Seeing Puyol and Suarez tweet what they have it certainly looks to me like an open revolt to get Bartomeu to step down. He does and Messi stays.

I see a bunch of people mentioning Tom Brady and comparing the situations. As an American who closely follows the NFL, this situation is way different. Brady is nearly 45 years old and way past his best. His list of suitors was tiny. Messi is still arguably the best in the world and will have a long queue of suitors. Brady essentially fell into the Glazers' lap. They didn't beat out 10 other teams by a massive show of ambition like they'd need to do here with Messi.
As an American who also closely follows the NFL, I would say that you don't actually understand American football if you think Brady can't take a team to the Super Bowl still. Watch this video so that you can learn a thing or two: .

Tampa Bay were hardly thought to be the primary landing spot until right before Brady announced.

Sign messi this year and not sign anyone for the next 2 years

Sign 3 middle/high tier players within this window and build a great squad

What would we do
Sign Messi, feck everything else. Chelsea will just sign them first anyway.

Wouldn't it totally upset the wage structure of one player is getting 3 times more then anyone else?

I know he's the best player ever, but still, he can get away with it at Barca cos he is a club legend and basically is Barcelona... Other clubs don't have that luxury.
What wage structure. Who in our current squad can complain that messi is getting a million so I want at least half that much.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the Glazers decided to pay for this one themselves. This is Messi we’re talking about.

It's interesting those reports from Spain came out a few hours ago about United being in for Messi then it all comes out about him officially asking to leave.

A man can dream.
Yep. The timing is to good to be a coincidence. Not just that he will leave, not just to England but to Man Utd specifically and dismissing PSG and Cheaty. They know something.

Apparently Koeman told Suarez by phone call his services aren't required and Suarez is also furious that the president never communicated anything with him. Messi is good friends with Suarez, it was clearly a factor in his decision and not a shock tbh

PSG or Italy next for him

Tampa has a great set-up for Brady for step in though. Even with Winston, they were a major offensive threat. Their O-line is oretty solid and receivers top notch. The defence is good too.

It’s one hell of a dream isn’t it? But man, if I could actually see Messi in a United shirt working his magic, I don’t think there’s anything in world football right now that would excite me more.

Didn't say he couldn't take a team to the SB. Just said he's way past his best. Which he is. He had by far his worst ever season and their team was completely carried by their defense. He can win in TB becasue they'll be loaded with weapons for him.

Anyways, no more Brady chat derailing this thread from me.

Can we please stop saying he will go man City or psg. Let's just pretend at least and enjoy the next few days before he obviously has a 'shocking' change of heart and decides to stay at Barca

If he goes, it has to be PSG to link up with his mate?

Neymar-Messi-Mbappe

ADM Back into midfield with Veratti and Marquinhos.

I can definitely see them going for it and reaping the rewards of a boost in profile. Not to mention the fact that he can sit out minor league games whenever he feels the need to.
Neymar/Messi swap deal seems realistic, although if Messi legally wins the case to walk away anything could happen

All said and done. I wouldn't want Messi in United. I'd much rather we sign Ronaldo back than sign Messi.

But most importantly, we need to sign young promising players like Sancho, Upamecano, who can lead the team forward in next 4,5 years. Not just a filler for couple of seasons.

I can't see Messi coming to the PL. If he did, I can only see him going to City to link up with Pep again. Ed would cream in his pants at the prospect of signing Messi but we would need to break the wage record to get him at United and I don't think it's worth it for 1-2 years. He's still got it but not the player he used to be. I think he'll get a new contract as he seemingly does every year. If he does move, it will be to Italy I reckon. I'd rather we sign Sancho and have a player coming into his prime years for the next decade.

I feel like this is a stroke of luck for Barcelona. They got Messi's best year's now they can get him off the wage bill. While getting another team spending huge money on a past prime declining Messi.

Barcelona had to move on from Messi at some point and it's better its now before he is completely past it.

Indeed. Now they can do a clean rebuild around Griezmann, Coutinho, and maybe Dembele. I wouldn't be surprised if Bartomeu and Messi both leaves and the club starts from scratch. Its a good thing in the long run.

Sancho has been a smoke screen for Messi all along.
The ultimate smokescreen. Woody had it planned out all along. Sancho transfer news and the Harry Maguire fiasco, all to distract everyone from the fact that he’s bringing Messi to United:drool:

I hate this feeling as a Ronaldo fan, but its still fecking Messi, even if he is 33!

What are the chances he pulls a Sanchez with us though :nervous: We will forever be known as the club who fecked up the "GOAT".

It would be kind of sad to see Messi & Barca's relationship end this way...

....But I would love to see him in a United shirt

I’m genuinely surprised you’re not more excited. Is it that crazy to think that united would sign him? In my mind you’re the next most likely destination after City, ahead of Paris.
I'm excited, but not because I think he''ll join United. I'm hoping Barca implode, and United are amongst those that regain a seat at the table.
