I really like what club have done here with a long contract. But I can't understand wages we are paying. Not taking anything from Henderson but that money? In other hand, with DeGea earnings, Henderson is right in wanting big money. Should mean, if everything goes to plan, that DeGea is in his last season.

Thsts surely the plan. If Henderson becomes number1 he’s on £120000 and will prob get a rise to £180000 and we offload de gea on £350000+

Should have been sold for a decent fee if we’re not selling DDG. The management of this club are a total shambles.

Competition for places is ALWAYS a good thing. It's why we so desperately need new players
I agree with outfield players, but you're not going to sub a keeper unless injured, and I don't see it working out having some kind of platoon system, where they alternate starts. And if money is an issue with regard to transfers, then how do we justify this?

Why should he get a rise? He just signed a very lucrative and long contract to simply sit on the bench, I think any future rises should have been factored into an insane salary he’ll be earning at the minute.

That may still happen. Him leaving on a free would be a total shambles

I would gladly accept no fee if it means 375k a week saved in wages, there would be very few clubs willing to take his wages let alone pay a fee on top of that.

I still think it's very possible that De Gea wakes up and holds onto the job for another five years. I just don't buy that such an incredible keeper is a lost cause
DDG hasn’t been an incredible for 2 years now, how long will it be before people let go of the ‘he used to be WC’. His prime has gone and he isn’t that good anymore.

Great news.. Finally they can get DDG head out of his ass. If not Dean will take his spot.

This deal sums up the incompetence of the United board . 120k a week for a player yet to make a senior appearance for us while we struggle to strengthen in the areas we really need .
The wages our club pay is embarrassing Mata , Lingard, De Gea , Shaw , Jones , Smalling , Matic and many more are all on crazy money which no other European club would pay . No wonder we can't rid ourselves of some squad players

Experience that won't help Henderson one bit the first time he steps out at Old Trafford is number one choice with the eyes of the World on him.

Kovar is taller, better at coming for crosses, and far superior with the ball at his feet.
What a ridiculous post. Of course experience this season at playing in every stadium in the PL (except OT) will help him.

Henderson has been playing well and been No 1 for Sheff Utd for 2 seasons and has an England call up.

Kovar may be a big talent, but he has proved nothing whilst Henderson has been doing it on the PL where it matters.

I'm sure de Gea is sweating right now, wiping his forehead with that £300k a week he earns.
True, but the damage from that huge contract is done. At least with this move there's a chance De Gea can be dropped if he makes anymore poor mistakes. Romero was never going to get a chance as number one, for better or for worse, but hopefully that won't be the case with Hernderson.

We're not selling DDG now with Romero's contract expiring in June 2021. Just depends on how DDG reacts to the challenge after this year. If Henderson does a good enough job and show's he can do it for a full season, fine. But DDG is still on the books and it's up to him to settle as the number 2 and come in when needed, or he forces a move away...which forces United to find a capable and experienced back up.

Leaving on a free isn't an issue, it's just the wages and how could those wages be reallocated elsewhere in the playing squad.

120K sounds like a lot, but so glad we've tied him down. Only time will tell whether Henderson will be good enough to be our number one, but this contract suggests he'll certainly be given a chance to do so. My prediction is that by the end of the 20/21 season, he'll be our starting GK.

P.S. His tweet gave me goosebumps.

Either Henderson jars de gea into serious form in which case he keeps his spot, or he doesn't and Henderson takes his place. They're teammates and competitors now, and Henderson will privately know he has time on his side

The club is run so badly it’s a shame. I’m happy we’ve locked him down. But 6 years and stupid wages? If he turns out crap we are stuck with him.

If we hadn't he'd be in London right now. Always a gamble with players. Maybe he'll suck, maybe he'll be legendary.

Why we keep giving ridiculous wages to players? 120k for (at this moment) only backup keeper.

Well let's hope if/when he steps in to be our goalkeeper that he's actually good enough. Huge gap from performing well for Sheffield and being the goalkeeper for Man United. He's on big wages now with never having played a game of football for the club, which is a bit of a risky precedent but I guess we had to do what we had to do.

How so? He still had two(?) years left on his contract.
Exactly, so it's the perfect time to either extend or sell. Keeping him another year to see how he does, potentially against his will, is risky. There was a lot of interest in him too (Chelsea most notably).

I choose to believe wages are signed off by Woodward.

So I’m unsurprised at the sheer stupidity of paying a no2 £120k a week.

Both our keepers are now unsellable.

Weird to have 2 keepers on a combined wage of 400k+. That’s poor upper management.
500k actually. 375 for De Gea, and 120k for Deano.
I believe he will be the second most paid keeper in the league (or third, if Kepa earns more).

United need their heads checked. Total idiots on overpaying players. Every club has some players that they overpay, but we fecking overpay Jones and Rojo too, let alone others.

I meant after 12 months assuming he replaces de gea as number 1. If he did and benched de gea, we could def expect him to want an increase.

If these wages are correct then why the feck would you just not sell De Gea now? Keep Romero as the number 2.

That wouldn't be what I think is the right thing but paying 120k for a number 2 is a joke.

Strange feelings about this. If you have 2 top class keepers one or both of them are invevitably gonna be pissed off next season. If one starts consistently the other is going to be fecked before the World Cup. If both start a similar number of games then both will probably be pissed off because keepers need to play every game. Either way it’s not a sustainable situation like it would be with 2 outfield players competing for a position. To me it means that most likely DDG is gone either this window or next, as a 23 year old future England number 1 will be worth more to the club as an overall asset.
Dave is nothing short of a legend at this club though and even with his drop in form it would be so painful to see him go.

Oh he'll definitely play in all the cups... Still a lot of money just to be doing that.

It's a huge gamble by the club. Hopefully it pays off.
De Gea will start in Champions. Deano probably in domestic cups and group stages in Champions, but I do not see Ole rotating the keepers in KO stage. Whoever is the first keeper (which obviously is going to be De Gea) is gonna start both in the league and KO of UCL.

Great news,very happy with this:cool:
All the complaining about the wages, you would think fans are paying Henderson out of their own pockets.
I fully trust the coaches and the club on this.

Some people here are truly miserable gits.

We've secured a talented young English keeper who our rivals were sniffing around.

We now have 2 players for 1 spot (no disrespect to Romero). Either Dean proves himself better than Dave and Dave gets benched or Dave ups his game to keep ahead of a very good player.

Either way in theory we get better performances in goal, and soon one of them will have to leave.
