That’s a damn good question dude. My guess is she wants to drive public schools down to the point of almost collapsing and then leave them in place in that state to accomplish a form of segregation. The poor that can’t afford private school will be the only ones left in public schools.
So, the evil scenario. I actually wouldn't put it past her, either.
“There are only two things I can't stand in this world: People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.”
Hey, now! Guess I have to jump in as a (former? part-time? whatever?) Dutchy....
Haven't seen that movie in ages. Nevertheless, sounds like your average Belgian person. We love to hate the Dutch. Holland is a great country, with mostly nice people but there is a rivalry that will always remain. Dutch have the same with Germans.
Totally off-topic, but something I wonder about: do Belgians make any difference between different part of the Netherlands? (Not 'Holland', damn it!) I grew up in the south (hence the 'not Holland'), and I often feel more connected to Flanders (more so than Wallonia I guess) than NL 'above the rivers'. In fact, my grand-parents used to watch the Belgian king's speeches (like at Christmas) instead of the Dutch queen's, cause she meant nothing to them. I wonder if that would make any sense to Belgians.
Second line of the Dutch national anthem:
ben ik, van Duitsen bloed, (I am of german blood)
That's why I always vote for Johan Cruyff as the second best german footballer of all time....
But we are getting offtopic.
[nerd] Except 'Duitsen' at that time meant something else than 'German'. It's actually the same word as 'Dutch'; hence you'll find references to the languages 'Low Dutch' (Dutch) and 'High Dutch' (German) in Gulliver's Travels. [/nerd]
Not that that's common knowledge in the Netherlands, and the anthem also has a beautiful line about always having honoured the king of Spain. Actually, come to think of it, change that with Russia, and it could be about Trump - I'm sure he'd love his own paean as the new American anthem!
