Ok so this is what I've gathered on Bruno Fernandes so far:

Positives

World class set pieces. Freekick screamers are the same regardless of league.
Excellent field of vision
Team player through and through.
Very sacrificial and never stops running, even after the win is secured. Martial take notes.
All round great person off the pitch - Attended youth games in Sporting, always helpful and offer advice, very approachable.
Very creative, will try to thread the ball where no one expects it
Shoots, and shoots often.

Negatives

Ball loss. Loses the ball a bit frequently due to his high risk/high reward play
Poor passing % - most likely a result of his role in Sporting, where everything goes through Bruno.
A bit easy to knock off the ball reportedly.

i've been a little skeptical on Fernandes and if his skillset will translate well to the EPL, but after pondering it i think i might have been a bit too negative from the offset. if he can change his game to allow for a higher passing% then I believe he can be a very good player for us.

Either way, Jesse Lingard, your days are numbered son.

Are there any player profiles from non-Sporting fans who watch him regularly? I'm not interested in WhoScored whores that only look at stats (Statman Dave and Tifo can fecking do one, the clueless cnuts).

A relatively neutral source who watches Portuguese football regularly would be nice.

Those are exciting sounding snippets of information about him! Obviously it would be great if he can hit the ground running however I'm aware he may need a little time to get into the swing of the league, the 2 week break might be useful as he gets 2 weeks of learning our "methods" I just wonder if a lot of pressure will be put on him as we are still short and he's our main signing so a lot of expectation!

Re free kicks, please be good at them. OLE if he is that good at him, specify he is to take them when on the field apart from possibly Rashford for the long distance ones. Do not allow the players to decide among themselves who takes it! Still thinking back to why Mata didn't take the one last night that looked perfect for him!

I don't think I'll mind the loss of ball as much as I do when the likes of Jlingz do it at least it would be from him trying to make things happen. I thought he was a bit more solidly built but as Silva and Messi et al have shown if you have the skill sometimes the smaller players are the more skillful

Anyone know how his injury record is? Hopefully hes made of something stronger than the glass a few of our players seem to be made of!

City plays KDB and Silva in the same midfield three. The question is if they can reach their attacking potential
They also play fullbacks that doubleup as central midfielders.

And Fernandinho/Rodrigo are both considerably better at screening the CBs that either Fred or McTominay.

That would be the most open midfield in League.
The idea is that we control games and are running through teams which should mean they aren’t running through us. If those three put in some effort; it’s enough I think.

Idk about that as Fred and Bruno have extremely high work rates and cover a lot of ground. Scott puts in a shift too so basically Pogba would be the only one who would be a bit languid.

Even Barca's Iniesta-Xavi-Busquests triumvirate had a DM with centreback instincts.

You simply cannot get away with a midfield that lacks a player who doesn't have decent awareness of what's going on in the gap between himself and his defence.

That sounds good as far as midfield is concerned, however, it does mean that the full backs have to be the ones providing all the width. Williams and Wan-Bissaka are ok when they are supplementing the width with two other wide forwards, but in the diamond system they'd be wholly responsible for the entirety of our width.
Split strikers? That leaves fernandes to have license in the middle

On this note alone, his pass completion is 76% this year and basically has to do everything. De bruyne is only 81% and plays in a team that will pass for days.

Not something I'm worried about.

Lingard apparently has an 87% pass completion. I don't even know how that's possible.

McTominay and Fred are arguably the hardest working duo in the PL. Throw in Pereira or Lingard if you want to talk about a 3. But even with all of them playing, that doesn't stop us from being really easy to counterattack against.

It's not about workrate or effort or willingness to do the dirty stuff. It's about defensive awareness.

Fred and McTominay are both very good at defending the space in front of them, but poor at defending the space behind them. That gap - between midfield and defence - is where you win or lose games. For better or worse, Matic is our only player who can do that.

I don’t think ours would be any more ‘open’ than Silva, Kevin and Gundogan. But it certainly could be stiffened, especially for certain games. Personally wouldn’t mind Matic sitting in front of the defence. After that, I’ll wait to see how good Bruno is, but if he’s struggling, then Fred or Scott alongside Pogba in front of Matic would work too.

Have we not done an interview with him yet all I've found is a brief paragraph usually theres a video of them doing one? Even if they don't speak English I'm sure theres a video interview, Sanchez's I seem to recall wasnt in English but added fairly quickly?

Know he's probably had a really busy day but surely we could have a few photos of him/ a quick interview it's not like we have multiple other signings to have to announce/ photograph etc!

And look at how much that trio has struggled defensively this season, compared to last when Fernandinho was a regular.

Gundogan has better defensive awareness that Fred, too. Fred is superior at pressing, but that's not that's not as important for a screening player.

So really they got some good money. What's the point in these add ons since they're so achievable?

1 mill for putting on a kit, 1 mill for celebrating a goal
Well they turned down bonuses for us winning the Champions league and Premier as they said they would never get paid

Not exactly player profiles, but that Reddit post of thoughts from people who watch the Portuguese league had some non Sporting fan comments

I can't wait for him to leave so that I can stop pretending he isn't a phenomenal player and easily the best player in the league
/u/TauIsRc -

So glad you're leaving the league little shit scoring left and right, sick of Sporting having such a good player

/u/ruiportugalfigo -

Not a Sporting fan, but I follow the league and the NT pretty closely. Absolutely the real deal. He's started to find his feet with the NT of late, and appears to be a quality player.
Wonderful long-range shooting ability, natural leadership ability, dedicated to Sporting through all of their turmoil/coaching changes/player turnover/crap. Looks a class act and a class player.
/u/DoctorBrolly -

65M€ straight away would be more than fair. He had two amazing seasons.
Not a fan of Sporting in any way, just that very few players were that on fire in our league ever. Honestly, at Benfica or Porto he would be more expensive.
And enough of ass kissing towards a player that screwed my club like 5 times last season alone.
/u/XxlmeidaProject -

As a Porto fan i can't find words to express how good Bruno Fernandes is. I might be a little hyped by seeing benfica get fecked 5 minutes ago but I feel it's safe to say Bruno is the best player to ever grace Portuguese soil.

Apart from the appearance one we will be happy to pay if he achieved the rest.

No big deal. Move on.

Let's just hope, if we get a shed load of ball against the so called lower teams he could unlock a stubborn defence , also his set piece delivery has to be better than we got, unless Fred continues with them ! We just have to wait and see how he gets on,

Honestly, I did not think that we would sign him. It sounded like the same rubbish that we heard in the summer; wanting him to play another game etc.

Now, after chasing him for two transfer windows, it will be interesting to see whether he is any good.

Ok so I never saw him as the ideal signing nor the answer but he ought to be a large upgrade on the other offensive minded midfielders in our side which means we have more quality and I am all for it. This should genuinely free up Pogba more but Pogba might not pkay again so......
