get in ahead of Liverpool and West Ham for Haaland's Norwegian teammate DM Sander Berge, a huge (6'5'', 212 lbs) DM with nimble feet and very good range and accuracy when passing (84% completed passes and 3.7 long ball connections/match in CL group play this year). All three would be available for EL competition and would elevate the physical ability and skill levels at their positions for less than 80m in fees. With 2 national team mates on board in January, Ole can pull out all the stops to go after Norway's finest, CM Martin Odegard, in the summer. Rebuild well developed by the start of 2020/2021 season (in my dreams anyway).

I don’t really get this. Why would Raiola stop Haaland joining us? If Haaland wants to join United there is very little Raiola can do about that. The guy is an asshole to deal with but there is a reason so many players use him as an agent. He gets the player the move they want on a very good salary.

It’s an easy story to write given the recent history between Raiola and United.
The reason Raiola would want to stop Haaland from joining us is that he is also the agent of his father, Alf-Inge Haaland. The man who injured Roy Keane. Raiola protected him once by throwing chairs in the room after SAF kicked a boot in Alf Inges face for ruining the career of Roy Keane.

Haven’t seen much of this lad, tbh but have read some impressive stats and seen a couple of clips.

A few have likened him to Ruud, as a poacher but does he have a broader aspect to his game? Does he even score from outside the box?

You don't know about this? I thought this was common knowledge at this point, well no point arguing three question marks. Probably a smart response though if you don't want to get thread banned.

Haha I get that. But Haaland together with Rashford and Martial could lock Greenwood out of the team for years. Would we not be better getting someone towards the end of their career whilst Greenwood matures?
Getting Haaland does not lock Greenwood out at all, you have a busy fixture list, you get injuries, players need resting, half the people here complain the squad is way too thin, getting Haaland gives you depth remember Ole played with Cole, Yorke and Sheringham in the squad and got plenty of time on the pitch.

It is somewhat clear from his demeanour that he has decided to sign for another club. He wouldn't have sounded cold for an incoming player.
If I had to bet my money, it would probably on Mandzukic or no signing in Jan.
Ole has to be very careful about what he says as Haaland is still another club's player, I don't think you can tell much from what he said at all, but if I had to bet I would back the positive reactions to this rather than the negative. It would have been easier for Ole to say I don't talk about players that are not mine next question.

Hi,

If this is anything like the De Ligt thread, we'll soon be saying we didn't want Haaland anyway

I wanted Minamino instead and the scousers locked him up. Meanwhile our boss is coming out with this kind of stuff.

To me it sounds like we're 5th choice and Haaland is waiting for offers from elsewhere.

I know 2 very credible sources from Norwegian media (and since norway is so small - these guys know everyone in Norwegian football) - have both said that Haaland wants to play for OGS, but both have also said that the one thing that could stop it is a certain agent.
Than the player is idiot. You pay your agent not the other way around. He has to do what you want. "go bring me a fat contract"

Did they mention why and how Raiola can stop the move? From what's reported he isn't his agent and just an advisor. Even agents can't stop players from signing for clubs. Ultimately everything is with players.

Saying that agents always end up getting big fee, without which the signings are not completed. So maybe some sort of agreement with Raiola.

Fake news. It was Quinton Fortune's career. Common mistake since they look very similar.

Same feeling I'm getting from that clip. Looked quite enthusiastic and looks like he's dying to tell everyone he's signing, but at the same time he's gotta remain professional and do a shit pokerface....In fact, he had exactly the same face as my 4 year old has when I ask him if he has seen my chocolate that I left on the table!

Watching that video, I'd be very surprised if we don't get him. Ole looked giddy ffs.

Red Card for Casemiro!
Ole could put a positive spin on a melting ice-sheet swallowing an island. I will not read into his demeanour on the Haaland comments - I'll believe it once I see the fella stepping out on the pitch for Man United.

He looked giddy on the touch line after Lindelof knee’d the ball into his own net so I wouldn’t read anything into his expressions in either direction

You are one of the posters on here that should stop listening to the sources in you head and comprehend that all media (trustworthy) have us as the favourites to sign him.

Okay, I've watched all of his highlight videos on Youtube and have managed to convince myself he's the next Zlatan. I'll be really disappointed if we don't sign him next month, so let the heartbreak begin, as per usual.

Has anybody mentioned that Haaland is following Manchester United on Twitter?

He follows just 3 other football clubs, RBS Molde and Bryne. The clubs he has played for...

Interesting, he doesn't even follow his beloved Leeds.

It's a big if, but if he has chosen us I'd like to see a quick conclusion as soon as the window opens. No one wants a transfer saga.

I feel pretty sure both him and minamino will move clubs as soon as the clock hits january.
The deal is probably as good as done, only question is with which club.

Is it just me or is he very one footed, unlike Greenwood?
Doesn't look it, but yeah Greenwood is certainly both footed and likely going to lose the ball less. But Haaland has a physicality and dribbling style that would likely power through a defence more, whereas Greenwood tends to glide his way out of trouble. They're both a bit different but which is a good thing.

I'm at least happy we are linked to a 6ft 4 striker. We might actually do well from corners for once!

Most players are very one footed in reality. Giggs was quite possible the most one footed player I've ever seen. Didn't really set him back much. Same with Messi.

Manchester United are in talks with Red Bull Salzburg over a January transfer for Erling Haaland, but contrary to reports the club did not make a move for the Norwegian’s team-mate Takumi Minamino.
Liverpool are set to sign Minamino next month, triggering his £7.5 million release clause, but The Athletic understands the suggestion that United were beaten to the punch for the Japan winger is incorrect.
Instead, United’s efforts are being put into securing Haaland, and to that end Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward travelled to Austria to meet the player’s representatives on Friday.
It is believed United have been given encouragement from the 19-year-old striker, who struck up a good relationship with Solskjaer while they were together at Molde, and Red Bull are open to a sale when trading begins
