Andreas Pereira vs Jesse Lingard

EDIT:
What irks me the most is seeing them driving fancy cars, Andreas with his Range Rover and Lingard with his Bentley Bentayga.

I think the Range Rover is probably the club sponsored car. I've seen plenty of players driving the same model.

Lingard has spent an obscene amount of money on cars.

Bentayga is the most expensive SUV in the market.. I'm not jealous, but surely, he should realize that his time at the top is almost over.

Out of the two "greats" here i would only keep Pereira for a couple of reasons. First, he is a more naturally talented player imo and his biggest problem, decision making, can still be improved with time. Second, he still has a bit of time on his hands to improve. Third, Lingard got Raiola as agent; a sign he's most likely been told to find a new club anyway.

Sell Lingard in the summer and if Pereira is still the same next year then he's next.
This.

Pereira's Stats from 35 games:
1 goal (against BHA)
4 assists
Only 17 games playing as AM/RM

Lingard's Stats from 33 games:
2 goals (against minnows)
1 assist
All of them playing as AM/SS/Winger

These are terrible stats, but based on this numbers alone Pereira is a better player right now. I'm surprise some people think we should keep Lingard with his 75k/week over a cheap Pereira.

At least Pereira has an average squad players contract, but keeping Lingard would made Greenwood, McT, and Williams demand 100k/week for their new contract.

I was a strong supporter and believer for these two. I admit, have to lift my hands up on this one, caf is right, they are liabilities to the club.

Bruno came in and reminded us how Scholes used to pass with swagger, other teams can't keep up with that.

I think this is it, Ole totally gave them so many chances to prove themselves, but they have failed. Next summer, Lingard should go, Andreas will have no takers, should be fine squad option.
Season after that, Andreas should go if he still doesn't improve. We can't keep giving them the fame and fortune of Manchester United.

Their cars should be the last thing “irking” you considering what we’ve seen on the pitch this season.

Lingard should go for the sake of his own mental health. I’d give Pereria one more season as a squad player, but only if Ole never plays him
In central midfield again. Just terrible management to keep trying that. Especially if Gomes/Pogba goes, I don’t really see us having a huge amount of cover for that position.

As much as people want to get rid of players, we already have a ridiculously thin squad. Adding three players a year is going to limit who we can sell. Especially if players like Pogba/Gomes, who we clearly don’t want to leave, keep doing so.

Andreas actually makes an effort - he makes a lot of good runs but for some reason it doesn't work out for him with the ball at his feet.

Lingard I have almost given up on - so I would keep Andreas but not Lingard

Sell them both in the summer. Grealish and Bruno replaces them

Pereira is like that FIFA co-op teammate who isn't shite and does the basics well. However, he is always one step behind your play and tries too hard on the ball to impress you. After you give him a talking to, he plays it safe to impress you again and becomes terrified of losing the ball.

I'm sure 95% of us would like us to sell both this summer, along with Mata. Due to Pogba, Matic, Gomes & Chong all looking off in the summer. It'll probably mean 1 of the 3 goes this summer, the other 2 next year to keep our squad numbers up for 2020/21 season.

- Mata is well past his peak but is still capable of something (certainly more than Lingard or Pereira), its just rarer than it used to be so he'd get next season.

- Pereira is the youngest of the 3 and on the lowest wages of the 3, he's hugely ineffective and seems pointless having him on the pitch (personally he makes me rage every time he shoots from distance to kill our attack and gift the opposite a goal kick). For my money one of United worst ever players - Djemba-Djemba looked terrible in a squad with Scholes & Keane...Pereira looks terrible in modern day 2018-2020 Man Utd. At least Lingard has a FA Cup winning goal, Legaue Cup final goal, and winners vs Chelsea & Arsenal on his United CV.

- Lingard has had one of the worst past 14 months of any United player in recent memory (bar Alexis) & shares pretty much the exact same negatives as Pereira, both look destroyed on confidence. He's 27, on higher wages than Pereira, just hired Mino Raiola as his agent which can't have pleased the club, overall it just feels the natural end to Jesse's Man Utd Career. Hopefully we could still get around £20m for him this summer.

It's all a process that will take more than 1 summer, hopefully 2 new CM/CAM's come in this summer and then another 2 next summer and we can all forget about Lingard, Pereira, Mata, Matic & Pogba and look forward to the future with a new look, fresh United squad.

the arrival of Bruno has underlined just how poor both these players are as so called creative midfielders. Brunos stats are already better after 3 games... They have to go in the summer. End off. I’m sorry for Jesse he did well for a couple of years and scored some great goals including the FA cup final winner and played for england but he lost the plot now, hes had plenty of chances too come back and not taken them.

Just because they probably aren't good enough to start for a Manchester United team who wants to challenge for titles it doesn't mean they aren't very good footballers. But ye I agree that I think Andreas should stay as a squad option for now. He works hard and his technical abillities are better than Lingards. He is still fairly young and if he can develop his football brain I think he will be a good squad option for us.

I don't think either deserve to be wearing the jersey. They are just not good enough for Manchester United.

Pereira will probably be saved by virtue of his recently signed long contract and his bigger versatility. He signed till 2023 and I doubt there will be any takers willing to compensate us and pay him a salary anywhere near what we gave him. Like Phil Jones (also contract till 2023) I fear we're stuck with him as a squad player for the forseeable.

Lingard on the other hand is entering his final year and if he wants to be offered a long term contract at a respectable rate somewhere else, he will need to be playing on his final season before becoming free agent. So I'm sure he would take even a loan move somewhere in the summer (with us paying a large part of his salary no doubt) just to put himself on the shop window. One of the newly promoted sides might take him.

Simply put they both aren’t good enough, I thought Pereira was gonna be a good squad option when he turned up for pre-season under Mourinho and did pretty decent.

But I can’t stand Lingard regardless of what people seem to saying are redeeming factors like the FA cup goal and Europa goal or whatever. JLingz and his stupid dances/celebrations are so fecking annoying and obnoxious.

I think Pereira was moved around way too much during his developing years. AM, on the wing, in midfield. Someone mentioned that if he had a wise head mentor he might have turned out to be better, I agree. If he maybe had more time around with Carrick/Scholes/Giggs he could’ve been better imo.

Lingard has a decent football brain but has zero technical ability. I score screamers every now and then when I play and I wasn’t trained by some of the best coaches around nor grow up in one of the best academies around.

Lingard is no longer useful at this level. He needs to leave to preserve the little dignity he has left.

Andreas still has his uses, even if it's being a shithouse in the last 10mins to kill a game.

I am clutching at straws here maybe, but I think Pereira is technically good but didn’t get a chance to fully develop. Having a senior creative midfielder in the squad now will help him model him game properly.
Fill me in where Pereira can play? Mourinho tried him as CMF which he clearly is not. During early days he was used as @10 or RW, As RW he never has the speed nor the mind, although his cross is decent. As #10 he is never going to be as good as Griezmann or even Bruno, so how much time can we give him? IMO Pereira is at best reaching Mata's or Kagawa level due to his physical limitation, so have we seen enough of Mata yet? If he plays at another team he might be good enough, but doesn't fit into our requirement.

How are they "loyal servants"? We are talking about two below average premier league players who have been handsomely remunerated and given playing time that they never should have got.

Tell me about it. Lingard has been getting paid £100k pw since 2017 ffs. No one else would pay him half that. Since when is it "loyalty" sticking with an employer who's paying you more than double what the rest of the market would pay you, while also being shit at your job. It's closer to leeching than it is to loyalty.

We can only dream to be as lucky as these fellas. Never mind feel sorry for them.

Loyal - in absence of less decorative word - in a sense they have not thrown any tantrums, indiscipline, slandering, on/off pitch bad behavior that could hamper club image etc. They are academy products and from player to club relationship point of view i don't think they are bad boys. Yes, talent wise and whether they are at the level we want then resounding no. So when we part company I expext amicably, and good relationship should expect to continue after and beyond their career.

As a previous poster said, the only correct choice here is death.

I honestly can't see a Premier league team which if I were manager, I'd want either of these two in my starting line up above current options, which is a real shocker. Bench at the weaker sides at best I think.

For all Ole's fault however, I think he's got a great eye for squad building (or maybe our perspectives have just been trashed by the last three lunatics who had the reigns). Trust he'll have the remainder of the deadwood out within two seasons, if he survives that long.

If I had to pick one it would be Pereira. He's 3 years younger than Lingard so could still turn into a decent player but unlikely to be good enough for us.

If you include sub appearances then Lingard has appeared for United in more games than Cantona, Kanchelskis, Berbatov, Veron, Van Persie and Tevez. Even players who were quickly discarded as flops such as Kagawa, Mkhitaryan, Memphis showed more than Lingard yet he is still here. Quite easily the worst United player I have ever seen play over 100 games.

Pereira is the worst player in our team. His game is littered with errors both on and off the ball. Lingard is shite but its also clear his confidence is shattered, he's better than what we've seen for the last 18 months. Both have shown Ole beyond reasonable doubt that they are not good enough and should be sold in the summer.

I had some hope for Lingard to be an above average useful kind of player. But alas.
As for Pereira, apart from being a Brazilian, I never understood what the hype was even when he was coming off the youth team.

I think a lot of the hype was created by ... er, Pereira. He used to post constant social media stuff of himself with heroic Cantona-like poses. I think he thinks he is better than he is.
One match commentator remarked that he has good feet, and I think that's his potential strength. I would see him as a younger Mata if he can be improved.
I remember when Van Gaal used to constantly put him on the bench but never played him. Word got out he was grumbling he was just there as the interpreter because he speaks Dutch, French, Portuguese, Spanish and English.

Lingards time is 100% over. He has nothing to offer this club anymore. Go focus on instagram and "influence" our moronic generation of youth instead.

I believe Pereira is a decent player to have in our squad. His problem is his vision and decision making. Takes to much time on the ball because of those reasons. I'm not sure this can be improved enough to make him a good player, but no rush to get rid of him. He can do a decent job vs certain teams. Lingard cannot.

It's not great when you put it like that. He has doubtlessly been allowed slack because he's from the academy, and while that's understandable from the fans' perspective given our affinity for our former youth players, you'd hope the coaches would be quicker to identify when a player has proven themselves unworthy of a starting shirt.

18 months is a really long time.... how can we be sure he is better? Maybe he was better but when you show the same level of performance for 18 months, that is your level.

When Torres signed for Chelsea and wasnt very good anymore nobody said '18 months ago he was really good, that is his level".

Lingard is what he has shown the last 18 months. A terrible player who, based on his qualities as a footballer, shouldnt start for any Premier League team. Pereira had been a better player than Lingard the past 18 months.

Agree with this. I have never rated Pereira at all but he is younger, on a longer contract and cheaper wages than Lingard and just as productive. Keep him around in the squad, and hopefully he will reach a decent enough level where we can sell him for a respectable fee to a lower club in a couple of years.

Lingard needs to go - but I don't know who would take him. Would he do the Italy thing like Young/Smalling?

Some good points on this last page about Pereira being the better player out of him and Lingard, with the latter needing to go asap.

For me Andreas is an energetic player who presses well. But that's about it. His passing is poor and so is his ball retention.

I would go as far as saying that Garner is already a better player than both so the point about keeping Andreas over Lingard as our squad is thin, to me seems stupid. Also, playing Andreas further forward is where he influences the game more but he is not in the same league as Bruno, Rashford, Martial, James or Greenwood. With this in mind he is done here as well. Sell him and Lingard now. Bring in 1 or 2 CM players and give the 'Andreas' minutes to Garner.
This is more than enough to rotate through a season.
DM - Fred, Scott, Matic (1 more season) and Garner
CM/AM - Grealish, Bruno, Pogba. (All 3 can play as part of a front 4, Pogba can play in a 2 man midfield) it would be a balanced and varied midfield.

Offer them both to Villa with cash to get Grealish....

I know these deals never happen but in all honestly they must be worth about 40 million between the pair of them.

I think there s more chance of Perriera staying rather than Lingard.
Perriera showed glimpses of talent even if he s a frustrating to watch - so much technique ruined by bad decisions.
Lingard on the other hand showed nothing. I think it s in his interest if he moves on....as long as he cares more about his footballing career than his off the field ventures
