we've wasted our entire 'summer' on a dead parrot deal. We now have a week to find alternatives from clubs who will know we are desperate. Most likely our summer business is done and we should just crack on with the fight for 4th, 5th, 6th with Arsenal, Wolves and Spurs
Same shit every year.

If each post here was a seat in a stadium, this thread would be the 11th biggest stadium for the 20/21 Premier League season.

Just a mere thousand away from Goodison Park at 10th.

Just one of the many, many Bundesliga patrons that bestow this forum with their passive aggressive jibes and keen analysis.
They are relentless too. They comment on United fans but come across way more entitled than us

I agree. Let's not buy anyone. Our squad is as good as the other usual suspects fighting for the title already.

Sack Ole, the flawed, smelly bastard. Haha, he even needs great players to hide his flaws.
I mean, look at Guardiola, Klopp and Pochettino! Managers without flaws, who don't even need world class talent to challenge.

:houllier: :houllier: :houllier:
I do understand the need for talent to win anything, but apart from saying Aguero at City and Alisson with the scousers, were any of the other signings they made really world-class at the time? Ole is doing a good job right now, but you can't just say those managers are just working with world-class talent.

All the players they signed were attainable for United too, it's just we decided instead of scouting talent, we'll just go for big-name signings. Liverpool tapped up Van Djik enough that he would not sign for anyone else, and they waited a year to sign him. I wonder if United have done enough with Sancho so he does not sign for anyone other than United if we have to wait till next summer.

Oh noes. What would we ever do without them VAR cheat codes? Relegation beckons (unless we get Sancho out of it of course).
To be fair the FA need to have a look at the rules and look to modify them. It’s not fair that the refs keep awarding us penalties. It’s unfair competition on the rest of the league. They need to just get rid of penalties for any fouls on players inside the box. Having quick feet and being too good for defenders is not a valid reason to get a penalty. It’s a disgrace and it needs to stop.

Not to say that we won't get him but it's always funny to me when it goes like this in this thread:

German outlets - "Dortmund is adamant they won't entertain any bids for Jadon Sancho"

Redcafe - "They're so desperate to sell"

If you don't draw the same conclusion from that then God help you.

KDB was very, very expensive indeed, and was close to as hyped as Sancho is right now after that monster season at Wolfsburg. David Silva was very much world class when they signed him. Yaya was good. Many, many clubs were in for Otamendi. Sterling was a world class talent for sure. Bravo was good before he turned shit. Walker cost a lot because he was the best english left back around at the time. Mendy had all the potential to be a world great attacking left back. Gündogan. Sané. Mahrez. Bernardo Silva. The list goes on, and on, and on.

No, they weren't all world class at the time of the signing, but most/all of them were close to world class, or had world class potential. None of the names mentioned were punts or hidden gems. They were as close to a sure thing as you can come in football.

Liverpool is a good point I guess, but Alisson, Fabinho, Van Dijk. All expensive, world class signings who transformed their side. Just because Van Dijk played for Southampton doesn't mean he wasn't a world class player! Arguments can be made that Keïta was a world class talent as well. Half of europe wanted to sign him.

I agree that not every player you buy has to be a world class talent. But they do have to be better than the players you are replacing. Which is why we have signed Donny, for example. And both City and Liverpool have made some horrible signings as well. But they've spent a lot on the players that seem like a sure thing. Big name signings, call it whatever you want. Even Salah was an instant upgrade for Liverpool, and (almost) everybody knew that even at the time. Just becuase he flopped at Chelsea doesn't mean he was a hidden gem or anything like that.

Yes. KDB, Sterling, Van Dijk etc were all world-class. To compete with world-class teams over the course of a long season you need world-class players.

Every player you mentioned looked a great player with potential, but world-class at the time of signing? I think our understanding of world-class is worlds apart. I'm talking about signing players like Bastian and Di Maria (at the time)

Anyway, when Van Djik was at Southampton, I rated him very highly, actually even when he was at Celtic. Argued with a guy on here who said Lindelof was a much better player. His argument was that LVG did not even pick him for the Dutch national team!

De Bruyne was class even at Wolsfburg, but he was attainable for United as well.

I'm so happy the transfer window closes in a few weeks. By then we'll at least know if we have this wrapped up or can go back to despising the Glazers/Woodward and buckle up for a shiteshow next season.

Happy Friday all.

Has anyone ever argued that Bastian was a world class signing? :houllier: Since he is a player you use to prove your point, I agree we have very different understandings of world-class.

And yes. De Bruyne was as world class when City signed him as Sancho is now. And sure, we could've tried to sign him. Who knows, maybe we even did? What does that have to do with anything? Just becuase we could've been in for him, or any other world class player out there, doesn't mean we would've automatically got them, does it? Almost any player in the world has been attainable for Manchester United through the past 30 years. The problem is that a) not all players want to come here, b) some clubs bid more money or give bigger salaries, or c) they believe it's a better career move to go elsewhere, d) we chose other players we believed were better signings at the time.

I really don't get your point, mate. City and Liverpool have signed both world class players, world class talents, and players that fit their system perfectly. Arguing they haven't is a weird hill to die on.

Another one of these posts  you're free to not post in this thread, much like others have no problem doing so. Why it seems to bother people so much truly baffles me, the most baffling thing about this thread for me, has been all summer.
The reason why i posted what I posted is because people are getting excited about a deal that isn't going to happen. People shouldn't make fools of themselves by saying 'Sancho will sign for Man United any day now' when it is clear the opposite is true.

If you really think people saying 'Sancho isn't going this summer' is the most baffling thing about this thread all summer then I'm embarrassed for you.

It’s amazing that we’re nearly at 1000 pages considering how little of substance has actually happened. The power of muppetry.

Making fools of themselves by talking up a football transfer on an internet forum? pretty sure its pretty easy thing to get over and move on from.

Clear the opposite is true  you just made the list.

Actually, the first post was in Feb 2019 which is about 18 months. From discussing the possibility of signing someone, 3 transfer windows later we are very close to signing him.

So clearly there is substance to this. How little has happened? We have gone from being a club that then was in a rocky mood, doubt over the light at the end of the tunnel to now where we are close to signing him and potentially challenging the top 2. Alot has happened.
