EL W Europa League Quarter-Final

Manchester United 1:0 FC Copenhagen

Post-match discussion

Mon, 10 August 2020

Started slow but dominated the match as it progressed.

Cutting edge not there today. We lacked a bit of luck and obviously their keeper had one of those days!

We got better and really showed our superior fitness in extra time. Encouraging. We didn't gas out at the end and Martial was superb in the key moments.

Very stressful... But decent-ish performance second half onwards and good win

Their GK was the clear MOTM.

Have to be better in the next 2 games, but we are through which is all that matters.

You guys are off it. You're not going to win every game 4-0. Keeper and post made it a lot closer than the scoreline suggests.

Was a good game.

Job done. Would have won 3 or 4-0 but for world class defending and goalkeeping by Copenhagen. Didn't need extra time but the match stats tonight speak for themselves.

Should have been a much easier night. Utd were actually ok after the 30/35th min they began to settle and started to attack coming up to end of the 1st. Then mixture of bad finishing and keeper heroics in the 2nd half and for extra time saved them for a bit if a hammering

Need some perspective on the game tonight.

We were poor in the first half. Williams got turned inside out a few times and Rashford was particularly off the boil, but

- two goals disallowed;
- denied a clear penalty;
- hit the woodwork 3/4 times;
- 14 shots on target;
- their keeper made at least 3 wonder saves.

On another night we’d have scored 6. We definitely made hard work of it, but fine margins between a 1-0 and us running away with it.

Toys will be thrown out of the pram as per the norm on here, but it was just one of those nights. Was actually a decent performance in the end. Their keeper set a EL saves record with 13 saves; whilst we didn’t even concede a single shot on target. We also hit the woodwork multiple times and had a pen + two goals narrowly chalked off for offside. It was an absolute miracle that they lost only by a single goal, but it actually made it a great game.

No moaning about having to play extra time. Wolves and Sevilla only play tomorrow.

Lacking that ruthless edge we had during that great run of games. Back to being wasteful and a bit lackadaisical up front.

Seemed to be a lack of sharpness throughout and it showed in the final third, but only their keeper and the post stopped it being a cricket score.

Still, result all that matters! Bring on the semi

Professional display. Their keeper has the record of most saves in 1 EL game today, 4 balls off the post and 2 offside goals disallowed. Says it all. Feck the moaning.

I don't like Pogba that deep. His game relies mostly on out-strengthening the oponnent to make some space for a pass. He has little impact on the game, yet can produce a couple of great passes when given time on the ball.

I'd give Fred some games I his position as he impressed me today.

Also, Matic is twice the player Carrick has ever been.
:lol: . Carrick was different kind of midfielder and was atleast as good as Matic if not better.

Nearly 130 minutes of football and they didn't manager a shot on target. We hit the post 4 times and their keeper put in the best goalkeeping performance we've seen against us this season. It wasn't impressive by any stretch of the imagination, but let's be honest, we should've won by significantly more.

Hard work because we couldnt finish. Zeka at the end asking Ole and Bruno to sign him up. :lol:

Ole: There are no good saves, only poor finishing

So looks like it was a game full of poor finishing all the way. Martial, Rashford, Bruno, Pogba all just dreadful with finishing.

The sort of game people get all excited about if the ball hits the net (as it should have done about five times).

Cue whinging, of course. I only watched from the second half onwards but there was plenty of positive, attacking football on display. Just a shame we were hilariously wasteful and came up against a motivated keeper.

Not sure why people are grouchy over it. Copenhagen came to play and were a good side. We could have easily scored up to 5 or even 6 goals, but just didn't take the chances. We're in the semi finals. fecking get in

Job done. We'll need to start better in the next round or we're going home, but we improved throughout the game and could have had many goals on another day. Onwards to the semi.

Funny game. Poor first half and we looked hot and tired throughout. Equally, we battered them. Tonnes of shots on target, hit the post four times and their goalkeeper was playing superman in net. 3-0 wouldn’t have flattered us, 0-0 wouldn’t have flattered them. Weird.

Very hot, against a team that beat the Turkish champions 3-0. Hit the post a few times and could and should have scored earlier.
Rashford was very wasteful but felt like an okay team performance under difficult circumstances.
On to the final four, hoping for Sevilla.

Their keeper was brilliant but our finishing was dreadful, we should’ve scored about 3 or 4.

Had it not been for an absolutely world class, all time great European performance by their keeper and stupid luck, we'd have been in the semis by 4 or 5 goals, and no one would be moaning.

The result in no way reflects our level of performance. We were just fine second half onwards.

Poor for the most part, it was fun when they mostly ran out of steam and for about 10 minutes at extra time it was just their keeper making great saves but we should have been much more dominant earlier and shouldn't have been dragged to extra time (we really didn't create chances of quality in the 90 minutes, they probably had the clearer openings until extra time).

It's difficult to see us getting to the final, never mind winning it, unless we can find a performance level that hasn't been there for a sizeable number of games.

Copenhagen played really really well. Their goalkeeper MOTM

Don't care about performance, just the win and we have a semi to look forward to. Job done.

Players could do with learning the offside rule, 2 goals and a penalty, would have made for a much more comfortable night

What game were you lot watching? Loved that, we got better as the game went on and their keeper was hilarious

Bad tactical setup and Rashford was awful. Fix those and we'd be OK
