Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been moved to intensive care in hospital after his coronavirus symptoms "worsened", Downing Street has said. A spokesman said he was moved on the advice of his medical team and was receiving "excellent care". Mr Johnson has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to deputise "where necessary", the spokesman added. The prime minister, 55, was admitted to hospital in London with "persistent symptoms" on Sunday evening.

All discussion about Boris and his plight here please. Also please try to keep negative comments to a minimum and respectful. It's ok to disagree with his politics but he is an expectant father and has people who love and care for him, as well as many supporters. So let's be mindful.

Regardless of your thoughts on the man himself, it's quite a significant moment in the saga of this disease that one of the most prominent world leaders ends up in ICU as a result of it.

why do people keep going on about him being an expectant father, this is a man who refuses to say how many children he already has, has been publicly called out on being a shitty father by one of the children that he recognises and cheated on every spouse and girlfriend we know about

it's sad when people die, but boris's paternal instincts will remain the same regardless his pulse

Have you never heard of life-changing experiences. Why don't you give the man a chance and see what happens before stating your fachts

and why is no one else fecking livid with him and advisors right now? the prime minister of this country might be about to die and they've done everything possible to downplay how bad this is, we shouldn't be finding out these details so late and they shouldn't be sugarcoated, we're in the middle of a major health crisis this isn't the time for PR exercises and appearing tough

this man might die, he should have resigned days ago.

A hypothetical life changing experience granting him some sort of epiphany shouldn't really excuse all the shitty things he's already done in the past.

He's too fat and was too irresponsible in his personal approach to the virus (choosing to shake people's hands). He should take better care of himself if and when gets over it.

He's going to remain fat and will be even unhealthier going forward. He needs to resign from the post.

Why would he resign? He’s expecting and hoping to live, why would he resign....just to come back to the post a few weeks later when it turned out he didn’t die.
Makes absolutely zero sense

he has an unknown number of born babies with his mistresses and exes who he wasn't seeing to begin with, i have no reason to think he'll be a better father going forward

you have already been reported. I suggest you have a look at your self in the mirror and take some time to reconsider your own perspective on life.

I feel sad when anyone is struck by a severe illness or death, but less so for people who have campaigned much for their lives for policies that are detrimental to the unfortunate. I do wish Boris a speedy recovery though.

He's fat, in an extremely stressful job right now and has a virus that causes heart failure and unknown long term effects. We can't have that leading the country through a crisis. This is fecking outrageous, this isn't the middle ages where we can have inbred crippled kings and a conveyor belt of sociopaths doing the job for them. We need someone healthy enough to see us through the crisis.

This thread isn't going well already. I don't care about other people's opinions about him at the moment and I would have thought this isn't the thread to discuss his shortcomings.

All the best to Boris and his family during this difficult time.

Funny how this is now the line trotted out by the majority of the members including mods, yet no one seemed to care to discuss Kobe Bryant's shortcomings in his very own RIP thread hours after he died.

Best wishes to him. I hope and think he will recover, no news is good news at the moment isn’t it? As I understand deterioration is quite rapid from this stage.

I hope he recovers from this and comes back to make the speech of his life about just how horrific this virus is, because it looks like for many in Britain it still hasn't hit home.

Deterioration is rapid, and if he survives it's going to take some time for him to even slightly recover. Recovery in this case being "oh thank feck he's not going to die" then we're planning on throwing him back into an extremely stressful job where his heart is going to fecking pop, this is mental.

He's not the only person in the Government, there's a whole Cabinet and a Civil Service. There's a line of experienced politicians who can step up, whether you like them or not. You ought to be careful what you wish for.

Being fat doesn't rule you out of having a successful career. Johnson was healthy enough to do his job until he became unhealthy, which applies to all of us. Hope he recovers from this, what he does afterwards is a whole different matter.

But what do you want? A thread full of "I hope he recovers" posts?

Personally I have no trouble with people bringing up someone's past for the sake of discussion.

I wish nothing but the best for him and that he recovers fully. This virus is awful and I personally felt sick last night at the news. It impacted me more than I thought.

However, I know people (only vaguely) who have had people they love and care for reduced to nothing and they blame the Tories. I would never wish death on anyone, and I personally don’t think the Tories are malicious and have the countries best interest at heart, but I certainly see why some people are responding negatively to the news. When these people are posting about wishing death on Boris I think it is inappropriate and wish they would refrain, but I can also see where a lot of hurt and anger is coming from.

Fair enough

For what it's worth I think everyone is entitled to their opinion but sometimes it's better to say nothing at all if you can't say anything nice. Still, stood out to me how differently the mods reacted to negative posts about Boris than they did to Kobe 2 months ago.

It was the same when Bush 41 passed away as well - although that was basically just one or two posters.

He's going to need months off work even if he recovers over next week. No sane Doctor will tell him just to go straight back into the most stressful post around for foreseeable future.

Also family will be more important considering his latest kid will be due in a few months (he deserves to make it for that).

I agree the virus will likely cause complications a few years down the line but let's focus on the present.

And to be fair, nobody has actually siad they hope he doesn't recover. Obviously we all want him to recover, but that doesn't mean it's not worth discussing his shortcomings in all this.

As I mentioned in the other thread, he's had pneumonia before, which could cause problems now.

The problem is, we are now on day 12 after he went into isolation.

Thi sis why the WHO recommend 14 days and his governments 7 day version is irresponsible.

Hancock may not have symptoms any more, but there is every chance the virus is still active.
