Thanks letting me know :) Doesn't sound much to get excited about sadly. Was hoping he'd been playing well if we are really interested in signing him :(
Looks like Ole is basing it on last years performance against City. He has a bee in his bonnet about him and seems to be ignoring this seasons performances. Maybe he only wants him for the S/F against City.

What what?

Where did I say he's any good or we should sign him? I hope we don't go anywhere near. I'm saying I doubt he wants to leave or Newcastle want to sell, we saw this in the summer.

I'd rather we loan an experienced player than go for a silly bid on this guy.
You literally said he was doing well in the league, not being able to nail down a starting spot in a Newcastle team would suggest otherwise. Glad we both agree though he’s not good enough and should avoid at all costs.

Please not another window of people crying about FC, far more annoying than anything he posts
It will unfortunately be another window of people moaning about that guy, and others moaning about their moaning. And yet more people moaning about the ones moaning about the original moaners resulting in the thread being constantly taken off topic.

If only there was a solution that the forum mods could implement to nip it all in the bud.

It's one thing to be thinking of Can and Longstaff this window, but the idea that they'd still be on our radar in the summer, when in theory we'd have more options, is desperately depressing.

Let's not kid ourselves, every thing Long-boy or E. Can do, Matic can easly do. Let's not spend money to downgrade our squad again.

Longstaff is cat’s piss. I made the same argument in the summer and his form has only strengthened this belief.

Woodward over ruled José when he wanted Maguire saying he wasn’t better than what we have, surely he’ll do the same with Ole and Longstaff? But we signed Maguire in the end..oh no! :nervous:

If Ole only wants him on his performance against City that is mad. Maybe he can see something in him which he thinks is going to be useful that we can't spot.

Can’s clearly a good player but the main knock on him is mobility, which is one of the main reasons Matic has fallen out of favour. He’d be a good squad player but he isn’t paid squad player wages and that’s a pretty substantial hurdle for a guy that probably wouldn’t be first choice when everyone is fit and on form.

Can makes sense, Longstaff doesn't.

Can would do a job, allow us to rotate, shouldn't cost the earth (possible loan) and has played in the PL so shouldn't need too long to adjust.

Longstaff has shown nothing above what we already have and is young enough to be around for years taking up another squad spot that could just as easily be filled by a kid of our own. Plus he'd cost an obscene amount for someone who has shown so little.

Maybe, but not sure we need more players to develop. If he goes down the buying only young players it could end up a complete mess. He needs to get a bit of class and experience in there. These players need guidance and they are getting feck all.

Yeah I can understand the Can interest.

Do you think we could get Can on loan until end of season?

I don't think Can would be a bad signing at all this month, I'd be happy with it actually (because partly its better than nothing), but for him to be high on our list in the summer would be weird.

Possibly, he's played 7 times for Juve this season for a total of 272 minutes (just over 3 full 90s) so Juve may be willing to save on his wages and it'd be a smart move by us to have an option rather than obligation and we can assess whether to take it further or if we have had success convincing better targets by the summer.

Agreed.

Can would be an astute buy.

Hope we could get him on loan then. But bye the summer I would want our primary targets identified and preferably signed before pre-season. No fecking about and just get them done.

Correct. That's Longstaff signed then.
Haha well yes, unfortunately that will probably be the case.

I am still somehow naively hoping that we cannot continue to be so incompetent, so I’m just clinging on to that really.

Loan?
You have to be careful with International players just before big events in summer.
He ll come over have some good games then he may start being "very careful" not to injure himself before Euros.
I would avoid Can

Think that applies to all of us. It is the constant disappointments that I cannot take much more of. We should still be ticking along nicely, even if not always winning things. Our fall from grace has been staggering.

Check out the banter in this thread. Some had convinced themselves this guy was the oracle based on a handful of PL appearances. Hilarious.

Didn't think of it like that. I would only want player who gives his all every game but I could understand him not wanting to injury himself before a major international tournament.

Emre Can on loan or a short term contract would be a solid move for us right now. He wouldn't address the lack of creativity issue but would provide us with another decent CDM option. Fred is going to collapse if we don't buy anyone. No idea who we get for the creative role. Don't think we have anyone lined up.

If we buy Sean longstaff then we're just confirming that we're no longer a serious big club.

Christian Eriksen has been playing deeper recently and would provide much need creativity. Shouldn't cost over £25m.

Can, short term I am ok with. A loan till the end of the season with an option to buy would make sense.

Longstaff however is fecking murder whenever I’ve seen him play. Would rather give those minutes to Garner, if that’s the best target out there for us.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. Doesn't sound like he fancies coming here though. Can you blame him?
