No such thing in football. The only unsung heros that are there are those that don't play on the pitch. If a player is an unsung hero he's probably not that good.
Unsung hero is generally used for the players who are extremely valuable to your team but don’t get the limelight. I wouldn’t agree that it means they aren’t very good.

For instance someone like Kante was an unsung hero in the Leciester team when Mahrez and Vardy were getting all the plaudits. In fact I remember that season that hardly anyone noticed him in the first half of the season until leciester started looking like serious contenders after Christmas at which point analysts started highlighting Kante’s contributions as well.

Davies definitely isn’t overrated.
He dominates games from LB.

Building a team for just 1 season or for dominance over the next 5 years? If it's just current best XI, then I'd go:

Alisson
TAA - Ramos - Van Dijk - Robertson
De Bruyne - Kimmich - Kroos
Messi - Lewandowski - Ronaldo
If I'm going aged 27 or under and build for dominance over the next 5 years pretty much, would go:

Alisson
TAA - Varane - Laporte - Robertson
Havertz - Kimmich - De Jong
Mbappe - Martial - Sancho

Not exactly the best, but if I am the manager I’d want to build my team for future (at least for next 5 years), so I probably won’t buy anyone well older than 30. So no Ronaldo, Messi, Lewandowski for me.

I have such a hard time keeping Ronaldo out, but he's at a point in his career that in order to get the best out of him you have to build your team around him. It will work, but you need a lot of support players to make it happen. For example, Lewandowski would come out and Benzema would go in (tried, tested and proven partnership). I'm also amazed at how many people pick Ramos. Nothing like having a defender who can't defend. But who am I to say. I'm sure many will have a laugh at me picking one of our own in the back 4 despite his stats this year showing he was better than the other guy I picked to partner him...

Sickening to have to put that many Liverpool players in there.

Pogba in the current world-eleven is a joke of the highest order.

Seeing the line ups here, world XI is pretty gash compared to past.

If this thread was made in 2001, you'd have

Buffon
Cafu Nesta Cannavaro R.Carlos
Vieira Nedved
Del Piero Zidane
Ronaldo Henry

Shoulder and neck ahead imo

The lack of Neymar in some of these teams make me question the sanity of many people here.

He is PSG's best player by a significant margin

People seriously putting Fernandes? Honestly baffles the mind. He’s a great player but he is not the 2nd best no. 8 in the world.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
who would be the XI that you would go out and buy today?
Not current best 11.
433

Greenwood Haaland Mbappe
Havertz McT
Verratti
Robertson VVD Varane TAA
Lafont
XI that is geared for long-term domination.
Attack is obvious. Midfield is balance, McT there obviously to add physical and help defense especially FBs. Defense is good but open and risky to an extent with the FBs. Keeper is potential. Prefer Shaw or Tierney and Laporte, but their injury records are concerning. CB standards nowadays are low, not much selections, have to choose the strongest.

EDIT: Maybe Davies at LB instead, but I haven't seen him play enough.

Comes pretty close to mine. Maybe:

Ter Stegen for Oblak
Ramos for Alaba
Kroos for Kimmich

Oblak/MaTS <- debatable, Oblak is the better shot stopper, MaTS the better footballer

TAA VVD Alaba Davies <- don't see neither TAA nor Davies on the same level as Alves, Lahm, Marcelo or even Carvajal yet, but there are currently no truly world class fullbacks
Kimmich Fabinho KdB <- same goes for Kimmich/Fabinho. KdB would've been world class any era
Messi Lewa Neymar <- still not sure if Lewa can deliver against the big guys finally and even think that a fit and inform Agüero could easily be on the same level currently

Interesting how many are struggling with the midfield anchor position. I would still have Kante I think.

Just asking.
Why is Davies a popular name here?
Is he seriously that good?
He's a brilliant talent. Yes hes still young and a lot to learn, but I have no doubts he will be the best left back in the world in the next couple of years. Incredibly hard to get past. I've never seen someone recover as quick as he does. I would not be surprised if he was recorded to be faster than Mbappe. This kid is insanely quick. He's actually a winger converted into a left back. He's been running the whole of the left side for Bayern on his own this season.

@Zehner @Chief123 Cheers.

Interesting young player. Best current most promising LB seemingly. Think I'll watch a few Bayern full games.
After Sancho, Davies would be the next player I would want us to sign. Probably impossible as Bayern would want an insane fee. But having Davies in your team, he has the energy and stamina to defend and attack on his own down the left side.
