This is what I think, we will increase it by 4m or 5m in 2 days before the deadline and Sporting will accept it. Two clubs are trying to make the best out of it at the moment.

Beside, Ed should know that he’s under pressure to make this signing, otherwise I can see the fuming from fans in both Old Trafford and social media.

It’s not the first time it’s been talked about in the thread. In fact I mentioned it pages ago after reading it on sky sports website

Why is it beyond the realms of possibility? It’s not like united and other clubs haven’t done it before
Fair enough I'd not seen it but I haven't read every page of the thread.

It seems a little odd seeing as Sporting's financial trouble is old news. United are unlikely to have only heard of this recently.

So the story is they had a bit knocked back and then went in with a lower one?

Different Media outlets reporting he will be left out from the Squad for next match.
Bang on for the deal if that happens.

Given the percentage of the fee that’s going elsewhere, I think it’s only worth Sporting selling if he goes for about £70m.

I think that’s been the problem all along and why we’ve seen this desperate attempt to whip up hype through the Portuguese media and create a bidding war. Nobody is falling for it however.

I think Sporting have decided if he goes for anything less than around £50m then it’s not worth selling him.

Looking forward to the next phase of the saga, aka him being in the matchday squad. Then playing, then doing something that makes us think he is / isn't leaving at the end of the game.

I thought our bid was 55m pounds. Correct me if I’m wrong. All medias have different numbers, confusing.

Im sure add extra 5m to make it 60m can reach into agreement easily. Sporting also desperate to sell for money.

Yeah my current understanding is we had bid £42m and there was now talk of increasing that to around £47m.

As you say, though, there are so many wildly conflicting stories it’s hard to know what’s happening. If anything.

Sounds more like we are trying the old champ man cheat of offering the maximum fee, getting it accepted and changing the bid to £0! If it worked in 96, why not now!?!
 Sorry, but I just imagined it now.

Sporting sign the agreed form to sign over his registration, only to not see the very obvious tipp-ex'd previous amount of 65m changed to 0.

When Sporting notice it after the fact......

"Why I oughta!!!! Oh well, too late now."

Utd have offered £50 million... or alternatively £70 million if they take Lingard as well.

Didnt they play last week?
Yeah they played in the league on the 17th, so not even yesterday, but the Friday previous to that.

They lost their league cup semi to Braga on the 21st and the only game they have left in the window is Marítimo who sit in 11th place in the league. So they have no big games to try and keep him for. So if we really are in for him then its purely the game playing by both sides about the fee that is holding it up.

Allegedly they’d reached a verbal agreement on 55m then the club issued its official bid at 42m. Whether it’s true or not is debatable but all I’d say is that it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s some truth in that

Lingard is still young and has lots of time to reach his potential. AMs don’t reach their peak until later.

Or it could mean that his heads not right for the next game and he feels he can’t play. Especially if the deal isn’t going to happen.

But let’s be optimistic :)

The reason we are not getting this done is because our long term targets are Madison followed by Grealish and the board likely feels confident they can land one of them.
Does them being English has anything to do with it? It has everything to do with it.
Bruno is likely a better player than both and would come cheaper, I do however believe thats the real reason we arent going all in for Bruno.

I don't know how you're so sure Bruno is a better player than Madison, who is walking the walk in a top league at 22/23. Something Bruno at 25 has so far failed to do.

There's a reason he's cheaper and it's not all down to Nationality.

Madison is overrated because he is english just like Maguire was, like John Stones was, like Wan Bissaka was, like so many english players are.
I do believe when I see what Bruno is capable of, thats not down to the level of competition, its down to his skill. His passing, his shooting technique and power, that works regardless of level of competition.
Madison to me screams above average and not world class. Ditto Grealish. Ditto Declan Rice btw too. Ditto Sean Longstaff. Yet those are the players we will likely be getting in the summer because we have this crazy obsession now with signing British players no matter how much we spend on them. Yet someone like Dani Olmo gets sold for 20 something million. I just so strongly disagree with all that this team is nowadays. All they do is always wrong.

Since the winter transfer window opened, Liverpool have signed a winger, Dortmund have added a forward, RB Leipzig have added a creative midfielder, Inter have bought anyone and everyone but somehow it's difficult to do business for Woodward. There's a special rung in purgatory for people as incompetent as him.

Funny and original. Haha.

A few days ago I was quite sure this would happen, but I’m starting to doubt it now. Sporting has a game on monday so I suspect is off if he plays, and vice versa if he is not playing.

Think he would be a good player for us.

Why wouldn’t that surprise you? Is it because nothing would surprise you or is something specific?

Why is anyone even bothered by this saga?

Is Bruno of a level that will elevate us?

The bloke is in his mid twenties and still hasn’t left a pretty average Sporting team.

Doesn't Bruno have a clause in his contract that requires Sporting to pay him 5m if they do not accept a bid of 50m or more?

If Sporting are as strapped for cash as reported, then I can see why Ed is holding firm at 50m.

Not only does Sporting need the 50m to balance their books, but I am sure they cannot comfortably afford paying Bruno an extra 5m when cash is so tight.

This approach doesn't negate the impact on Man Utd from the delay in bringing in needed reinforcements, but I can see why Ed thinks he has Sporting over a barrel and is refusing to budge.
