With how smooth this has apparently gone according to reports, it proves we can apparently do it, so why do we seemingly balls up most other transfers? Mind boggling club. Still very happy about this and to finally see some activity!

Difference is Ajax are generally great to work with in transfers. If a player wants to leave they don't kick up a media fuss and just get on with it. Might be having Van der sar as director helps too.

They've not covered themselves in glory during this saga at all. Even when there were times when clubs were trying to sign players we didn't want to sell, like Ronaldo and De Gea, there still wasn't anywhere near this sort of obvious obstruction that Dortmund seem to be engaging it. From start to finish this has just come across as them trying to make a statement of some sort by making this as difficult as possible. Very small time.
Absolutely. Quite ridiculous.

This is a purchase that I have a very hard time understanding and therefore enjoy. When Fred and McTominay played together over a long period of time, they became really good together. I think we're pretty strong in the central midfield already. Therefore, I do not see that we are getting stronger with this purchase. McTominay should be in our starting 11 along with Pogba and Bruno. Fred and Matic are the alternatives to the central midfield, if I could decide. So I do not see that we have a need for Donny van de Beek.
I think you're vastly overrating McTominay. There are still question marks over Fred too.

How do we think we will use him? Could he relieve some of Matic's and Bruno's games?

Also IF we get him (knowing us I'll only believe it when we officially post it) will he have to self isolate when he arrives or will he be able to link up with the squad straight away?
That’s my question? Will be start instead of Matić potentially? Or will he exclusively fill in for Pogba and Bruno?

Does this mean Fred might be off? I do like Fred.

Great great player. I like him since i saw him play against Juve and Real M and i remmember i say to my friend that I would replace Pogba with Donny, now we have both + Bruno. Cant wait to see him play for United.

From Jesse and Pereira to Bruno and Donny. Our midfield now is the best since Fergie's when we have Carrick, Fletch, Hargreaves, Scholes etc. Ole can rest Bruno Pogba and Matic and play Fred Scot and Donny before CL in midweak and our midfield still be very strong.

I'm not sure if this is a compliment or an insult but what I'm seeing here is, basically, a Cleverley/Fletcher hybrid.
Lets just hope he leans to more of a fletcher. Maybe we need more players that dont struggle with the basics.

Maybe take a night off? This isnt the deal to be hating on Ed
This is how he continues to get away with making a mockery of our club. Can we hate him in a couple of months when our team continues to lag behind our competitors?

A lot flaming easier than Dortmund. Adding more class to our squad, good age and good price.

Where does he play?
He started off as a defensive midfielder, but he's slowly advanced higher up the pitch (first as a box-to-box midfielder and then as an attacking one). He's had his best performances as either an advanced B2B or attacking midfielder.

Basically, he can play all over the midfield, and he can also play as a right midfielder (key being midfielder, not winger) if need be.

Great to see this looks done. £40m is a relatively fair price (maybe about £5m too much but not like that's a disaster). We probably have more pressing positions to fix still but in terms of getting that all-round midfielder to add depth van de Beek is a great choice.

We cant complain if hes landing our targets? Theres few players we are missing out on these days.

All it took was one signing for Woodward acolytes to come crawling out.
Seriously lad. Woodward isn’t a saint and I criticise him and judge as much as the next guy but we made a transfer in line with our current transfer policy. Young, talented player and we’ve not overspent. Just be happy that we’re doing somewhat okay.

40M, wow. Isnt this the high time we go after our target with full stream as we may not get his kind of chance once this covid thing settles down

I know we are also impacted with Covid but hope Glazers can arrange some money on loan atleast to add another 2/3 players this year.

Glazers minted money all these years so cant they take something out of their pockets this season and dont spend a lot in next few years to balance it?

£40 includes some bonus. Upfront fee would be much less

I think for those who think we don't 'need' VDB, consider that first game of the season Pereira and Lingard both started. Now with the Bruno and VDB signings, at least one of those wouldn't even get in our 2nd X1.

Basically, unless we get a few injuries (which is always possible) there might be a maximum of 1 of Mata, Lingard and Pereira just making the bench and if you also get a Sancho (or cheaper alternative), then none of them make the matchday squad. That on its own is a big step forward from just one year ago.

We can complain while the biggest club in Britain continues to underperform under his tenure. Signing the occasional player we need is the bare minimum required. But no, he couldn’t be doing better, break out the champagne because he finally signed one player. Here’s to 7 more years.

The Glazers have already taken money out of a line of credit to cover the missing matchday income for the upcoming season. I doubt that we'd pay 40 million up front to get van de Beek, anyways. We'd have broken the payments down so that we stil have enough cash to put up front for a bigger transfer or for more signings.

Anyone pointed out that Steve Bartram started following him on Twitter? That's usually the sign of a done deal.

This is the point I’m making. Why should he be congratulated for it? It’s his fecking job. Ajax set a reasonable fee and we’re paying it.

Really good stuff, and hopefully will mitigate the drop in quality when Bruno/Pogba don't play. Ideally he challenges for a starting 11 spot.

I don't know how some of you miserable fans can look at this signing as a bad thing!
