What’s the point buying players for a manager who is going to be sacked. Or are we looking at the summer window on the horizon, where we’ll do all these deals, but wait no, the new manager will then need to assess his squad and give Jesse another year to prove he should be retained.
Feck it’s all false promises at United, heard them so many times.
Because like most clubs we should expect the manager to coach what he's got and not ascribe to some 5 year project where he needs to sign every player personally.

Our squad is too thin to play a 3 man midfield so 4-3-3 is out.

We could try 4-4-2 but we only really have James who is a winger, two fit strikers so if you need to change it means changing the formation. Maybe James and Chong could play as out and out wingers with Greenwood and Martial up top. A striker would be a must in January for this to work.

Maybe 5-3-2 works while Rashford is out. You would want to drop AWB and play Dalot for some attacking threat down the right. A back five of Dalot, Lindelof, Maguire, Rojo and Williams. Matic and Fred. Mata/Lingard/Pereira behind Martial and Greenwood. We’d really need a midfielder and striker for depth.

point is leaving ourselves thin like we have mean there isn’t much in the way of options.
Considering how many centre backs we have on the books and the general make up of our squad it seems a no brainer to go with 3-5-2. Especially when you have some one like Fred covering so much ground almost like 2 centre midfielders.

For me the main concern is playing 1 striker. We tried it with Rashford, now we've decided he's best from the left. Martial is doing okay but hardly excelling in the role. If either are going to play as strikers we probably need 2 up front. And if Martial is going to play up front at all, hes probably suited to a partner that has some of the things he doesnt.

We could play Fred, McTominay and Pogba as a 3. Over time Andreas might be okay there too. Then we have Garner and presumably a new CM. But thats 1 player rather than 6...

If we consistently played three at back we would have an injury crisis at CB all the time. Jones, Bailly, Rojo live on the treatment table and Tuanzebe might be following down that path as well. 6 CBs and two of them can be counted on to be fit.

Slimani probably is true as the type of short-term loan signing Ole was talking about. He’s better then what he showed at Leicester but it’s not a good look for the club. We’re a mess.

Obvious bollocks, but I can't believe Slimani is still a Leicester player.

The press are loving this though, they can link us with anyone and we're so shite people are going to believe it.

So shocking it's not even true.
I dont understand how so many fans get riled up about every rumour thrown out there.

At least wait until some reliable journalist tweets something before even considering getting aggravated.

Must be the gloom in here that feeds off itself and makes every opportunity to get disappointed at the club tempting.

Why are you all doing this to yourself?

Even the Bruno saga is like this. If you believe or react to every rumour about it, you are setting yourself up to be distressed.

Why just wait until something is 100% confirmed or the end of the window before beiing angry/glad/disappointed or whatever?

I like to get my anger out in stages as opposed to waiting for the inevitable when the window closes. It's better for my heart as opposed to one big freak out.

I think maybe you misunderstood.

The headline says "United make SHOCK enquiry for Slimani"

I'm saying, the reason it's a SHOCK is because it's not actually true. It's all made up.

I'm not riled up.

Slimani isn't very good but if it's only short-term loans we are able to do in this window, we do need another striker/forward. He'd also offer a (admittedly poor/basic) plan B when our usual shite doesn't work. Start lumping long balls and hope for 1-0 wins might have to be an option.

Personally though I can't see this being true.

oh, who doesn't remember the days where it was Liverpool that was linked to random dross from the bottom half of the league. Cannot believe how the board and owners over so many years have just let the club be run with no serious strategy of staying a top team.

What is the point of signing any striker unless we get proper production from midfield. Beginning to look like they will just wait for Scott to come back and he doesn't exactly have a consistantly dazzling array of passes.

Exactly, it's baffling. We can't create anything, yet we're being linked with all these bargain bin strikers with no one to make any chances for them.

Certainly starting to look like the plug has been pulled, leaving the club to pursue short-term loan deals.

To see United reduced to this while Liverpool storm their way to the title (with double our points tally) is hugely depressing. The people responsible for getting us into this mess (namely, Woodward and Joel & Ethan Glazer) should be hounded out of Manchester.

It's because they've noticed our fans get hysterical and latch onto anything negative in the press. Making their job easier, it's like a game to them now.

Must be so many bets on what threads they can get started on the forums via their "news".

I like the Rashford and Martial partnership. The problem is the right side and a average midfield without creativity. Few forwards in the world would shine in this team who has no structure.

Slim's a great striker IMO, when he's really on top of his game. He knows where the goal is and is deadly in the air.

He wasn't necessarily a disaster for us as some would have you believe - he's perhaps a victim of his price tag (a club record £29m at the time) and the fact that he was in the shadow of Jamie Vardy. His attitude let him down a lot too - often too selfish and not playing for the team. His best game for us IMO is one he didn't even score in - he provided two assists in our 4-2 win against Man City in which he was an excellent team player.

That was just one game though - he was utterly dreadful after that and the following season we loaned him to Newcastle for £2m, but through injury he only played 4 games, playing a total of 140 minutes. He flopped at Fenerbache the following season (not even featuring from February onwards) but seems to be doing excellently at Monaco this season.

IMO this is just clickbait nonsense - he's locked into a contract for the season at Monaco with apparently no recall. And, like I said in the summer in the Maguire thread here, Leicester won't want to loan a player to help out what could be a direct rival for a Champions League place.

So not happening, and personally I think you can do better than a 31 year old mardy arse like Slim. You're Manchester United for christ's sake!

We will be pushing for low-cost short-term loan deals to try and make a push for the top 4 with the hope of cashing in on the CL money and seeing if we can squeeze top 4 again next year with the same shit squad. If we don't this or next year, we will buy the minimum amount of players required for another potential top 4 push. We are the top-half Newcastle.

United signed arguably 7 first team players in LVGs first transfer window. Most of them while he was still in the WC. What has changed since then?

United still had some prestige back then. Right now it just looks like joining the team is a massive risk.

more like 3 summer windows as we don’t usually sign anyone in January.
Remember this closed season is one of those "tournament" summers that are always "difficult"

So as we find it difficult anyway, it won't be fun!

We had an experienced, big-name coach, a relatively recent track record of success and lots of money. Now we have none of those things.
