Manchester United reported The Sun, not Ed Woodward.

And have there been any arrests associated with this crime?
And you think Ed Woodward - the CEO - would have absolutely nothing to do with the report? That the club would report it against his wishes, risking this so-called 'PR scam' coming to light? You should apply for the police as you seem to have this nailed down.

What's ed supposed to do , tell the club not to report it? That makes him look even worse.
He has to play the role till the end, like a politician.

Why on earth would Woodward agree to any of this. The upside is minimal, the potential downside is absolutely enormous - if any one of the 20+ idiots he hired to do this, or the Sun journalist who United have issued a formal complaint against, decided to breathe a word of it to anybody, Ed would be finished (and not just at United).

You believe Ed Woodward would have power in this? So you think Ed, who has hired a former Sun employee, who has clearly got guys like Curtis to write good stories about Ed and slander the owners and the club, would have any power in not reporting The Sun?

There's clear discontent between the owners and Ed. There's been multiple stories showing this.

So, any arrests been reported in this crime?

Oh and, were these guys ever proven to be Manchester United supporters?
Why would anybody else attack his house - opposition fans surely love him and want him remaining in post and ruining United, for as long as humanly possible.

Ed though hiring a personal PR guy would be good, clearly back fired.

uhh, that's precisely what he could do. Say he wants to put the experience behind him and no one will question him or tell the press of his decision to do so

As said up thread, the police have more important things to do than plough resources into solving a bit of minor criminal damage. Or did you think they would have gone full CSI and marshalled an army of forensic experts to set up camp at Woodward's house to examine a bit of spray paint and a slightly discoloured lawn.

"So, Neil, how can I get the public on my side?"
"We'll set fire to your house, and then people will feel sorry for you. But - and here's the genius bit - it won't affect their totally negative opinion on your running of Manchester United."
"You're fired, Neil."
"Haha, nice pun."
"No, really...you're fired."

What Infra said. You and red thru&thru are suggesting there are 20+ people involved in this, who haven't mentioned a word about it to anyone and that Woodward is risking The Sun coming out and saying it was a set up, as well as him being charged by the police.

Don't think so but Cheshire Police have said they're investigating. Only so much they can do with limited information.

Failing a Jib anywhere, anyhow
Wonder if all the lads on here who insulted me beyond belief for stating the obvious fancy apologising? Probably not as they’re sat behind their keyboards and Pogba profile pics playing Fifa. Dickheads

I have absolutely no idea what this is referring to, but I enjoyed it all the same.

Limited information? Maybe. But surely The Sun photographer would have taken some pics, which would have instantly showed who the criminals were? Photographer must have been able to take a least a clear of one of the '20-30' criminals? Wouldn't have had to be such a long investigation.

Neil Ashton didn't really help when he announced he was becoming a PR Consultant for Manchester United on the Sunday Supplement

I remember posters getting offended or calling me a conspiracy theorist when I mentioned this all being a PR stunt
How does what you quoted support your position? Woodward going after the Sun, his supposed partners in crime, actually disproves it

Ed doesnt need to know anything, in fact the less he knows the better.

He hired Neil to rehab his image and he doesnt need to micromanage how Neil does that job.
When a CEO tells a underling to get something done, they get it done and no questions are asked.

If Neil Ashton is not smart enough to cover his tracks, he will be the fall guy and Ed will just blame it all on him...just like all successful CEO's do.

The whole situation stinks.

Ashton and Woodward are thick as thieves and everyone bought it.
I’ll appreciate this. I was called all sorts for suggesting it was set up and followed through by the Sun. Wonder how many are humble enough to admit they went too far
Thats the depressing thing to me, not what Neil and Ed are up to. I expect this bullshit from them
The fact that a sizable portion of our fan base believe this is just saddening.

Not only believe it but become overdramatic in their responses. Was like a contest of who could convey being the most shocked and appalled.

There were totally 20+ people there. There were no pictures to prove this but the Sun said so. Must be legit.

So, to be clear, you believe that Neil Ashton, a few weeks into the job he quit journalism for, decided it would be a good idea to hire 20 thugs to attack his boss's house (plus a load of his former colleagues to document it), without seeking permission from his new boss first?

How do you think Ed felt when Ashton came in to his office and admitted to him what he had done. How fecking furious do you think he got.

In recent years virtue signalling has become out of control.
It's true - I myself often resemble a Mickey Mouse clock attached to a catherine wheel.
