I don't think he has been on the decline at all. He made a big mistake today, but he also made some very good saves.
Overall, his performances haven't been too bad. I think he isn't in the best form, but he will get back to it soon enough.

He redeemed himself today with some very good saves after the mistake. I understand the concern long term, but today is knee-jerk based on one moment. He had a good game otherwise.

Seriously? He was disgraceful last season, pretty much single-handedly cost us the top four. This season has been an improvement on that but he's still a long way off his best.

Form is something thats temporary.
Decline meaning that he is permanently on his way down, which is what I disagree with.

He has been on the decline for 2 years. If you think form last 5 years, that is up to you. I also believe Alexis has not declined and will be in world class form again after being useless for the past 2 or 3 years.

Not on the decline the guy has been poor for what? Over a year now. The reason we suck at set pieces come from his inability to come off his fecking line. He’s a goalkeeper who is scared of physical contact.

I am intrigued by the fact that we got rid of Emilio Alvarez, who was the Utd goalkeeping coach and specifically DDG’s hand picked coach (based on their time at Atletico) at the same time he signed a new deal

I've seen similar performances from Carroll and Tim Howard where they've made a costly mistake and made some good saves at the end. There's definitely some bias from posters here, he's lost it.

The club had faith he would be back and it was only a blip.Most fans also wanted to keep him. That is not how a football club should make decisions, but then again, we hired Ole when we were in free fall as well. We make decisions based on faith and are surprised if they don't work.
I know the fanbase will be divided on this, because of his god like status in the previous years, but things arent the same anymore.

Anyone who questioned that ridiculous deal was told that he'd earned it with past performances. Well this is what happens when you reward loyalty over form.

I'm now firmly in the camp that says that contract was a massive mistake on our part. I love De Gea and consider it a privilege to have watched him at United during his world class form, but throwing such an obscene contract at him out of pure desperation is costing us dear. We have a great young keeper we should be blooding in, instead he's helping Sheffield United to rival us in the league.
Giving De Gea this bumper contract when he's past his prime by a manager under fire is very similar with what Moyes did with Rooney. Just something to galvanize the fans and get them off his back but it's just set us back in terms of team progression. I don't think a club like bayern would've done this. Heck they're already interested in Deano, with Neuer on the decline. Shows how a proper football club should be run.
He has not been in top form since before the world cup in the summer of 2018. I'm just wondering how long someone has to play poorly before it is no longer just "bad form." We saw these same "bad form" arguments for Alexis and Lingard and at some point you just have to accept that this is now the player that he is.

On topic, De Gea is still a baby in goalkeeper years, but I am worried that someone so reliant on his reflexes will decline quite a bit sooner than what might be average for a keeper. I don't think it's happened yet, but he could very well be in for more of a Casillas type career trajectory rather than the longevity the likes of Van Der Sar and Buffon got, who relied less on pure shot stopping.

Cost us over 50m in CL money with his feck ups last season and he is on his way to do it again while cashing in 300k a week so that will be about 65m this time around. Something needs to give here Ole cannot keep on praising him and continue to play him Romero should get a chance v City.
Apart from a stupid mistake which is nothing to do with his actual ability as a shot stopper, which is what he's known for, he had good game today and us from a certain defeat at the end.
