I think we were after him in the summer but his club started playing games and try to set up an auction. Understandly if they were trying to artificially inflate the price we stood back. Perhaps now is a more opportune moment to go back in as they have realised we won't be messed about with anymore.
If that was the case he should have been signed straight when the window opened we have had plenty of time to do so. I still think this is not planned at all just trying to fix current situation we are in. Not that I have anything against us signing him this just reeks of panic buy if there ever was one.

Duncan castles in his podcast.
Said we met on Friday with sporting.
Significant progress made. They want 75 mil but we won't do that.

We proposed Joel Peirera and Gomes on loan but they look non starters.
Gomes might be possible but contract situation makes things difficult.
Obviously Rojo another one discussed (Salary too high)

Will update if he says anything more significant.

Sporting expect deal to go through.

I’m glad we look to be getting him but also frustrated. It was obvious we needed AT LEAST another midfielder in the summer and he was available. What the feck did we wait for.
Most fans knew we needed a replacement, but it is quite possible that Ole did not understand this.
The other possibility is that Woodward said that we could sign him in the Summer, but let's hold off (to save money). If it turns out that we do need a CM, then we can buy him in January.
The positive with this plan is that it might save money (if we don't have to buy in Jan and there is no CM emergency).
The negative is that if we run out of CMs, then our results will suffer, even if we do buy in Jan.

Remember, whenever we make an obvious screw up and Woodward is behind it, it usually relates to saving money.

Even now, I still don't know if we will sign him in January or not.
The incompetence of Woodward and his staff is staggering.

If Simon Stone says he wants to join, then he wants to join. BBC just won't report on conjecture and won't report something unless the source is as rock hard as Captain Holt's brain.
But when do they break that before its reported in every other outlet?
Have the BBC ever broken a story? Furthered it with an exclusive?
Its all well and good being this reliable but it cones with a price, and that price is being beaten to everything by everyone else. Everyone can be relaible if they just wait for official confirmation.
Saying that, Stone has specualated many times so its not gospel.

They were the first British journos to throw their hat on this on Friday.

The Pattern of Ed's play is getting quite predictable.

Leak Van De Beek rumours as soon as the city humiliation
Get Bruno rumours started and drag till end of the month and pull away with quotes "Sporting wanted too much", 'Agent wanted a part of OT as negotiations' etc and sustain the 'No value in the market' statements.

We might still get Bruno but the pattern emerging is not going to fool anyone

Yeah that's the trade off, though I think they were the first this side of the channel to report it. So while other journalists might jump the gun in order to get ahead of the pack, it won't necessarily be 100% accurate. Every other outlet will also report countless things that won't happen or is largely fictitious. BBC and Simon Stone won't.

This signing would really excite me if it happens. I darent get my hopes up but i am now.

You cannot argue with his end product and if he can he bring this to United he will be a superstar. For me it is a no brainer and we should have sealed this in the summer.

If i was religious i would pray.

I think it's a fecking disgrace that a national broadcaster is actually a reputable source and doesn't make stuff up.

Wasn’t Ducker considered to be fairly reliable, not so long ago? Or have I made that up?
He's a funny one, under Moyes he was basically gosepl then for a few years he didn't seem to get given much by the club then over the last few years we seem to have made him our most reliable journalist again.

If we get Bruno how is that still part of the pattern?

Sorry to be frank, but I can't believe anyone would genuinely believe this horseshit. And the fact you've included that last sentence just invalidates everything you've said before it.

It must get disheartening for the lad if you think you are getting transferred and it doesn't happen, then has to go back to just about carrying your football team.
Imagine his relief when he signs for us and no longer has to carry a midfield...

Cannot get excited by this for some reason. I would be delighted if we do sign him, don't get me wrong, but then what? I really hope this doesn't stop the Woodward / Glazer songs from the weekend and general discontent towards the club at the moment.

Stone Cold Simon Stone pissing on everyone’s chips:

I heard that Frank Vincent at Torquay United would be interested in joining Manchester United but no guarantees as yet.

My fear is that we laboriously spin this out a'la Perisic and then mess it all up. But let's just pray.
From what the reports at the time suggested, we walked away from the Perisic deal because they were asking way too much for a player of his age and they wanted Martial as part of the deal which we felt didn't represent good value, hard to see us walking away from this one for such reasons.

To be fair, Woodward does leak positive news the moment we lose a game. Remember when we were having our poor transfer window and all of a sudden papers were talking about a change in structure with a technical specialist coming in?

I think Fernandes happens. BUT there's a strong possibility he's a Pogba replacement. Woodward and our planners ARE that stupid.

Can actually see us getting this one over the line. Just the sort of player we need to improve our squad.

I really think that it's Sporting who have been driving this transfer and United are open to signing him just not at a marquee price which is sensible because we need numbers in midfield but really should be cautious about how Fernandes might adapt to the league and whether he's a long term first XI option.

If we can get them to agree to a deal that is below £45m as a base fee and below £60m with addons then I think we will go for it, otherwise we will quite rightly back away.

Not at all.

If Simon Stone says "it's not finalised" "still work to be done" "not guaranteed" etc. - that usually means it's gonna happen.

EDIT: example below
