Can't see the list on the PDC site and I missed Hearn announcing it.
It’s 9
MVG
Wright
Price
Smith
Gurney
Durrant
Cross
Asp
Anderson

Henderson is playing WK1 and Fallon WK2 the other 7 contenders TBA later this week

Thanks- Durrant the outsider then. It's somewhat cynical for Hearn to get Fallon in as soon as possible, striking while the iron's still relatively hot, but good luck to her.

Tbf it’s a good way of testing the water, if she gets battered in a one off game it doesn’t do damage.

If she was in an entire season and got 0 points that does damage.

Will Jim Williams do what Peter Wright did, survive a match dart in round 1 and go on to win the championship

If there's a nine darter in the BDO I think the world may stop spinning.

To be fair it's not the joke pub standard that some people make out but it doesn't justify televising anymore.

The general consensus seems to be that it needs revamping or replacing and I don't think they can hold off a PDC buyout for much longer.

Barry Hearn will turn it in to a development tour and perhaps use it to expand the women's game too off the back of Fallon Sherrock's success at the Ally Pally.

This is the best thing that can happen because the BDO at present is effectively an amateur establishment, a lot of the members have other jobs and it's just not sustainable especially with the changes this year - losing the iconic venue (and MC) and the low quality of the production/ camera angles (half the time they don't even realise the player is looking down the board towards T19).

And I've always said it makes a mockery of the sport that 2 people get to call themselves World Champion when in reality whoever wins this current tournament probably wouldn't even take a set off Peter Wright or MvG.

Yeah I'm a bit old school and never really understood how there can be two World Champions in darts. Surely whoever wins the PDC title is THE World Champ.

Yes I think that's a fair statement, anyone winning the BDO event calling themselves a World Champion has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Effectively what's stopping us creating a RedCafe tournament and the winner declaring themselves World Champion? No one would take it seriously.

The trouble is the BDO have always considered the PDC a bit of a bully and refused to engage with them, but most of this stems from jealousy.

The game has moved on a lot in the last 20 years and while the PDC has moved with the times the BDO is much more stuck in its ways and realistically has no future.

Any event that sells 80% fewer tickets than predicted is nothing other than a complete failure.

In terms of the dual World Champions this has to stop. There are probably examples elsewhere but it is common sense only one person can be 'the best' so unless there is some sort of unification match (which would be won by the PDC player anyway, of this there is absolutely no doubt) then the BDO will just remain the uncared for sibling of the PDC which continues to grow.

Agreed. I remember one year Taylor played Andy Fordham and was winning 5-2 then Fordham retired due to heat exhaustion. I remember watching it, and despite Fordham being a multi winner of the BDO he was no match for the Power. PDC players are miles better, and I would much rather watch any PDC event than the BDO World Championship.

Even Martin Adams, who has won the BDO event on 3 occasions wouldn't get close to the PDC Final playing at his best.

The only remote exception is Scott Waites at his absolute peak, he won the Grand Slam in 2010 which contains players from both organisations.

I think the crowds say it all, while the PDC are packing out places like Ally Pally, Citywest in Dublin, Winter Gardens in Blackpool and all the arenas for the Premier League, the BDO can't even sell out most sessions of their flagship event.

The rest of their events in terms of attendance are quite frankly embarrassing, they are played in nothing more than leisure centre halls in front of about 20 people.

Aye it's embarrassing like. It's like that famous clip on Youtube of two players having a leg in the BDO Championship and scoring the likes of 5, 7, 3 and so on after each other. Really poor.

Feet up at home.
It sounds like they are going to the wall. They haven't paid the broadcasting company for The Masters yet only saying they hope to pay after the World Championship. Another partner company are reportedly taking legal action as well.

Sounds like they were hoping to sell out not only to fund the prize money but to pay their bills.

Finally catching my first match of the BDO this year. It's pretty watchable- close QF between Waites and Mitchell.

A few things- scoring is fairly low, they're averaging 92/93- mainly for Waites cos his doubling has been so erratic. The commentators were wetting themselves when Waites averaged 102 in one set- remember MVG averaged 121 to win a set in 37 darts versus Wright.
Waites also just messed up 129 with six darts, didn't even get down to a double.

The venue looks like a godawful nightclub, the MC is crap and the camerawork poor, particularly on combo finishes.

Warren got £23k for winning, the lowest since 1989. Can’t see a way back for them after this barring major change.

Jesus, 77% down on the year. He's desperately unlucky and at 57 unlikely to win too much more to help make up for it.
Jim Williams put on social Media that he had to pay 2k in tax and 3k in food accommodation and tickets so ended up with 5k

3k for food and accommodation over a week?! I know it moved to London, but that's still bloody expensive.
Guessing it's probably 9/10 days they stay for, 100-150 a night you'd imagine. Tickets for friends would add up also + travel costs to the venue. 3k probably isn't far off.

That only makes up around half the amount. I'm maybe doing them a disservice by imagining them eating at low end food joints and staying at the Tower Thistle or some such hole.

Sherrock v Durrant tonight. It was going to be a tough draw whatever.

Week 1 was very good with some really interesting matches. Hopefully same again.

Smith threw that win away. Head went, can’t believe how far he was from that double 10.

sherrock done brilliant against durrant! Shocked me. Crowd booing durrant before he even walked out though, hard playing against that
