The best thing Leeds have ever done was beat Arsenal in 99 to help us win the league.

Always had a soft spot for Hasslebaink because of that

I never forget in 1981 when Bill Shankly had passed way and there was a minute's silence at OT observed by all our supporters.

The whole of the Leeds end and their supporters chanted all the way through it - scum fans !

I can still name that Leeds side that beat us to the league in 92......such was the mental scars burnt into my mind from losing the league to them.

Would be funny if the game at theirs is still BCD.
All those years obsessing to play us and they can't be there for it.

I imagine they will do quite well when they come up mind.

I don't like Leeds much but I'm pleased they're back in the Premier League, brings back a bit of a rivalry for us
Let's just hope this current crop of young players know what it means to play Leeds!

Interesting to have them back. Now just need Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday back in the Prem...

Love that there's a team that can unite everyone in sheer hatred

I'm guessing we'll be in for some tough games against a newly promoted side which isn't ideal.

We are their main rivals. They are very much like Bolton. One of those strange clubs that hate us despite the fact that we don't share a City & have never really had a rivalry.

Of course we are their main rivals. But from a purely practical purpose, they will serve to give us some tonight fixtures against one of the newly promoted sides.

I absolutely despise Leeds to be honest, the only Leeds fans I've encountered have been pretty scummy. I don't see it as a rivalry at all, like they do, I just think they're a terrible group of people.

When I was at Uni down in Brighton I worked as a steward to make a bit of extra money. The stadium was new at the time, and both Leeds and Brighton were in the championship. They were by far the worst group of fans we hosted, even more so than Palace and Millwall, they'd absolutely destroy the away end and cause no end of grief for the staff.

They deserved their years in the wilderness for being an absolutely classless club, followed by an army of shit house cnuts. And, in my opinion, the PL is worse off having them back.

Leeds can feck off. Delighted we get to see Bielsa in the Premier League though. Long overdue.

They can be a pretty horrible fanbase, second only to the likes of Millwall and Stoke, but they just replaced City as our second biggest rival in the league. I will look forward to playing them almost as much as the Liverpool games, especially as my last memories were of regularly spanking them in the league, but I dont think many in the team or the media will know how deep the rivalry runs until theyve seen the crowd for the first time.

Shoot me but I'm glad they're back up. As much as I despise them and their fans, I do miss our heated games and it was always sweet beating them at their cesspit. Much rather that than grinding away at pointless shitholes like Burnley.

I’m happy about their promotion purely for entertainment reasons as it augments the Premier League is terms of passion and spectacle again. I think the league has missed these fiery games where it feels like the whole world is on your shoulders while you watch your gladiators go out into battle in the lions den. Will never forget going to Elland Road as a 12 year old boy and being scarred for life at the virulent hatred felt around the ground and the city. With the loss of Wenger’s Arsenal and Mour’s early Chelsea, I haven’t really felt that level of stake in a match for years. I think Leeds being back will give it that old injection of excitement and furore again, not just for us but for a lot of other teams as well. Leeds carry a lot of baggage.

One thing that I am hoping somebody here can elucidate: why are Leeds such a big club in the eyes of the media and footballing world? People talk about their history, but they are no where near other teams in terms of honours. Pretty sure Sunderland and Newcastle both have more cups than them in their history. Both them and Huddersfield have three domestic league trophies each. So what is all the history stuff about? Don Revvie only won one title didn’t he? The way that era is talked about, you would think that Leeds had dominated the 70s like Liverpool in the 80s and United In the 90s.

I think because they were always there in the top during late 60s and 70s and then in the 90s -they spent the 80s mostly in the 2nd Division. Unlike Blackburn, they remained a top side for a whole decade after winning the league in the 90s till 2002. I have to look for it, but i recall there was a stat that until they were relegated they had one of the highest percentages of win ratio in the 1st Division and the PL.

Even for people in the age group of 25-35 (like myself), we witnessed a Leeds competing for the Champions League.

I can also say that at least for Greece, they had many supporters because they played a European Cup winner's final in Thessaloniki in 1973 against Milan. People in the crowd felt that the referee was clearly favoriting Milan, so many developed a soft spot for them. By the way, that referee was later banned for life because of match fixing.

im working with a young lad around 21 yrs old, so he naturally doesnt get the rivalry at all. Today the conversation went

'Yeah Leeds snatched the league from us the year before our 1st premier league' - 'oh right'

' Cantona was playing for them, he helped them win the league' - 'Wait, what, Cantona played for Leeds!?'

'yep, after he won Leeds the league we bought him for one million pounds ' WE BOUGHT ERIC CANTONA FROM LEEDS FOR A MILLION POUNDS!?'

He couldnt fathom it at all

Then i realised im old :D

I was 9 when they got relegated and I always said that the hate that older fans have for them and the rivalry in general never really rubbed off on me.

But I find myself genuinely fuming and disgusted at their promotion. A seed must've somehow been planted in me at some stage early doors.

The PL became too nice. I hope Leeds spices things up a bit.

Nó doubting that. I remember when Matt Busby died. There was a minutes silence to be observed at all games that week.
It was observed everywhere but at Ewood Park where Leeds were playing Blackburn. The Leeds scum chanted throughout the minute even with Leeds players making "shut the fcuk up" gestures at them.
Pond life.

Definitely this.

A club that should have been consigned to the dustbin of history.

It’s an old rivalry. I hope both sets of fans can leave the worst aspects of it in the past or it won’t end well for either club in the modern game.

Question for older fans or whoever wants to answer it. Which rivalry was bigger, Liverpool or Leeds? And how did Leeds rivalry started anyway?

This is one that I don't really feel, for obvious reasons given my age, although I obviously know it's a strong rivalry. It'll be interesting to see if it ignites in the generation of fans that hasn't really dealt with this rivalry before.

I'm not surprised they're bellends though. I love Leeds as a city, but Yorkshire is still pretty backwards, so I can only imagine what the worst of their fans are like.
