Gotta say after watching this documentary and the city one. You can clearly see the differences between mou and pep and why players fall in love with mou. Engaging character. That talk he had with dele was great.

20 minutes in and Poch is sacked. No insight into that at all is very disappointing. There could have been so many interesting angles they could have taken and they chose skip and gloss over.

Yeah, I’ve only watched the first episode so far but it did a good hatchet job of making Poch look like a useless, miserable has-been who we should completely forget about ever bringing to Old Trafford.

This cheerful and charismatic fella they replaced him with, though. I’d love to have him as our manager!

I reckon when Jose got the job they decided a lot of the best material was yet to come
It's interesting as a Mourinho character study separately but not exactly an accurate account of the season for a Spurs All or Nothing that they completely gloss over the biggest moment of the season, a missed opportunity. But Mourinho is a big enough character to carry it, just brings it a different way. I don't really learn a lot that I didn't know from Mourinho, confirming what I thought, whereas you really could have learned a lot from Poch if they broadcast him under pressure in his last few weeks. Instead nothing on it.

Poor Pochettino. Takes them within 90 minutes of becoming European Champions and is rewarded with only slightly more focus than Dele Alli's toothbrushing escapades.

Mourinho meeting with Kane was funny. Kane saying he wants to be like Messi and Ronaldo and Mourinho can give him that and the funniest part was Spurs has better players around him compared to United.

I’m biased as I am a big admirer of Mourinho and remain convinced that he would have led us much closer to a title had Woodward backed him in final summer window. Mourinho exudes box office Charisma, per less experience and amazing people skills. Bet he would have loved Vertogan and Toby as his CBs at United.

We can safely assume this spurs team is an image of Pochettino which convinced me even more that he is not suited as a United manager. The team he left behind was so lacking in leadership and winning mentality, it required Mourinho to immediately request them to be bigger cnuts on the pitch.

Kane has very little personality, surprised he is also England captain, but Spurs are totally dependent on his goals. I always thought Deli Ali was a twat, but he comes across really well, articulate, well mannered and a very good guy, and also a very lazy trainer ... but SAF would have loved him. Son is just a very classy guy and I’d have loved him at United too.

Really wish they did a series with OGS at United next season. Would be a global blockbuster.

The biggest thing I've taken away from the first 3 episodes, is that we should've put cameras on Jose and told him we were filming a documentary.

The trailer looks pretty cringe worthy.

I certainly won't forget about how much of a cnut Mourinho was when he was here. Utter toxic person he turned into.

I used to love the fella but not anymore, that charisma doesn't fool me.

My gosh, that really struck me. His pre-match talks were so cringe. Terribly underwhelming and uninspiring. He actually looked like he was shitting himself when talking. Certainly didn’t come across as a leader.

Also, when Jose was talking indirectly about Aurier a number of times.....Aurier couldn’t have been any more “give a shit” attitude than he was. Literally like talking to a Chinese man in English with a Newcastle accent.
Yep, Kane comes across as an absolute "yes man" and not very inspirational to say the least. He's got the personality of an extremely boring house brick!

I actually agree with you but Amazon would have looked at it from a purely entertainment perspective so I can understand why they’ve made the decision

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.

Second episode observations:

- Kane's pre-match pep talks are terrible. Seriously, get someone else to do them. Anyone would be better than him - he sounds like a caveman trying to speak modern English from watching repeated episodes of Eastenders.
- Dele Alli is as annoying in person as he is on the pitch. You can tell he didn't take much in from his meeting with Jose.
- Speaking of Mourinho, the guy simply oozes class. A great person, despite what the media has you believe. That moment with the ball boy was a wonderful touch.
- Eric Dier isn't a very good actor.

Whenever I see Jose I can’t help but wish it worked out for him here.

Also agree Dele didn’t give a hoot when chatting with Jose.

The best bit so far is when the dramatic brass music reaches a crescendo as a graphics display highlights a leap from 8th to 7th following a win at home to Burnley.

Joking aside, good series. Thought there would be more schadenfreude but that'll come in the next batch.

So why’s Tom Hardy the narrator?

Also could they have given Kane subtitles?

Don’t really get the people praising Jose here. I’ve watched 2 eps so far and it just confirms what I already thought that he’s really just full of cliches and trying to be old school but ultimately has lost his touch at the top level. Kane also seems like a bit of an idiot and Dele is a child still.

Yeah I wish we would see a little more of Jose’s tactical side, because you’re right it’s a lot of cliche motivational speeches we’re seeing.

Didnt see it that way .... his performances also improved dramatically after that.

Never would I want to see that. These kind of series documentaries are fun to laugh at other teams.

The Liverpool one was the shits and hilarious to poke fun at Liverpool.

Same with spurs. Never want to see United becoming a joke like this.

Quite entertaining, but just like the City one this really shouldn't be labeled a documentary if the club can just cut out any negative events.

Yeah - ours would be an embarrassment when the full scale of our noodle department was revealed.

Do you think? He looked like he had a face of bemusement as he walked out the office to me, but you’re right he did play better for a few weeks.

I'd agree, he's undoubtedly still a funny and charismatic guy, but I think you can very quickly see how he can alienate players. A good watch but I'm not watching this thinking what if we kept him, he could have done something special.

It's only entertaining because we all know they end up failing miserably. Dele and Son are two absolute babies. You could put them into 14y olds bodies and you wouldn't see anything wrong. Every time Kane opens his mouth is comedy gold. Basic cliches in a constipated voice

Glad he is their problem now. Absolute cringe comedy this. Bit of The Office vibe watching this. All the success is down to him and the fault lies with others not a great quality for leaders really.

If anything, I walked away feeling a bit underwhelmed re: Jose. Some observations from the 3 episodes -
  • For the stature, fees and trophy cabinet that Jose has, I expected more than the equivalent of "We can do this"/"We are better than this" chants from him. This is what I expect a school coach to be doing, but I am waking up to the reality that is literally the standard in top-tier professional sports too (since Pep spent a lot of time motivating in cliches too)
  • I also found it odd that his advice was often focused on outcomes/generic truisms and didn't focus on as much the process or how that player was supposed to achieve that outcome
    • "go in for 50/50s and win"
    • "don't be nice"
    • "have belief/confidence"
    • "Pass quickly in the slot"
    • When loosing at half time: "The game is alive even the 80th-85th minute", "1 goal can change it"
    • When winning at half time: "Three points aren't in the bag yet, don't loose focus"
  • It is easy to see why he may blame players for not putting in their best effort, for from his perspective he's shared the recipe for success (however vague it may be) and its the players not following it to the tee
  • Tactics discussion was limited thus far, and hopefully they'll shed light on that in the next few episodes. I suppose that's where he earns his bread.
  • The role of a coach seems to be overstated with respect to individual training. It seems that they're more psychologists than trainers, and are constantly trying to motivate the team/individuals by looking for something that makes them tick.
  • Spurs has a retirement home kind of vibe to it - with everyone content and quiet, and players showing up to do a day job with as such excitement, that it may as well have been accounting
  • Levy is someone you could have a beer with (Although, the same was said about George W. Bush too)

There was one with Brendon Rogers. His first season with Liverpool I think. It was hilarious.

Him threatening Sterling that he will be in the first plane back for something sterling did during training, his pep talk before the first game, his huge portrait at his house. All ridiculous and funny.

Funny how similar it all is to any other organisation behind the scenes. It almost gets built up and put on to an unrealistically glamorous pedestal. Find it quite amusing watching a bunch of millionaire 20-odd year olds eating in a canteen, for some reason

Eventhough I agree Mou has lost his crown, he's not as simplistic as the documentary makes it seem. They have to cut out almost all parts regarding strategy or tactics apart from "play hard" "win 2nd balls" "pass hard" etc

Yeh I noticed that and felt it was probably part of the whole deal to make sure certain tactics weren't disclosed
