Since appointing Ole as interim manager, I don't think Woodward has done much wrong. People point to wasted time for Maguire or not getting Bruno in the summer but we don't know the ins and outs of that, we just always believe whatever the worst news report is. To me, he's hired a manager that understands the club and has so far made far more astute signings for Manchester United than he did in the previous years, all while keeping up with his usual commercial savvy. I am unhappy with what he's done since SAF left but I am willing to give him this second chance.

Super happy with Donny. He'll be one of our players of the season next year and we'll love him like Bruno. That's my guess.
Aside from Mourinho's final window, Woodward has done nothing wrong by any manager he appointed. The managers themselves fcuked up by not delivering as they promised, and in hindsight, chose too many duds.
Woodward's only massive mistake was not appointing a DoF after Moyes. If he had done so, and that DoF was still around, at leats we'd have a coherent squad and playing style.

Looks good and obviously positives are
1 has the Ajax possession based culture
2 is versatile and can play either just in front of a back four or in place of Pogba thereby challenging Pogba or at least releasing Pogba further forward if bruno needs a rest
3 comes at a decent price

negatives are
1 does this make us less likely to get Grealish who is more premier league ready made and looks more creative
2 will need time to settle in

overall I’m pleased but I wonder how we are getting a player of serious value at 40 mill and we have glaring gaps to fill in other positions

still - he does look good

Always find it reassuring when I hear rival fans say things like this, let’s me know we’re not just being muppets for no reason.
No, he's a good signing, sooner or later he had to go to a big team. There is always the unknown coming from a small league.
He's a modern player, and I think you needed something in midfield.
Fair play. Nice to read some positivity. Are you also happy he didn't end up at Barca like initially reported?
Of course, I think the rumor about Barça didn't have much weight but of all the names that came out (some that I don't even remember) he seemed the player with the most future

But he doesn't choose the players we sign? We arent where we are because Ed is choosing Maguire over Laporte. Thats not his job
Was it not two years ago he was telling anyone who’d listen that Maguire wasn’t good enough? Bruno last summer as well. It’s his job to sign the players his manager wants. Every one who has worked for him bar Solskjaer has said he failed to do that.

Yes people can be happy. Never said or intimated they couldn’t. It will take a lot more than that for me to start applauding Ed Woodward for doing the bare minimum though. That’s all I’ve said. Before Woodward I don’t think our CEO would even have been mentioned when we signed players. Probably because it wasn’t a big fecking shock that we achieved what every club in football achieves from time to time.
We achieved all those things because of the manager we had and the finances available back then aren't at the same levels they are now. All the other teams in the league can't be bullied into selling their players and have a lot of TV money. Ed, whilst he has his faults, can only piss with the cock he's got. The glazers have withdrew a lot of money from the club over the last 10 years which is the main reason why our finances are in trouble.

Last season we got maguire awb and then Bruno in January, still people say Ed is doing the bare minimum. Lvg was here and got the full backing from Ed and spent an absolute fortune and look where it got us. We have been more frugal in our dealings but they are calculated risks and have been working out for us a lot better than any others after Fergie left.

IF we get him, can he link up with the squad straight away or will he have to self isolate first?

Put your agenda away. Pogba doesn't need a kick up the backside & VdB will obviously be rotated in multiple positions.
No agenda. Pogba plays at a decent level but not at the level of his ability. At his best, he's unstoppable, and he needs to be that again.

His level right now is something that a player like VDB can match more consistently.
I like Pogba, but his currently form isn't really that of an undroppable player, and he I want to see him playing at the levels he's capable of.

Because summer before that we invested in two CB. I think refusal to sign CB was correct and Mourinho went mental post that. In hindsight it looks bad but at that time it felt as correct decision

Clearly this is the way to go. We need to stop being fleeced by the British market. There's value out there to be had. Well done Woody and Ole. Welcome de Beek!

Has a touch of the Alan Smiths about him, adds a bit of steel and something a bit different to our midfield. Good luck to him.

We got Bruno five months later than we should have. We got lucky that it didn’t cost us.

I will use this example next time idiots from our fanbase attack Woodward because they dont think he can negotiate.

Excerpt from behind paywall:
Van de Beek, 23, has agreed the outline of a deal to join the Spanish giants for €55 million (about £49 million) but the financial crisis in La Liga caused by Covid-19 has left him uncertain whether Real can execute the transfer this summer, creating an opportunity United are considering exploiting. Having looked into signing Van de Beek last August, United are now seriously examining him as a target again — though Woodward may look to try to secure a deal at closer to the £36 million mark.

Probably the least important to position to strengthen, but I'm always delighted to see new players.
I will remember that comment, the first time Pogba/Bruno get injured or suspended.

I would say goalkeeper is the least important position to strengthen :)

Is this "PL ready" myth still alive? Good players don't need to be PL ready to be good immediately like it's been proved that countless times.

So......he's a panic buy?

Eredevise regulars, is this guy any good? He looked good in the CL but then Tadic looked like a bloody champion. I've only seen him compared to Siem De Jong and Davey Klassen.

From what I remember, he was an alright backup wasn't he?

If not, our success rate has just dropped 25%.
For the price - £500.000 at a time when the transfer record in the P.L was £15 million - v.d Gouw was absolutely a success. He played a total of 60 matches and was extremely reliable. He wasn't world-class but he never let us down. A very good back-up keeper to have for 6 years.
