Worth noting the age difference.
Depay was 21 I guess when he joined. Had really serious attitude problems, seems like he still has them but now at least he is performing.
J-lingz, well If he had the exposure at 20, he would have done similar things. Since he got success late in his career so he is doing all those things which probably he would have done at the age of 18 or 19. I guess it's about the priorities.
Well, the point I am trying to make is that, if the attention grabbing thing is in your head then it's in your head and will likely remain there. Very few people can manage this. Ronaldo comes to my mind who has done it successfully. Anyone else?
I hope he can manage all that because he certainly is a talent

Not sure about that: Sancho's greatest attribute (imo), beyond his skills and technical ability is how quickly he sees the pitch, reads and reacts to the opposition and his team-mates and pings off them like he's sending sonar - as long as he's interacting with players who have good-excellent one and two touch themselves and a quick enough mind to see the potential of the play that can unfold, Sancho and whoever it is won't get in each other's way, but will instead use each other as foils and dummies.

I'm expecting Fernandes to be in his element pinging balls into, and receiving balls, from Sancho. Same goes for Martial.

It's just imperative they get a good pre-season in to iron out the kinks and get a feel for each other's movements and preferences.
Aren't you describing excellent coaching there? Isn't that more of a Dortmund thing - why our signings generally flop from there, once they come from a well coached team to our 'make it up on the spot' brand of football.

We don't really have much of a choice. Dortmund playing hardball and Woodward under pressure to get deals done early considering his unfortunate reputation for dithering.
Doubt Woodward cares about that last part.

If Sancho was a Manchester United academy player that left and City is trying to buy him for 100M pounds, the entire media focus will be on how the United academy failed, and there will be inside reports on how some young players are having doubts and planning to leave and some will even have detailed financial reports on how the club has underspent on the academy.

But since it's Manchester City and Pep, not a word will be said on how a prospect like Sancho ended up at Manchester United.

I hope if we sign him, it won't affect Greenwood improvement, he is IMO our best finisher.

If we sign Sancho and still finish on or around 66 points for the 3rd season in a row next season then I'm fully on board with the idea that we're just cursed or that Fergie sold his soul to the devil for the dominance he achieved

This is an amazing signing if it happens. I don't believe we should have had as bad a season as we had points wise, but there can be absolutely no excuses anymore.
Do you think one player will make the difference? We had Ronaldo for a couple of finals and yet lost to Barca. It will take more than Sancho to overtake City and Liverpool.

If you look at the impact Bruno had coming in, you could very well argue that in some cases one player can absolutely make a difference.

I do think Sancho can have a similar impact on our team that Bruno had too.

Edit: even with Sancho, I still think we'll be short compared to city and liverpool. But it's a step in the right direction.

How are our rivals fans reacting to this transfer? Are they being sour as usual or they concede defeat right from the start that we are a more financially stable club?

Player growth and stability will make us the better team in the long run.

Apart from United and Chelsea, who has the development up and running? City and Liverpool at its peak/decline, we're on upwards trajectory, and won't be long before we become a force again.

Around Europe? Think all of the elite club at its peak, we're preparing to take over.

You'll always see the same reactions from opposing fans on Twitter. "They're paying how much? He's getting paid how much?"

The salt is very much real, and it tastes delicious.

In fairness we all know he won't get a lot of minutes ahead of Sancho but he can be a very useful impact sub and we shouldn't just disregard him.

Plus, as I've said in other threads, I'd like to see Greenwood rotating for that no 9 spot with Martial next season for periods (in addition to getting minutes from RW again.) Martial had a good season but I think Greenwood over the course of a season could have eclipsed his goal tally, even at his young age and more importantly I want him being coached as a thoroughbred no 9 not some winger-hybrid-forward of which we have many.

It's great to have so many rotational options in the forward areas.
Greenwood has talent and time on his side, I don't understand this need to throw him out there as a 9 where the requirements to play at this level are more difficult than how he's been brought up so far. Martial is more than just scoring goals for us right now, he brings other into the game and he absorbs physical contacts in a fashion that Greenwood may not just be ready for just yet.
His time will come, what's the rush ?

We do have a choice as there are other players available. Nevertheless signing Sancho makes sense even at these prices.

a- its what Ole wants
b- its what the fans want
c- Sancho can play across the entire forward line. That means there will be less need for us to buy backup players

But more importantly he makes financial sense

Have you ever wondered why someone as skint as Sir Alex was would break the bank for certain players? Usually they were young players with a huge resale value and who were preferably British. That's because the marketing potential for such players is ridiculously high and the risk of them showing the middle finger to the club and leave is small. United will turn Sancho in a money making beast that will last for more then a decade. Once covid ends the guy will pay off that fee in a year or two AT MAX.

Once we've signed Sancho then we'll have on our hands the three most exciting England's forwards (Sancho, Greenwood and Rashford). All three of them are young, they are exciting, they are at the cusp of being WC and will serve United for a decade. Add Martial, Pogba, Maguire and Bruno in the mix and we've got a squad that is incredibly marketable and will attract sponsors like bees are attracted to honey.

I reality, which transfers have happened that are actually cheaper with Covid. We will pay in installments and this transfer is an example of how he transfer market will be like. Installments rather than cheaper unless the club is desperate.
That's nothing new and it has nothing to do with Covid most transfers have element of Installments paying complete fee upfront has always been an exception not the rule.

And it actually makes sense from footballing perspective as well.

Ruhr Nachrichten which is a outlet local to BVB and extremely reliable are saying, if I'm not mistaken, that a decision is close.

Good point, that's always the risk when buying players from well functioning team, especially #10s. I hope this guy has individual quality to make it on the wing as that's what we're missing we're fine through the middle.

I still think he has some serious problem with his attitude. Always putting himself on the limelight, trying to be a star even if he didn't perform.

I can't remember a single player who came to United who thinks he is a mega star like Depay, good riddance to be honest.

I guess he thinks he will get to play for United again untill now...but no chance.

We may have had Ronaldo but Barca had Messi who was better than Ronaldo by that season and also had Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Dani Alves and Busquets who were all the best in the world in their respective positions.

Look at the difference Fernandes made to us last season, we’d definitely not have made Champions League next season if he hadn’t signed and he basically transformed us. Sometimes all it takes is one player to spark it all off like Cantona, Yorke, Ronaldo in 2006, Fernandes and maybe now Sancho.

Very good point indeed.

Young, good looking, silky style, a youtube hero, British. Sancho would definitely be a walking money printing machine. Of course only if he doesn't flop. Hope not. However I've already a good name just in case. Sanchok.

Watched depay play against Marseille last year. his decision making that night convinced me that he will never make it at a giant European club.

No buy-back clause from Manchester City?
Of course no mate.

City didn't sell Sancho, he left on a free. It was quite a mess and City had to threaten Dortmund to court. So Dortmund paid them a few millions of consolidation fee. End story.

Amen to that. It will really be a dream for any company trying to boost its UK sales to have those three wearing their logo.

Let's not get carried away, have a quick look at the current league table.

Hopefully we are on an upward trend, but it's early days to start predicting world domination.

They do. They get 15% of the profit Dortmund make on him (so will likely get around 10-15 million pounds when all is said and done). He didn't leave for free like some have said, City sold him for £ 8 million

It's not like purchasing Sancho is going to strengthen our rivals with the money from transfer fee sell-on's. . . No amount of money holds any relevance at all to City. it's just City fans trying to make it seem like this transfer has some sort of positive for them, when in reality, money is the least of all positive's when it comes to them.

Great point. Just imagine the media hysteria if it was the other way around.
But Saint Pep can do no wrong and if he lets somebody go without a chance for recouping him, its for all the right reasons.

Why would Dortmund agree to that in the first place? His contract was running out, it seems like a bad negotiation to me if you include a sell-on clause. All I have read about is this 'first refusal' option but that's it.

There was no Pogba no Martial no Bruno and limited Greenwood at that point though , he was relying on the likes of Lingard and James and Pereira for creativity.

Of course he struggled! Anybody would.
Rashford just isn't a CF, you take away all the positive parts of his game by asking him to play there and accentuate his weaknesses

Not far enough
I know there are solid reasons behind it both commercial and footballing. But buying Sancho for 8million and flogging him for 100million 3 years later before his 20th birthday seems ridiculous to me and an unhealthy system. Like Dembele bought for 15million from Rennes and flogged a year later for 105million at 20yearsold.

I don't at all have a problem with the idea of feeder clubs that develop young talent but I find the situation with Dortmund absurd and I look forward to their bluff being called at some stage with these huge price tages. It smells like a ponzi scheme to me and if enough big clubs get burned on their deals then the big big transfers stop and the young player - agent business model goes kaput. Now I will admit that Dortmund are doing a supeb'ish job so far but this idea of pumping out a generational talent every 2 seasons (based on price tag) is grating on me. They better hope that Sancho turns into a superstar otherwise that might be the last big money exit for a while. Haaland is of coure their next cash cow. Rant over. Apologies.
Why do you find it ridiculous, cynical or unhealthy? They are acting like a talent funnel for the industry. Is it only envy on your side?

Every way I look at it, it is pure business. You buy something, add value, sell with margin.
