We need a striker with poacher instinct. Martial most of the time stays outside of the box and there will be no one to hit that rebounds.
With Rashford out, and if Pogba plays again this season I'd hope we do something like...
Martial Greenwood
Fernandes
Pogba McTominay
Fred
Williams Maguire Lindelof AWB
De Gea
Greenwood and James rotating. Or James going in and making it a front 3, dropping out Fred when needed. With Rashford in there when fit, and Greenwood in the right, it's more than good enough. There's goals in midfield with Bruno (especially if Pogba is there), and there's goals with all the front 3. Problem is no Rashford, no Pogba, no Bruno, and Greenwood being a rotation option for now... all we have is Martial.

All this saga about signing one player from bloody Sporting, when in reality we need 2-3 more.
Ridiculous
Always one.

1 more if you’re lucky

Making a total of 4 signings in a month is crazy talk, that’s 1 a week!

Was the 65 + 15 pounds or euros?
We will pay €55m + €10 m + €15m = €80m. But not really €10m and €15m are bonuses. That €15m is unrealistic = win the champions league. So total will be €65m = £55m.

Not bad provided we sell Mata, Pereira, and Lingard next summer. We should get £40m for those 3. Then we can sign another attacking midfielder on a Bosman; Josip Ilicic, at Atalanta, looks just the one.

Woodward ends up paying full price yet again. Schooled by Jorge Mendes, too funny. Can only focus on one player at a time, sell cheap, buy high. It's the Woody way.

After all this saga he'd better be the bees knees.

If he turns out to be as effective as Sanchez it'd just be too funny.

People like you got no clue at all. I’ll highlighted just for you ;)

You care little for this now since it doesn’t suit what you had started? Alright mate, I get it.

I wonder if @Judas is still laughing
But they're not getting close to 70m euros... That would require us to win the prem.

It's just difficult to talk to you as you deal in absolutes and just ignore the nuance in the deal, just the overall number. We basically ended up agreeing on 55m euros and 10 realistic add one.

Why didn't we start negotiating a month earlier so we could have had him from the start of Jan?
We dont work that way. If we get him....great. With the current regime we can only be thankful.

But only when it is done and dusted. Things can still go wrong.

They were right to haggle? What did we actually gain? We just lost a month and paid the same price by the looks of it. And the Barca links coincident with this "breakthrough". The club should have sealed this transfer back in December. We paid 80 fecking millions for Maguire, the same price that was quoted in the start of the transfer saga. For Fred, nobody else in their right mind would have paid 50m. This gets into the line of shambolic transfer dealings, conducted by total amateurs.
Paid the same price? Come on. You and I both know that's complete nonsense. The amount we are actually paying compared to what was quoted are significantly different. Unless, of course you're include the Ballon D'or and CL clauses in it. We both also know you and others will continue to repeat this until you're blue in the face.

As for the second part of your post? Well, thank you for confirming what I said in my original response.

Weren't the looking for 55m euros guaranteed all along?
They were looking for €70m guaranteed at one point but it was later reported that they would accept €60m guaranteed. We did well to hold our nerve.

Very exciting signing. Excellence in negotiation? I really don’t see that. We are paying what sporting originally wanted at the start of the month more or less. If we gotten him at the start of the month he’d be a month more settled in and who knows we might have won a game or 2 more.

I do think he’s going to be class here though. A winner. A leader. A bit of a head case and passionate. He’s also not lingard. In fact Jesse as a squad player is far more befitting of a supposedly top PL club. He might be able to get some confidence back into his game if he’s out of the team for a while. I reckon he’s probably gone this summer though.

You are missing the point again. The point here is that Sporting increased the price to 80m euro just to make United to get closer to 70m euro. That doesn’t mean they won’t accept anything less than that. It’s a common strategy, Leicester did the same thing on Maguire when we bid 70m, they asked for 90m and we settled with 80m.

Hes going to Barca
The Barca deal is too complicated to complete on such a short time scale as it requires them finding agreement with Valencia (and it's just been reported that their negotiations with Valencia have broken down). Plus, the player seemingly doesn't want to go to Valencia for half a season and Barca would need to find a taker for someone like Coutinho before bringing him in outright (which is why the idea was to loan him for the rest of the season).

 So dramatic some of you. I hate Ed as much as the next guy but as long as he’s signed before the deadline wtf is the problem?

We’ve dragged it out haggling, he’s got to at least try to do his job and sporting we’re pushing it.
Imagine if we had him for the Burnley game and we'd won instead of lost, we'd have been three points from top 4 and not six.

How much did we save by haggling, and how much do we lose if those potential points (seeing as he's not likely to play against Wolves on Saturday either and we might lose points there too) end up costing us CL football next season?

Ya I think Jesse sees the writing on the wall, which is why he hired Raiola. Can see him going to Italy this summer.

Barca's deal is apparently that they'll buy rodri from Valencia and then loan Bruno to Valencia for a year... Can't see Bruno wanting that.
To be fair, I'd jump at that chance to play for barca while proving myself in a top league in spain, and i'm a united fan! If he really did turn down Barca then give him the fecking captaincy I'd say.

You think it would work that way? The reason why we have movement now is because we are fast approaching the end of the transfer window. Sporting were desperate to hold out for more, but invariably they had to sell this window, so this deal was always going to go down to the last few days. Ultimately, it was a game of chicken. Starting negotiations in December would have just meant we would've been negotiating this for 2 months instead of 1.
