Why not just let them fight for the jersey. Henderson should be our No2 now, which should mean all domestic cup comps and then pushing DDG for the starting spot. If DDG needs to be dropped, which I think he doesn't really fear currently, Henderson comes in as a PL proven GK. We do tend to overrate our young players probably more at United than anywhere but in this case, Henderson is proven now and has a legitimate argument given DDG's form to be arguing his case to start for us next season. Competition for places is what we need - you can see it's effect on Shaw - when a young guy comes in it lights a fire under the senior player who has become too comfortable in their position, they either get displaced or push on.
He is not proven at Manchester United at all. He needs some games at a big club like united or he needs to be managed brilliant from a mental pov to see if he can settle into our club. We have huge demands regardless of our downfall.

Im beginning to wonder if hes dealing with personal issues that we dont know about.

I got slated a bit for this but honestly, I think he's checked out mentally in general. He's not quite at 'just taking a pay-cheque' level but that's where he's heading. I think he's realised he's never getting his dream move home, his missus has done one without him (so that will be depressing him no doubt), and he's highly likely to be realising that he's wasted essentially the prime of his career at a club that have been massively under-achieving. It must be quite a weird feeling to know that you were once considered the #1 in the world at what you do, yet you've barely won a major honour in your entire career, both international and domestic.

Nobody forced him to sign the contract but I think he's possibly depressed or similar. Just a hunch, of course.

I disagree.

We have a world class goalkeeper, we pay a kings ransom to him. Over the last few years he's been exceptional, a league of his own. He's currently not at that same phenomenal level. We don't dump him - we challenge him.

Bring in Dean Henderson, tell him he's understudy to DDG, tell him to prove in training why he should be picked ahead of DDG and if/when DDG makes a mistake AND Henderson is training at the same level - chuck him in and then force Dave to fight for his place.

We can wing that for a season or two. Ultimately you can't keep 2 excellent keepers, so one will leave; as a club we need to ensure we keep the better goalie.

Also we could do some rotation, play 1 in the League and the other in the cups, like we do with Romero. Give them both game time to prove who's the better keeper.

His new teammate Berge seems to be just a little bit impressed.
Google translated, so the language is a bit broken, but you'll get it:

(...)Same goes for Sander Berge after sharing his wardrobe with him last month.

- He's totally insane. I've never seen such a good keeper. One thing is in matches, he is almost a defense on his own at times, and you feel so much security in him, Berge tells VG.

- But people have to watch him on training. It is totally crazy. He saves balls from one meter. Sometimes I become completely speechless by how good he is. It's like having two keepers in goal with him. He's totally raw.

- He's so confident. He knows he is good and he exploits that too. He is exceptional, he says.
- So you understand why he's talking about him as the first goalkeeper for England and Manchester United?
- I am not at all surprised that this is talked about, Berge says and continues:

- From what I've seen, I definitely think he's England's number one. It is totally amazing to follow him and have him on his team.
Sometimes it can be too much.
- To play against him in training, that's ... you are mentally put out, because he saves all the balls. It's totally sick. I had a training where I was going to set three easy goals, but he just saved everything. It's totally sick, ”says Sander Berge.

If he decides he needs to move this summer for first team football, how much would he be worth?

We usually sell for peanuts

Have you been living under a rock for the past 3 years?
Blind - 16m; Januzaj - 8m; Fellaini - 7m; Johnstone - 7m; Darmian - 3m; Young - 1,5m; Valencia, Herrera - free;
Lukaku - 65m, but that was after paying a bit more for him 2 seasons earlier.

Think we might need to recall him soon if we want to finish above them

And your point here is? So which of those that you think we could have sold for more?

Herrera left on a free transfer and Valencia semi-retired.

Surprisingly you left out Depay 25m and Schneiderlin for 25m

I would love to see that sort of shithousery.

What's stopping us from doing it? Honour? Feck that.
not if he is loaned out for the season without an option to recall him. Pretty sure that is the case, since we wouldn't need him

Aren't we like the second highest team in Europe for clean sheets?

Henderson is having a wonderful season, and today he was phenomenal but Dave has had so many wonderful seasons for us. In an ideal world Henderson gets another year on loan in the Prem next year and then returns to fight for the jersey. Henderson wants to be a United player and he has a big enough chip on his shoulder to fight for it.

Don't get me wrong if someone comes in with a big offer for DDG then sweet, but it's highly unlikely so I will happily keep him between the sticks.

When does it come to the point Henderson doesn’t want to go on loan anymore?

Let him come back and battle it out with De Gea for first place.

No point in worrying about it till it happens. When hes not happy we will just take him back.

And do what exactly? Unless we're willing to bench DDG (which is unlikely given his wages), Hendo will tell us to do one and will find a club willing to give him the #1 jersey.

Incredible.
I'm a pessimist but he shows a good battling character there. He's not picking out worldies from the top corner but he's a proper keeper. I've said it before and I'll say it again, one more season with Sheffield (if they get into Europe even better) then we can phase him in and De Gea out. Used to think Dave was the best in the world but I don't think his heads in it anymore. Top, top keeper but if Henderson is better? It might be time to move on.

it wont be a fair battle. Having him here and then preferring De Gea anyway will be worse.
How will it not? It'll give the manager all the time he needs in training to see who's performing. Not to mention, it's a bit different playing for Sheffield than it is for United. So having two goalkeepers fighting for top spot is absolutely ideal, rather than getting rid of one and gambling on an inexperienced goalkeeper at the very top level where your every move is under the microscope.

He signed a contract not that long ago do i have no idea where you get this from?
Seems a lot of fans are putting their insecurities on Dean. If we recall him we are giving him a fair shot at the starting spot. He cant ask for more than that.

If there was such things as goalkeeper battles, Romero would deserve to start so many more premier league games than he has.

You pick a side here, De Gea and Henderson, and really it has to be Henderson.
Really because Romero has proven that he's a good number 1, has he? Being a confirmed number 2 doesn't carry as much pressure as does with number one. Think people are forgetting how many good goalkeepers we've had since Schmeichel left and VdS joined, yet none of them were anywhere good enough for a a prolonged period of time.

If Sheffield United do get some sort of European football it could be a good way of seeing how he copes with it.

De Gea’s all round game was never that great. Watch a DDG highlight reel and they’re all stunning reaction saves, you won’t see a wide range of goalkeeping disciplines. It’s easy on the eye for the average fan, I suppose. But you never see him marshalling the defence, or dominating his box, for example. He’s hardly ever pulling off those incredible worldies any more. He makes saves that, if we’re being honest, most goalkeepers would expect to make. Don’t get me wrong I love Dave, I just prefer my goalkeepers to have a bit more about them. At this very moment in time, Henderson would be an upgrade. The only question that people keep asking, is can he hack it when the spotlight of Man Utd is on him. And I honestly believe he can.
