Well played we beat City improving all the time. It’s a good place to be.

what a depressing season

Thank god we're signing Bruno. Andreas and Lingard at no 10 have been a disaster for the club.

We need a proper striker now. Martial is not reliable at all.
We really do. He'll be terrific one game and then anonymous for the next three. He's not that young now either.

As I said in the match thread, I've seen more mobile shrubberies.

I can only think that he is saving the kit man some work, as he didn't break a sweat in that game. No need to wash the Jersey...
Fair enough he gets a few goals for us, but his overall play and endeavour is shocking.

Until he improves massively I'd be looking for a striker or two in the next couple of transfer windows. Simply not good enough for a United striker. Look at what it takes to be a United striker: Zlatan, RvP, Rooney, RvN... Martial.

If were going to get knocked out could we have gone out fighting, I'm getting
a bit bored of the same old defensive tactic from Ole with the hope of getting lucky in the break, it's no wonder we are so dodgy against teams that dont commit so many players forward into the opposition half and allow us the space.

Really good performance given the players available and the ones we carried.

The players dug deep and defending well for the most part.

They're showing the replays of the Matic fouls now. Incredibly soft. Neither was a yellow.

We turned it up on them in the latter part of the second half. Thought Fred had a good game and I was impressed with his ball handling. His confidence is very high at the moment. Brandon Williams had a great control of a tough pass. The goal was nice too. My issue is with how we ponder so much on making a pass. Needs more of the instinctive and intuitive passing and we’d have them with their pants down on the counter.

Why oh why does Mata not get to take that free kick?
In an ideal world, Mata walks up to Fred and snatches the ball from his grasp, growling at him in the process. He then precedes to place the ball on the perfect spot before blasting into the top corner and us into the final.

Alas, this is not an ideal world.

To nil them at home with ten men, great effort by the lads. I think Bruno would of had a field day tonight if he was playing, but there's always next
time. I must caution Maguire not to play trick football though, giving and then taking the ball off them at that later stage of the game made me spill
my pint.

Martial needs to go btw. Completely fed up with his lack of effort and movement.

Greenwood is a super sub and thats it. Ole needs to push for a striker this window because if we're to rely on Greenwood as our only other striker option, we are in trouble! We also know that Martial can go out injured at any minute.

We lack that bit of quality to give us a lift to a 2nd or 3rd goal.
Maguire nearly gifted them a goal - once again showing his weaknesses especially under pressure.
Matic was doing well but made an error - easily done.
Not bad overall but nothing to build on - they could easily have trounced us but seemed remarkably reluctant to take their chances.
Bit relieved we’re out to save our dwindling resources.

Just imagine Bruno Fernandes had started tonight instead of Jesse Lingard, or come on instead of Andreas Pereira. Could have made the difference but didn't cos the powers that be dragged their feet in signing him. Like they did with Fellaini, like they did with Herrera etc.

Lindelof was terrible

Martial also.

I don’t need to comment on Lingard.

The lack of leadership was evident with the free kick. Dumb and dumber who wouldn’t hit a barn door standing over a free kick while Mata looks at the dugout for someone to make a decision.

56 mins before the ref decided to give City a yellow card despite foul after foul.

Matic’s 1st yellow was very harsh

Extremely lucky with the scoreline, was a terrible display where we showed no drive to go forward and were happy to sit back and defend and wait for a imaginary counter attack. Ole subs were shocking as well, James at half time for Greenwood? I would of taken Martial off as he is in his annual 3 month holiday mode. Took Ole 60 minutes to get lingard off who was as useful as a spider in water. Then Mata comes on when we desperately need energy, the slowest and oldest player, should have been Dalot. Subs bench as usual contained three defenders, 7where was Gomes? Ole played it safe to minimise a defeat, buy himself a few extra months. I am so annoyed at that game because City were not good at all. If they play like that in the final, Villa will win. We missed an opportunity, thank god Bruno is here assuming Ole knows what he is doing. Had enough of this man playing football manager.

We won and beat City on their home turf. FFS be positive you cnuts.
Have you not learned yet that caftards can only be happy if we hammer top teams 4-0 and even then, if the top team has so much as one good chance against us then it can never be a good United performance.

It fecking baffles me how so many cannot just appreciate a win against a better team no matter how it comes. Then again a lot want Ole out so were probably hoping we'd get thrashed.

He's absolutely maddening. You can't rely on our main striker only being able to contribute if Rashford or Pogba is on the pitch. Maybe Bruno will be able to get something out of him, but I think its a bit ridiculous that so many see him as our main number 9, he just isn't one.

Dont understand how we regularly beat them at the Etihad tbh.
Cant complain. They're the better team of course, over 2 legs you'd expect them to win out so no real surprise, especially considering main player injuries. I'd guess having Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Pogba in will be a massive difference (in general performances). Mctominay too, though Matic has been good so no complaints.

United did well to make a match of it, just missed a bit of quality. Matic shouldn’t have been sent off either. 2nd yellow was highly questionable.

These City players were taking about moving on in the CL after the game. The have no chance. They have dropped so far in performance in last 7-8 months. They looked scared at the end of 10 men at home.

I would say they will be out of the CL in short order.

Not starting Matic in the first leg is what lost this tie. Lost 0-3 until he came on at half time.

Had PSG written all over this., City wasn’t going to score if you add another hour to the match because everything was going our way and City looked indecisive in front of goal. The lad showed some effort, but it was a victory that looked more like a loss.

You can put Agüero there and it wouldn’t matter with our style. The CF has to drop too far to receive the ball, we don’t push enough players forward to compensate. Our attack consist of 4 players max and if that fails then it’s side to side passing in slow motion.

I expected absolutely nothing tonight so I'm happy with the win.

Yes we rode our luck especially in the first 20 mins after that city were crap only real chances they had were gifted to them by us.

No doubt City were the better team over the 2 legs but to be still in it with a free kick 20 yards out in the 89th minute and Fred takes it with mata on the pitch was astonishing.

If only we had a full team out.

That game is a clear example of our entire coaching team not being on the required level. What's rule 101 for dealing with an opposition's high press?

CB's split very wide, DM drops in between to receive from keeper, FB/WB's push higher and wider (as a diagonal out ball) CM drops into place where DM was (for an out ball there).

Granted we played with three in CB, but the principle still goes. Two CB's split wide, Shaw moves forward into DM as Matic drops back between split CB's.

What did we see? Matic and Fred holding position in DM (covered by City player). CB's holding position on the ball. WB's not pushing high and wide. Which resulted in the same clearance down the line from Shaw and Lindelof to either Martial or James.

We don't have tactical specialists involved in our coaching team. It doesn't take world class players in every position to tactically plan for playing out of a press.

We need a striker. United should take a punt on Ivan Toney at Peterborough United, get him for 6/7 mill.

We're going nowhere as a club and some are running around here saying we should be positive. How does that make sense?

We beat City away with 10 men and Rashford, Pogba and McTom out injured? Two straight away wins against Pep,s Human Rights Watchers? Do we even need Bruno? (Yes, we do.)

Beat Pep twice this season though, only manager to take points of Liverpool.

This side is depleted, if we had Pogba, Rashford, McSauce and Bruno the game plan and scoreline would have been very different. He can only work with the tools he has and he has done very well.

I'm happy with that. Can't lie, I feared for us tonight. Shaw and Lingard need to go, that's clear.

I hate how city play, in terms of fouling and buying fouls. I know every team does it but they are the masters. Matic was immense and neither of his cards were justified. Guardiola is so up himself its unreal.

We've got some good building blocks here.

We beat Man City 1-0 a their place without Pogba, Rashford, McTominey and now Fernandes that’s something to be positive about.

His decision making as well. That left footed shot he took in the 2nd half was so dumb. City or Liverpool players in that position would be going past the player or finding a teammate. We always panic in the box and ware those chances.
