Explain?

A young English lad with flair who's one of the most skilled playmakers in the world at 20 years old ticks every box for a club like United to me on top of being mates with a lot of our players.

When someone is putting up Messi like numbers with 20 goals and 20 assists a season, I'm pretty convinced they'd make our young attack that much better
Numbers are fine, as they tend to be for better than average players in the Bundasliga. I’m sure he’s a good player. I’ve just not seen him have a Worldie performance with my own eyes like I had with Ronaldo and Rooney had at his age.

Then there’s little things like how he refused to train for city. Don’t know. Sure he’s a fine player. It doesn't scream to me as a match though. Sorry.

How can you go through life( I mean football things only as I don't know you personally) and be pessimistic about things you should be excited about. Even if it doesn't work out, be excited for the moment because at the end of the day that's all you can do.
If we signed him I would be excited. When did I say I wouldn’t? I’m allowed to think there are better options or think that someone doesn’t belong at a certain club, or fit into the culture of a club.

Sancho benched Pulisic at Dortmund though.
Hayden Mullins benched Mascherano. I can’t judge things from that.

Assumed this transfer has been done for a while now, not sure why there is a ton of discussion on this still (not a saga). Have already moved onto worrying about what players can be brought in to strengthen other areas.

That's very deluded point.

Mascherano was benched because he hasn't adapted in the league & new country.

What's excuse you wanna give on Pulisic? He was their regular player prior Sancho breakthrough to first team, Sancho breakthrough into first team and he benched Pulisic. I'll take it back if you can give me good excuse for Pulisic.

Can see it dragging til late September.

As I’ve said before, I wouldn’t mind switching targets. Something about this doesn’t excite me
May I ask why? I can’t think of a more exciting and perfect signing for the RW spot that we have abandoned for a decade.

I know the drawn out nature of transfers is tedious but there isn’t a more ‘exciting’ option for RW than this lad.
If you're not excited by Sancho joining us you're a bit dead inside.
See I feel like Sancho belongs with those names. Like the perfect united signing.
Wow. Sancho screams United player to me

Fair to say you are on your own on this one.

The player I want above anyone else. Don't care if he is our only singing.

Well firstly Mullins benching Mascherano wasn’t a direct comparison. It was me saying I’m not judging any player for being benched.

Secondly I would question your logic behind “Sancho benched him” - briefly looking at Dortmund’s last season, Pulisic appears to start every match he wasn’t injured. And benched occasionally when returning from injury. He started 5 times in a row for Dortmund before leaving Dortmund. You don’t start your last 5 matches if someone is “benching” you. So maybe a little research was needed.

Thirdly I would question why you care about my opinion so much. It doesn’t matter. If you’re certain Sancho will be a success for United, if he signs, then you needn’t worry what a mortal like me thinks

The point is that Sancho was Dortmund regular one in 18/19 while Pulisic wasn't. I don't know what so hard for you to understand from my logic. It's very clear that Sancho was the better player, produced better numbers when at Dortmund and one played more regular while the other one sat on the bench more.

The reason why I replied to your post is because your logic doesn't make any sense if you think Pulisic is a United player but not Sancho, a player who was actually the better player when they both were in the same club. This is a forum, I have a reason to question your logic while you have the right thing to give me a response to counter it.

Absolutely no chance it happens if they don't reduce their demands imo. Given our losses, debt and the covid situation, not even we would be able to justify spending that much. Especially on one player. The credit we've pulled out will be used to account for potentially further losses due to covid. Lot of uncertainty in the whole world at the moment, would be extremely risky to blow such a large sum on a single player.

Okay well from actual football matches I’ve sat and watched, Pulisic has been the better player from what I have personally seen.

In 3 years Sancho could be lifting the Balón D’or with Real Madrid and Pulisic could be getting shafted from Chelsea to Brentford and I’ll look a bit silly. But as of right now I can only go by what I have seen.

If they’re both PL players next season then hopefully I can get a clearer picture

We wouldn`t be going such extra miles if there wasn`t any willingness to pay a little over the odds and fees are rarely paid up front installments and add ons will be used like Dembele`s deal(96m plus 44m add ons) Sancho`s fee is 108m so we`re looking at 70-80m up front which a club our size pandemic or no pandemic can surely afford.
Also about the loan you`d imagine if we don`t get CL is when a lot of that money will be used to indeed cover losses but if we do qualify and maybe win a trophy it will be mostly for transfers.

I agree with you and would just add that the same issues will be even more acutely felt by Dortmund.

we certainly won’t make an offer until we have secured the financial opportunities that CL qualification provides.

And after that this will be also become a negotiation of brinksmanship and last tip latter stages of transfer window, when one side will blink first. Probably Dortmund as they will also need to spend some of the transfer fee to replace Sancho.

I don't know what Pulisic you are watching. It's just weird isn't it that Pulisic has been the better player to you but Dortmund manager didn't think so and the stats number at Dortmund also tells you Sancho was & is much superior.

If you judged Pulisic based on Chelsea alone then rather than calling him as United player, he's more of a Lampard's player.

I'm not 100% sure on Sancho at a £100m+ fee, for multiple reasons:

1) He is right footed, so in modern football if he really wanted to hit his ceiling he'd be better cutting in from Rashford's position. He's very good on the RW, but the benefits of a left footed player there goes without saying.
2) I think he might struggle a bit with the pace of the PL and the tighter defenses. When Dortmund played Tottenham in the CL he looked really poor.

Don't get me wrong I've watched him since his first half-season breakthrough at Dortmund and think he has a super high ceiling, but he's not there yet. For £100m+ it's a pretty big risk especially when money's tighter in a post-Corona world. Also both Kagawa and Mkhitaryan struggling here after good numbers at Dortmund make me a little weary about Dortmund players.

One player that's really impressed me this season is Maximin for Newcastle. He's not technically as gifted as Sancho, but he dribbles with pace and power and has end product. At around £40m-£50m I'd be tempted to go with him instead.

Well clearly they going to get it wrong this time with Stone, since I really doubt this will be wrapped up in 1 weeks time.
It's more a case of it being at a stage where it's just final details being ironed out and we're 99% of it happening. It'll probably be ready for announcement by the time we've played Leicester.

I don't trust the Muppetiers fully yet since there's so many frauds out there, but as far as our recent successful transfer sagas go, this is following our playbook to a tee in terms of journo reports and briefs and their info has seemed correct so far. If Sancho happens the way they've said, they're going to be looking like the real deal.

Yeah but I don’t care what that Dortmund manager thought.

Mourinho kept Rashford and Martial benched for Lukaku and Sanchez. I know who I thought were the better players.

The stats arguments coming up a lot from you which makes me question how much you’ve actually sat and watched Sancho play football matches and not just highlights.

Like I’ve said, quite honestly, I’ve only seen Sancho a handful of times but he’s never blown me away. I’m allowed that opinion based on what I’ve seen of him.

Pulisic is a player I like a lot and rate a lot. Based on the live football matches I’ve seen

I'd actually argue the reason we are going the extra miles is because we are unwilling to pay what they want. Also, the instalment system makes sense, but from what I remember, Dortmund prefer the majority of the money upfront with their transfers.

It's not about whether we can afford it. It's about whether or not the club is willing to take such a financial risk in such uncertain times.

I agree with you and would just add that the same issues will be even more acutely felt by Dortmund.

Which is fair, but Dortmund TBF to them, never really have difficulty selling players. I do think (hope?) we will manage to negotiate a lower fee with them, because I don't see anyone, apart from maybe the state backed clubs, willing to spend such sums on a player in this current climate. People arguing that prices will return to normal in x years are missing the point. You pay what the current market demands.

Well in the case of Lukaku, he was older and less technically gifted than Rashford and Martial. Sanchez was older so had no room to grow. His stats were inferior to Martial and Rashford's.

In Sancho's case, he was younger, more technically gifted, and had better stats than Pulisic.

You are just making a point there about Mourinho. So Lukaku & Sanchez are Mourinho's player. The same goes to Pulisic, he's Lampard's player. Being certain manager's player doesn't make the player is United player.

The most fair point to compare Pulisic & Sancho is if we look at when they were at Dortmund because both players played under the same manager & around the same players. Who's the better player at that time, Sancho. Who's the better player now? Sancho. Who will play better under Ole & United, no one can give clear answer but Ole wants Sancho and so far the manager's signing been spot on.

Us not making CL will make a lot less obvious
Really dont think we have used a year or so bringing in Sancho, dealing with Dortmund, withdrawn £140 m from a credit line, set up all the legal and financial work, negotiated with agents, did background checks etc etc, just for us to suddenly pull the plug if we lose a game of football against Leicester City and/or West Ham.

If it was really CL contigent we wouldnt have heard anything from tier 1 sources before CL spots was concluded. Not to
mention Fabrizio has more or less said it only needed time, like a month ago when we were even worse off.

I think we'll be less frustrating next season on the basis that we'll have more depth this season and a RW that's better than James.

I think Martial and Rashford have showed maturity and consistency this season and I expect more from them.
We will be fine.

I'm a big Sancho fan and believer but I understand the concerns about Sancho's right footedness/coming from a league that can inflate attacking player's numbers. But the Saint-Maximin comment is bizarre for me. I've been watching Newcastle all season and I think an Everton type club is his top level. Spending 50 million on him would be insanity.

Sure, Bruce's horrendously negative system does no attacking players favors, but ASM has 3 goals and 5 assists in the league this season. 3 of those assists came in one game against a horrendous Bournemouth a few weeks ago. The guy is very exciting to watch in what is mostly a poor team and is a talented ball carrier but he really doesn't have end product. He's 3 years older than Sancho as well.

Sancho's stand-out attribute for his age isn't his dribbling (even though it is fantastic), there are tons of flair dribblers out there that look great in YouTube compilations bursting by and nutmegging players. What's most impressive is Sancho's decision-making combined with elite vision. He makes the right choice at a much higher rate than any other young creative players, it's one of the reasons he gets so many easy looking assists. Stats are far from everything but for attacking players they're important, and Sancho's G+A numbers at his age are in a very select group in the past two decades across the top 5 leagues. With so many wingers out there increasingly focused on goalscoring, a creative talent like Sancho is extremely rare and would add another dimension to our attack with explosive finishers like Martial and Rashford. Goals win games, and he'd go a long way in creating more chances for us.

Here's a question to put the cat among the pigeons;

If Sancho does sign who's the best of our front 4 then? Sancho? Rashford? Martial? Greenwood?

Currently I would say Sancho has been the better player, or played to a higher level but it’s close.

Give it a year and I’m confident Greenwood will leave the pack behind.

Once we made CL this transfer will go a lot quicker. Too much uncertainty at the moment as us not making CL will be a massive hit for us financially.

I think it'll be done quick because Dortmund won't want it to drag, because they'll want to crack on with their own plans in the transfer market.

I really hope this isn't another situation where we negotiate all transfer window only to eventually pay full price at the end of it.

Like Gary Neville said, the earlier we get this deal done the less chance another big club could come in at the last minute and pinch him.

Announce him as soon as possible and move on to the next target

You might want to check the financial implications of (a) not qualifying for CL and (b) the pandemic we are experiencing at the moment before considering it a done deal.

Maximin would easily have 10+ assists this season if either Joelinton or Almiron could finish. He sets up a lot but not many of the chances get finished.

I do agree that Sancho has exceptional decision making and vision - I would caveat it though with the point that defenses in Bundesliga in general aren't as compact as they are in the PL.

The reason you need someone who can dribble and beat a man, is because against compact defenses being a good passer of the ball isn't enough. You need to be able to beat a defender from a standing start. All top teams have these players - your Mane/Salahs, Sterling/Sane, Son, Messi, Neymar etc.

It's hard to really speculate how Sancho will translate his skill set in the PL - he does have an exceptional tough and close control - but Kagawa and Mkhitaryan also looked a lot better for Dortmund. It's one of those that's just conjecture really until it happens and it plays out. A bit like Pulisics current form at Chelsea or Bruno who was relatively not as highly regarded due to playing in a weaker league and then obviously has been great.

The reason I mention Maximin because 1) He'd be cheaper 2) Hes shown that he can consistently beat defenders in the PL - he reminds me a bit of Mane with the spring he has in his step. But if we did fork out the £100m for Sancho I wouldn't complain - we've been dying for a RW for about 10 years now and he'd definitely improve us.

It's very close. I'd say Sancho > Rashford > Martial > Greenwood. In reality though the best out of the 4 would be shuffling

I don't think so. Martial is going to be 25 and his game has really matured. Rashford also has added some maturity to his game and decision making. Our midfield of Bruno Pogba and Matic is experienced also
