Hyped as the Argentinian Lewandowski

We apparently asked to loan him but were refused by his club. Some have even said that we wanted a loan with a obligation to buy but were still turned down by San Lorenzo. I'd hope we just pay his low buyout if we're ready to agree to a buy obligation but not sure on his work permit status.

How to be a football journalist:

Create a dart board consisting of tall strikers.
Throw dart.
Write "Manchester United are interested in _________".
Profit?

He has a 14 m euros release clause, why can't we simply pay the amount? don't think that it should be that big of a deal for United. If he actually turns out good, we would save at least 50 m in transfer fees which we would have paid to bring somebody like Dembele or Werner or Maxi. If he doesn't, given his age we can always sell him to others for around 10 m given his age.

Yeah, if our scouts are keen, we should go for it.

As long as we don't pay him 10x more than everyone else would :D

FFS, he has a cheap release clause, just pay it. We can probably sell him for profit even if he does not work out.

is it just me or the guy actually looks like a player from 50s and 60s, somewhat like Tommy Taylor?

Has anybody seen this guy play or had heard of him before yesterday? We dont need somebody who is just going to take up space, we have enough players that do that already.

Nobody had heard about Chicharito or even Ole too before we signed them.

Yup, these type of signings happen all the time at other clubs. We don't usually look at the SA market for whatever reason, but plenty of other clubs do. They come to the European league and then explode, and then we pursue them for 50m+ price tags. For once, the scouts may actually be going for targets that are not the obvious.

SA based talent are alot of hit and miss. However they are worth the risk as prices are usually low and the hits tend to be top top talent. Inter are masters in this wheeling and dealing. They signed some duds (Caio, Gabigol etc) but also some top talent (Zanetti, Recoba, Lautaro, Carlos)

Id say pay the fee and give Ole the body he needs upfront. If things don't work out then we will sell him for half the fee with a loss of just few millions. If it works out though we might have a 100m rated forward in our hands

The reasons are weather, work permits and the lack of attraction SA talent has towards the EPL. They know little to nothing about it.

However I agree things should change. The Serie a, la liga and the Portuguese league has been making a killing out of these leagues. Its time we do the same

After carefully analyzing a five minute compilation of the guy's games two hours ago, I have decided that he is the next big thing and we should make sure we sign him before the deadline.

Until only recently English clubs couldn't sign players from South America unless they'd played 75% of their Countries International matches over the previous 2 seasons, you could argue the case and try and get them on a 'special player' ruling but it was a long drawn out affair usually which allowed other club in the main European Leagues with no such restriction to sign them whilst you waited, and waited, and ....

As much as I’d like this kind of signing It would be way too late to try and get this guy now with work permits and stuff and our slow slow recruitment team. Don’t do it to yourselves. The club aren’t taking a new direction and another club will get him for nothing. Let’s see how gets on. He looks talented.

edit: he has a European passport? I hope the club really are looking at him so.

Looks like just what we need from his highlights, not that I'd ever heard of him before tonight.

A quick look on Reddit suggests he has a European passport? Would simplify things massively if so.

Surely we can afford to pay that release clause without breaking a sweat.

This would actually be a very good deal, even if it's somewhat unproven, as opposed to the other random strikers so let's see if your board can do things right with this guy.

I like this kind of low-cost, out of the blue unknown signings that have the potential to be a hit. Judging from the videos and comments from others, I think we should just go for him or someone else like Willian Jose.

True but there's more to it. SA leagues are difficult to navigate in, with each player having loads of agents most of whom tend to be family members. Trust is key and we lack the people and the reputation to do so. I mean have we ever had a SA player who was successful and can vouch for us? Inter do a killing because of Antonio Valentín Angelillo, a former Argentinian player who worked for Inter as scout in the SA region. He was the guy who brought Zanetti to Inter.

We need someone like that.

If we were interested we wouldn't have time to get him over for a medical(unless he's en-route) so he'd have to have it done elsewhere, if only we had somebody in the Americas with the facilities we could trust.

Rojo

The only real thing is work permits.
The first is nonsense repeated everywhere with no ground to stand on.
The other two is absolute bullshit. Just because SA players tend to dream of one day playing for Real or Barça, it doesn't mean PL clubs do not attract them, or that they don't know anything about it.
I'm sorry but I think that's the worst post I've ever seen on the Caf.

Why not? Window closes at 11pm right? That's another 18 hours

It's devilish. All his posts are shite.

Looks good to me,
Proper striker with good technique and is young and cheap
Win Win situation.

Gaich told Argentinian outlet Olé in the summer of 2019

That line proper confused me for about 5 minutes.

Anyone know why he missed San Lorenzo's last game on Saturday? Injured?
Was with the u23 NT for the Olympics but pulled out due to a potential transfer to Brugge. Could be in Europe.

Was going to say we should bring Angelillo on-board then, but my friend google says he died two years ago this month aged 80.

He died unfortunately. Its more about having a SA whose a bit of a legend in SA and whose got ties with the club. The closest I can think of would be Seba Veron. He's currently working as a director of football with Estudiantes but they aren't even paying him for the job. Maybe he can pay him to have a look at the talent there and pass a good word on our behalf?

Or wait....Estudiantes, Veron, Rojo, Gaich........maybe, just maybe we already did.

If you think that weather doesn't have an impact then think again. I lived in the UK fo4 years and the first year was the toughest of my life. I simply couldn't stand the gloomy winter. We used to return home just to see the sun. Regarding reputation it does matter. Players tend to follow their legends. Bruno himself said that he fell in love with United because of Ronaldo. Also having a former player whom the new player consider as a living legend coming to his home and try and persuade you to sign up with the club helps greatly. Imagine having Sir Bobby or Eric Cantona knocking to your door with a contract in hand as opposed to Woodward or Judge.
