A convincing super player would cost at least 150m, mate.
Not necessarily,Coutinho cost 160m and an unproven lad from the Portuguese league with less than 30 apps cost 125m. The market has been absurd in recent years

Sorry I'm confused. Aren't we on agreement here?

Sigh... Thankfully it's getting done, barring some spectacular feckery. So much drama all window over just one player is depressing, considering we need 2 or 3. I wonder if they've been working on anything else. Cos it's starting to look like our current team can only work on one deal at a time. Over to you Bruno, time to justify the hype!
We have been working on other players. Bellingham and Cavani to name two. Whether they get done is another matter.

Seems like I've missed a hell of a lot. Is this definitely a done deal now? BBC report it being close but I don't even know who is trustworthy these days

If that's the final sum after those increased bids, it makes you wonder how much was the initial bid? 20m?
It does make you wonder. The price reported doesn't seem that bad and it looks like it is essentially lower than what Sporting asked for.

He's supposed to be in Manchester on Wednesday or Thursday. You'll know then.

It's not happening. It's all usual Portugese media thing.

yeh. Much much lower, even after those increased bids. No wonder this thing last so long. Just imagine how low our initial bid was

So he will cost us around 55m pounds (including realistic adds-on), which is fair price. Afterall, he is Portugal international player, and best player in Portugal league in past 2 season, wouldn't say its cheap, but its about the right price in this market. (established top Portugal international player, apart from Ronaldo, Silva and Felix, usually cost around that price range)

Not really. We are pretty much the only ones paying these ridiculous fees.
What era are you in?

Neymar moved for 198 million pounds, that changed the whole thing.

Transfers are like this for big clubs:
1. Get the quality players and pay premium.
2. Get the unearthed gems for peanuts.

Absolutely buzzing. He will be a huge addition. Elite stamina, shooting and creative passing. Exactly what we needed.

A bargain at that price too.

When I see a transfer news confirmed on the Guardian I know its real. He can only improve our squad.

Have been hoping we find a Talisman. Hope it is him!

Wow, so this is really happening huh. I genuinely thought this was going to go the way of Sneijder. Looks like he’ll be a good addition to the team though. Can’t wait to see him in action

Despite differing opinions on the quality of our starting 11, in my opinion, the number 10 spot was the last huge, huge hole to fill. Pereira and Lingard are both nowhere near good enough to be starting there and Mata's not got the legs to be playing week in week out anymore. I don't make predictions like this usually but I think he'll take us up a level, that's how important it was to sign a number 10, he provides so much of what we've been lacking in that role all season. He may take some time to adapt like Fred so I hope we show some patience allowing him to bed in.

Sancho, a quality DM and a back up ST are now the priorities on my summer wish list, fingers crossed.

I will hold my hands up and admit I didn't think we would react so quickly to the Barca rumours, was so sure we were going to walk away from this guy for the second window in a row

Good to see us getting the player we wanted. Hope he proved to be a top player given the outlay and need in midfield. I'm a little skeptical given his lack of dribbling ability/quality in tight spaces.

Not a chance everyone was in agreement on this, it had disaster written all over it.

The moment we came out this 'buying British' policy you could see this coming a mile off.

No offence to any England fans, but it's common knowledge all over the world that England internationals are massively overhyped and for some reason, it's accepted that you have to pay a premium for them (no idea why).

So when you factor in that Utd always end up overpaying for players anyway because we have the money it was/is a shambolic policy in my opinion.

Anyone who doesn't think that the £130m we spent on Maguire and Wan Bissaka (because of this hideous buying British policy) could have been better spent is suffering from a serious case of denial.

Its just yet another example of how clueless and out of touch our recruitment policy is.
Whoever is responsible for both transfers in and out and contract negotiations should actually be ashamed of themselves because I don't think they've made a single good call since Ferguson/Gill left.
Who is everyone? Should the club consult Red Cafe and it’s collective?

There is a bit of an overreaction, to our so called “buying British policy”. usually by some of our Irish followers, taking it literally. Any perceived existence in this, If it helps, probably includes Irish players too. I think the motivation is based around players being more loyal and inclined to play for the badge than players from more distant countries where they tend not to value the Club’s stature so much. (Again, please don’t take this literally) As is usually the case, these perceived policies are knee-jerk interpretations of recent activity and by no means literal, long term or binding. I think too many people believe all they read. These same people probably now believe we are only interested in Portuguese players.

I always thought it was more to do with eliminiting the problem of adapting to life in the country and playing style of the league.

Im still not sure about him, he seems too good to be true, player of the year the last two years in portugal, starter with Portugal, captain, great stats, leadership skills (captain), relatively young, for 50 million he seems a bargain why is nobody else interested?

Yup. But people have to find something to moan about.

It was complete rubbish anyway. We've tried for Haaland and Bruno this window. We tried for Dybala and Erikssen in the summer.

It was just another in a long list of bad faith attacks on Ole.

I still think this is a mistake, he'll be Pogba's replacement and it'll also mean no Grealish who I think has a much higher ceiling, it also does nothing to solve our CM situation when Matic's battery runs out like it does after 7 or 8 games without lots of rest.

Dont worry about it. He's exactly what we need. Ideal signing.

If he's Pogbas replacement we can still go for for Grealish. City have about 5 AMs. Why can't we have 2?

Just give him till late next season before judging him based on most of our winter signings.

There isn't a silver bullet to our troubles. It will be a multiple transfer windows process.

If is such an stupid question, then explain why funny guy
I dunno, mate, maybe read like nearly every other page of this thread, where that exact same question has been asked.
Why is nobody else in for him?
Well, for a start, Spurs tried to sign him in the summer. Secondly, all the other top teams already have quality players in his position. Thirdly, his prefered destination is the PL, maybe his agent has made that known to other clubs?

Also, I was only winding you up in a friendly way, don't take it badly. :)
