Jesse is a man that cares deeply about his Manchester United career. We know that becaue he's revealed a lot about his family history and how he got to where he is and his emotional process during the way.
We know that he's had family struggles this season that's affected him in a negative way and he finally manned up and told the manager what was the probable reason for his lack of form. To be fair that probably took a lot of courage to admit to someone that your house is hurting. Lingard is taking care of both his siblings and his own child since his mother is very sick. His grandfather has prostate cancer and the two are very close (ref: the Players Tribune).

I think Jesse has played his part here and should find a new club, but there is not a mean bone in his body so why don't the ones who can't seem to be able to, look yourself in the mirror and reflect on what gives you the right to berate someone for simply being a out of form football player?

It's more than fair to criticize the on pitch performance, but I've seen some posts in the other threads on here that I don't wan to be remotely assosicated with.

To put some nuance to this whole "Only cares about his brand" bullshit I'm seeing some of you post:

Here is a handful of young men from Manchester United visiting a lifelong Manchester United fan who passed away from cancer 45 minutes after meeting players from his favorite team back in 2016. - https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...-wish-45-minutes-before-he-died-a7308676.html - It was Jesse Lingard that took initiative to do this after his cousin told him about it. It takes more than a bit of a character to visit a dying man you don't know on his deathbed.

So you know, we can all choose to remind ourselves that Jesse is actually a great young man that's having some real hurt in his life these days. Or we can go "bUt JLinzSs" like we are dumber than grass that thinks people only have two things going on in their lives.
What amazes me is how easily our fans can get brainwashed by PR.
Look at the way he behaves and performs outside of these PR stunts. He needs to leave, like yesterday and that 100k per week can go to someone who deserves the badge.

Age wise, he's closer to Matic than he is to Rashford. The greatest trick he pulled is to hang with the younger lads to mask his inconsistencies. He needs to go to a place like Palace or West Ham where he can play regularly.

Pretty sure you could write sad stories for most footballers because almost all people had tough times in their lives. I've seen stories about Pogba, Valencia, etc. And most successful footballers have done good things to their communities as well. Which is very good. What I don't get is what makes Lingard so different that we are not allowed to talk bad about him outside of football (for the things that could have an impact on his development as a football player)? is it because he's a local, academy lad? other players get so much stick for so little e.g Dan James. At this point, it's hard to defend Lingard. And however you look at it, he's certainly made a mistake related to his career as a footballer, otherwise Ole would not have put him on his last chance. He does not deserve the personal abuse he receives on twitter. But it does seem like he had a period of thinking that he's made it (the digital proofs were there for all of us to see), which I think is the main reason why his brand got criticized by some of the posters here. And that's okay. You can do good things and make mistakes, get praised for one and get criticized for another.

You answered your own question in your own post.

Personal attacks are for losers, criticizing actions is fair as long as its based in reality.

Well put, thank you for that. All he’s done wrong is not be a great fotballer, and that should be that. I hope he get’s a good move and finds happiness in the sport again.

Okay, out of curiosity. How do you define reality?

If I criticize Pogba for choosing an agent that seems like a nuisance to his ManUtd career. And I have several proofs to back it up, regardless of Pogba's actual opinion on Raiola. Is that a personal attack or criticizing an action? my point is, all of us don't really know what's the reality behind a footballer's life. We read news, that's it. It could be that in reality, Pogba really likes Raiola, a complete opposite of how fans think. Even if the action of keeping him as an agent looks bad, talking bad about Raiola could actually be a personal attack to Pogba.

There's no reality unless if we can be 100% sure of it. For example if you are Lingard's relative. On a forum, we criticize something based on what we see and hear. And that is okay. The theory that Lingard's focus on branding for a short while could have had an impact on his ManUtd career is fair. Whether or not that is a reality, we don't know. And it is okay for having an opinion. I hope he can find a better place to develop his career.

If we could get rid of 4 out of Alexis Smalling Jones Andreas and Lingard that would be fantastic.

Be delighted to see the back of them all and we'd surely get atleast 40+ mil if we sold them.

He is the ultimate legend for us, and here the ultimate tribute to his majesterial prowess!

Brilliant. Ole at the beginning. He runs, he works hard, he is less on social media. That sums him up as a PLAYER haah

His behaviour on social media and performances on the pitch have been painful to hear and watch and covered extensively on this forum over the last few years. But you post some PR boosting charity work he does and an orchestrated sob story about how much he supposedly loves the club and some people get taken in by it.
Big Pete's interview on MUTV has also been covered in another thread where he's clearly referring to Lingard as the person that's only here to boost his profile. The club don't broadcast those kind of interviews without good reason.

Perhaps brainwashed was the wrong word. Then again there seem to be posters that believe it's their duty to defend certain players unconditionally regardless of how they behave or perform.

Seems like. He has only played 3 games in 2020. Hopefully that is because Ole has realized that he isn’t worth any playing time. I really hope we can find a buyer and sell him for a descent fee. He is still brutish and would definitely improve some of the bottom to middle positioned teams in the league.

The reasonable starting point is common sense.

A few comments that i've seen on here that are outright lies and only fabrications over a comple misunderstaning of reality:

"Lingard is only here to milk money from the club"
"He only cares about his brand"
And a number of other comments that basically labels him as a leech, loser and worse.

That is all abusive, pointless, fabircated lies. Like, what does it contribute to anything to go on personal attacks like that?

Here: i wrote a short post about Jesse's company yesterday and detail why it is not a time consuming engagement: https://www.redcafe.net/threads/sch...is-personal-brand.456046/page-6#post-25717426

Fact of the matter is that we have a footballer who has a young child and two siblings living with him, and 2 very close relatives who are very sick. The notion that a very small company is the culprit to latch onto is just so out there that I feel sorry for anyone that still clings to that idea, as if it's something inappropriate, after existing for two years. Ask any parent: What takes more time: Your toddler and sick mother, or your micro startup company that is run by someone else?

If I were to tell you that most young men on social media are dumbasses, would you believe me? Thing is that me and my friends certainly acted like absolute donkeys when we were that age, only difference is that we didnt have social media to share it on. You're watching a young person to young person stuff, it's a nothingburger from start to finish.

Considering that it was the family of the deceased fan that contacted the media outlets and told them about the players visiting their family, perhaps you should calm the cynical train a little bit, eh?

The Players Tribune is a very in depth and interesting place to read stories written by the players themselves. Its their pen that writes the article, not anyone else. If you want to not believe anything of it, that's on you, but I feel a bit sorry for you if your stance is to not believe anything and be negative about everything.

You're reading into the interview as if its a sanctioned attack on Lingard by the club. They broadcast Peters view on the transformation that's happene with Ole during his tenure here. I don't mind Peter sharing his opinion, like I don't mind that he played for Manchester City, or that his opinion is one observed from Denmark and hearsay.

I don't really mind criticism of the players performance, but I do mind harassment and bullying. The first one is fair, the other one is for losers and assholes.

I hope he leaves for his own good. If he manages to revive his purple patch he can be an asset to any mid table club.

I have nothing against Lingard. He's had his moments for us, and I like to see local lads getting their chance with us. That said, he's clearly shown he's not up to the standard required and should be moved on.

Ole has been impressively ruthless in a short space of time. Lukaku, Sanchez, Herrera, Fellaini, Young, Valencia, Smalling, Rojo and Darmien have all been shipped out since the end of last season, with those on loan showing few signs of being welcomed back. I fully expect Lingard to get shipped out this summer too, and him being frozen out of the squad now backs that idea up. Add in the rumoured losses of Jones and Mata, and that is a seriously refreshing amount of deadwood to lose in the space of just over a year. Nice to have a manager who understands what the required standard is at United, and isnt afraid to put up with a little short term pain if it means long term improvement.

I always find it a bit funny that People here thought Ole was a yes-man and too Nice. We are talking about a guy who spent years playing With and being respected by Roy Keane. If you play 7-8 Seasons with Keane, you can be ruthless.
I told you guys here that Ole wasn't a yes man and that he had seriously good man management skills. That comes from a player who played for him at Molde, said that Ole was the best manager he had ever played for. He is turning out to be a bit like the player he was. Silent and deadly.

I used to like him but not I cannot stand him. I can't wait for him to get gone out of this football club.

Question is: Which club is going to be crazy enough to take him on with his wages?

All fair points. I think now we're in a better position as a team we should find it easy as a fanbase to rise above childishness and nastiness. It's clear he has no future as a United player, and when the team was in a rut and Lingard was making no impact whatsoever it was hard not to get exasperated at him, but now we should certainly be able to take the high road and wish him well in the rest of his career

The cynicism is well founded. Why write these kinds of stories if you're not looking for attention, pity and a free pass, what other purpose is it serving. You're basically saying I know I don't deserve to be here but what if I write this, can I stay anyway.

I think the bolded parts of your post sum things up quite well. This kind of pushing of tribal identity annoys me quite frankly. Pete has done infinitely more for this club on and off the pitch compared to Lingard but is talked about as the Danish guy, like it makes him less of a United player than Lingard. Pete is a club ambassador and that role means you communicate on behalf of the club. His opinions given in an MUTV interview are the club's opinions, anyone who works in media will know this.

It's absolutely fair to criticize his behaviour when he's posting that kind of behaviour on social media for everyone to comment on and react to. There are insults that are unrelated and personal which I think anyone on here would agree are disgusting but let's not conflate criticisms of his behavior with personal insults, they're two different things.

If a player brought in from abroad posted the kind of things that Lingard did there would be outrage, especially in the media and no doubt they'd be gone by now. It's not racism, or even nationalism I don't think, but it's blatant prejudice. Does that view make me woke then?

My mates a West Ham fan and he said he'd rather get relegated than sign Lingard & Jones from us. I believe him.
Well with the bottom of the table as it is, your unfortunate mate may get both!

Lindgard -- hard to understand where it all went wrong but it surely has. He seems so lightweight in games now when a couple of years back he was a justifiable England regular. I'll trust Ole on this -- if he feels it's time for Jesse to move on, so be it but if he thinks there's a player still in there who can add some value, I won't be unhappy.

1 year. 365 days. 52 weeks.

Without a goal or assist as an attacking midfielder. Unheard of.

Add to that all his nonsense with social media and his on 'JLingz' brand. Can't wait to see him gone. He sums up everything that been wrong at the club for a long time.
This. Add in the fact he has at least 3 or 4 poor first touches in each match he plays means his days at a good club are over. We should acknowledge, though, he did have a few decent seasons here and was important for England at one tournament.

Less than a year left on the contract? Yeah he's gone

Don't understand the animosity. Still struggling with the stupid theory that his brand disrupted his form.

Wish him the best, never had an issue with him personally. Maybe he'll get a new lease of life at a Everton or Southampton or in the Bundesliga?
Agree with this. As shit as he’s become, I’ve never cared at all about his off the field activities. He can do as he likes.

No white text? The video of him on the bus says a lot about Lingard.
But a video of him on the bus, the timing of his brand release, his tweets and snap chat stories are non football related and as apparent as it is that they could have a negative influence on how he sees his football and could affect his ManUtd career, off the field is off the field!

Don't you dare judging Lingard! criticize him for when he runs on the field and nothing more.

You know he is a whole human being right? Not just a footballer. I have a job and I have business interests too. If he wants to start a clothing brand, then start a clothing brand. Why should he not be an entrepreneur?

Fans are too entitled. They want 360 control and input into how a footballer who plays for their team lives. There has never been any reports about Jesse not training properly, not taking fitness seriously or the like. Outside of that, I’m not sure why everyone feels so entitled to a say on another human beings interests.

When I was over for the palace game a few years ago Lingard took the time to go to hotel football after the game to celebrate with the fans, and bought everyone a round.
He has also done a lot of charity, like most footballers.
A short video of him on the bus acting like a kid amongst many doesn't erase the good he does and has done.

Having childish humor doesn't make you an awful person.

I've already criticized his timing to promote his brand in this very thread and I haven't been impressed with his humor or style in general, but that doesn't make him into a bad person.
The good he has done off field has clearly been more impactful than the shit he has done.

Thought this sounded familiar. Fair play OP.
I’m not sure what you’re talking about .

On a serious note you’re the only one that noticed:wenger:

He’s been through a lot with his family I’ll give him that. I actually he finds a bit of form with another club.

There’s absolutely no shame in not being as good as Bruno Fernandes and that’s his replacement more or less. He’s played many times for the club he grew up at. Hes made a lot of money. He’s won stuff. He won’t be the first player who came through and failed to keep up with uniteds high standards and he won’t be the last. More talented players have done far less here than Jesse. He can be proud of that. I hope he gets going again at a new club. Hard facts his level after his drop off is not good enough for top 6. He’s not worth the wages he is on. Only he can do anything to change that and it looks like he’s eventually run out of chances here. He can’t say the club didn’t try their best with him.
