In my country, the status of government now instability by virus.

Madness to cancel Europa League games too :houllier::houllier:

No one has cancelled games because of the Influenza virus but the Corona virus makes everyone crazy :houllier:
Ask doctors or nurses in the hospitals and they will tell you the same.
I assume you are on a wind up. But just in case there are people who indeed think like you I can only tell you what I know.

I am a ICU doctor in USA. My colleagues have friends in Spain who have confirmed the disaster in Italy. I know a critical care doc in Norway who has confirmed to me what's going in Italy.

I am in a smaller town in USA. However I fully expect to hit us but I think NY and cali will be hit harder.

Reading this thread makes it blinding obvious how it spreads and I am 99% sure that it involves stupid people, ignorantly ignoring all expert advice because someone they have on Facebook posted an infographic that mocked the state of public concern and provided alternative figures and they chose to accept that over the general medical expect consensus because they think it makes them smarter to know better.
Seriously. Some people should be banned for misinformation in this thread @Niall, honestly.

Flatten the curve. Cancel all large public gatherings now. Start being proactive whilst we still can.

Whoa, whoa.

There is treatment. People are being diagnosed with the virus and are being quarantined and recovering from it. That's been protocol and treatment.
There isn't a vaccine yet, that is very much true.
The mortality rate still isn't as high as the common flu, however this is getting blown out of proportion. It truly is.
Spreads more efficiently yes, because as of now it's pretty potent in how it spreads which is bodily fluids and close contact or close confines with an infected person
You're a legit idiot and people like you should be banned from spreading misinformation as you're part of the fecking problem and the reason so many other idiots are acting the way they are.

How am I an idiot and how am I enabling people to be idiots? Please do tell.

Are there people asking to give zero fecks to containment protocols because in a closely knit world, there will never be 100% containment?

The PL can be suspended until further notice like some concerts/shows have been suspended until the fall (Coachella, Stagecoach). But I personally fail to see why teams cannot play behind closed doors and if everyone who is essential to the production of games (fans not included) are deemed healthy, then play can go on.

The PL and FA have a duty to protect the fans from themselves if they cannot protect themselves from one another. It's never ideal to see empty stadiums, but everybody has to adjust to the changing situation.

Whatever the PL decide to do, then okay. We live with it and go on until further notice. There are more important things than congregating to watch football in-person knowing that someone could be infected without knowing or just ignored health protocol.

Any act that slows the spread is not in itself an act worth taking. There is a cost and there are disbenefits to everything. This is the point we were making to @Pogue Mahone. The difference in the R rate between:
  • people living their normal lives (working, travelling, socialising, educating etc) + subjecting the population to public health best practice + attending 'low risk' football matches
  • people living their normal lives (working, travelling, socialising, educating etc) + subjecting the population to public health best practice + closing all 'low risk' football matches
is negligible.

Pretty much this. Compared to everything else that involves large amounts of people in close proximity, I’m not sure how postponing outside football matches where the virus is less likely to thrive actually helps .

More of an action to make it look like a government is taking action

Eh...tell that to the people who are unnecessarily hoarding toilet paper, masks, hand sanitizer, etc. That's panic, if not irrational actions caused by irrational fear.
Oh I get you now. I agree. those people are complete morons. I thought you were talking about posters on this forum. For the most part, it's been sensible on here.

Because then all the fana will go down the local and watch it. If the game is played sky will still show it and fans will still watch.

Maybe the government should force pubs to close too? That way people won’t be going if the matches do get played behind closed doors.

If / when it gets serious, most people won't be going out at all, voluntarily. Will see hospitals overflowing with the sick and not enough intensive care beds and won't want to be joining in.

Football going to be the least of our concerns.

The only way it might work, is show all the games free to air on TV, so make there less need to go to a pub. The only alternative after that would be shut the pubs when games are on. Make it attractive to sponsors to advertise on each of the games to compensate the clubs for loss of matchday income. They may have to compensate the pubs as well.

But again, that's self-governing and fans not being sensible. Yeah, I get that it's been tradition for decades and generations to watch football every weekend. But watch it from home, listen to it on the radio at home. Also, if you're sick...understand what your illness is through self-care or go to hospital. Fine. But then ignoring that and going to public settings is bullshit. As far as I know, England is not a Tier 3 or Tier 2 country in terms of countries you shouldn't be visiting.

They have to do it at this point. I don't give a shit if it means the season gets re-started and we're not in the CL next season.

If you know you're sick you mean. The evidence out there suggests, that people don't know they're contagious and spreading the virus for a good 4-5 days. The less reasons people have to go out, and gather and crowds - the more control we'll have over this.

Surely now it’s been confirmed as a pandemic by the WHO, they surely need to cancel the season. There is no other viable solution.

Right, if you know you're sick. Especially with the virus. People are sick with a cold and can still do what they need to do because they don't have the Covid symptoms nor have they been diagnosed.

Just baffling and inexcusable that the medical worker in New Hampshire for example, in the US, was told to stay home due to showing symptoms then they didn't comply and well...

"When an employee of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire showed signs of possible coronavirus last week, a medical worker who had examined him told him to avoid contact with others, pending further tests. Instead, he went to a mixer at a crowded music venue.

Three days later, he was confirmed as the state’s first coronavirus case."

It's like, what in the feck man.

I can’t stand this modern era of overreaction. Now in Krakow, everything is closed except bars and restaurants. I’m now stuck here for 4 days and all the tourist attractions are closed. 25 people have got the virus in Poland, 25!!! Wtf is wrong with people these days.

Back in the good old days people would have just carried on, but now these millennials are all weak!!!!!! white bloody text

every piece of evidence points to this being an unavoidable healthcare catastrophe. If ever there was a time to completely overreact, it’s now, so fall in line and hope for the best but absolutely prepare for the worst because the experts aren’t lying, it’s going to be really, really bad.

What the hell! What a massive overreaction from the Polish/Chinese/Italian/Korean governments and the organisation in charge of maintaining health. If only people were rational and level headed like you, a tourist who wants a beer.

In fairness it's because number of cases can rapidly increase and overwhelm the health system, which is what has happened in Italy. So they try and slow it down.

People with this mindset are the reason this virus has spread worldwide in the 1st place.

Travelling to countries affected with no concern for others, just because there are only 25 reported cases doesn't mean that that's all there is.

This virus is much more easily spread and much more lethal than the general flu. These lock downs and travel bans should've come into place over a month ago.

It was so obvious that it was bad when China were locking down millions of people but governments in the west didn't take advantage of the head start they had and so here we are.
