Is it worth it given that? I have a couple of massive books on the shelf I want to read and I want to finally tackle Crime and Punishment and David Copperfield, which have been gathering dust for years.
That's a lot of time wasted if it wasn't. I was able to experience a hundred different voices, stories, perspectives in the year. The target kept me motivated and I found the reading itself an enriching experience, even if I decided to postpone the reading of Proust to this year.

Fair point- I can imagine myself getting bogged down in Dickens. Ugh, Proust's In Search of Lost Time is 4,215 pages.

Loved it.

From the entire list, the three authors I discovered in the last year that I absolutely love are Marias, Krasznahorkai and Can Xue.

Your Face Tomorrow is a wonderful psychological novel and I have heard good things about his others. Definitely check him out!
I've been digging out some recommendations from both this and the wider books thread. With Krasznahorkai, I keep seeing him described as a 'difficult' or challenging' read. Does his density of prose and rejection of punctuation at times enhance or detract from his work? I've ordered Satantango to see what I think anyway. The Melancholy of Resistance is £27 on Amazon and £28 on World of Books!

I just started Mason & Dixon, that's going to set me back several weeks.

You're telling me - I can't even pronounce his name! :D
